  1. I'm trolling crystal clear water so I always have 100-150 feet out currently.... And with a bait that gets 15 feet dive on its own should gain at least 10 feet with 4-5 colors (same distance back I fish now) of core out... And what surprised me is that I found an article stating that Leadcore was designed for river fishing... Look it up... Lots of articles about how great it works... I understand there will be frustrations but I think there are applications where it will work well...
  2. Here some pics of what I picked up... I think I'm pretty good now...
  3. If it's the one I'm thinking of the guy that made/distributed them died a few years back... Some guys I know bought up everything they could find...
  4. Also got yum Houdini fry.... They look really nice... http://www.lurenet.com/brands/yum-baits/yum-f2-houdini-fry
  5. Does it look like a worm with a ball on the tail...? I used those before... Called "YZ" if I remember right
  6. Well Found some Lindy watzit grubs... My usual 2.5" gulp minnows... Some tubes and tube heads.... Berkley ripple shads... All at SAIL... And a few colors (clear/silver flake... Pink... And a blue/green) of fin s minnows at another little shop I know in Ottawa... And on the note of those special lunker city jig heads... Northland makes a similar design... Got some to try... Picked up 1/16 and 1/8... They have 2 cones on the collar... Look good http://www.northlandtackle.com/Category/main.taf?cat=657
  7. Perfect... Now I'm watching "Crappie Kings" Talk about getting me pumped for ice out
  8. Thanks everyone Headed to to Ottawa tomorrow with the wife and hoping to get a few packs of plastics....
  9. Nice Don't forget about us down here on the St Lawrence...
  10. I use a USA address so no tax at all and no duty at custome if I keep it under $100
  11. I do my own... Usually best to keep it simple tho... 90% of the time my blades are gold... Silver... Or chartreuse in low light.. I use the changeable clevises... They're great... Never change my rig until my hook dulls... And chartreuse beads 99% of the time... I've tried others but they don't work as well... I find it's more important to change blade size and color then beads... Also I only use Colorado blades.... I get everything I need at cabelas.com Your also better off biting a lot of beads, clevises and blades in one shot... $100 would get you enough components for plenty if years to come if you recycle parts.... Then you have plenty of options to play around with.. Another tip... I use 20lb minimum... Usually 40lb flouro... Haven't seen negative effects... Oh yeah... And you can sell a few to recoup your shipping costs...
  12. Kinda makes it hard to find a new spot with 30+ miles of river and creeks/tribs... Lol One thing going for me is they seem to hit the creeks and hold in back bays.... I just have to find more creeks with back bays/canals
  13. Wow... $1400 with no background art... That's getting expensive... My dad got a 54" done with driftwood and rock/sand lake bottom etc... for $1000... But that was 20 years ago...
  14. So from the sounds of it if I'm not catching I most likely need to move around more then switch baits... I only know a few areas that hold crappie and they're pretty well known in this area (shore spots)... I really want to try to find a new area I can target by boat and get some privacy...
  15. Good day So with the ice finally melting I've got 2 fish on the brain... Carp and CRAPPIE... So far my best results for crappie have been with 2.5" gulp minnows in natural colors on a small jig head under a float.. But I'm wondering what you guys like for spring crappies... I like my gulp but I'm looking for some other options... Gulp isn't very durable... I'm looking to get more into panfish for my son (3yrs old)... He's not really big enough for carpin yet... Thanks Mike
  16. Nice when effort pays off.... It's almost ice breaking time here...
  17. Unless we get some serious heat most species will be spawning on their opener... Heck... Even last year the walleye and musky had a late spawn...
  18. Are you looking to " get away from it all" somewhere remote? Or something with power and water with something close by for the girlfriend if she gets bored...? If it's option 2 then the long sault parkway is good... Little further then 3 hours... I think 4-4.5 hours if I remember right...Lots of on the water campsites... Good fishing... On the st lawrence river... 45 minutes from Ottawa and about an hour to Montreal if the lady wants to go shopping...
  19. I'm under the mindset you wanna buy products that don't need repairs.... In the last 10 years I've broke 1 rod... That's it... My fault... St croix replaced the $200 rod for $30... I've only had 1 reel fail in 10 years... And that was user error.... I have lots of reels I've used hard for years with no issues... I don't buy any high end stuff with the mindset that if it does fail I can just replace it... Spinning reels I use are under $50 no problems... And bait casters and line counters diawa have been great...
  20. Also part time helps eliminate overtime... Just give part time more hours instead....
