Back when I like taking nice tournament bass anglers hard earned cash with nothing more the 1 to 5 anchors and the rules wrote just right and with very little effort control and 1000 ft square and fish every square inch....................I'm tired it's not rocket science and it's like throwing a Mars bar in Kindergarten class some body will pick it up. Back 25 years ago when I trout fish 16hrs x 365 (had to work 8hrs) some days, roe bags to match what I was going to fish today and tomorrow was all I though about. Now that I'm not that intense I tie 3-5 dsize 3-5 nicsize 3-5 qsize and maybe 2 golf ball with Blackbird floaters just in case I pier fish in the next week or 2. So I'm sort of ready for just about anything and some were in that mess I call a trout vest is a small kit Spider Thread bag tie maybe 15 squares Blackbird spawn net and a very little bag of spawn floaters (looks just like some that e lee gale product) really just colored Styrofoam from my younger days "maybe I should check" The point is just be ready for 70-80% and make it work if you need something else worms flyes micro crank. Or just obsessive! not me Garnet

Anchoring is not rocket science. There are whole books for high end walleye anglers that talk about nothing but anchoring technique. So just generally never cut a rope if it's 300 ft you might need it someday if it's 15 ft throw it away and get a real rope. A piece of chain to almost any anchor will change every thing for the better and that 300ft rope tied to the chain. Some times you need 3ft of chain then you need 12ft. Most boaters will never need anything more than just standard. Big hunk of anchor something you can lift easy but not throw and 100 or2 of rope. Garnet

You can use the product that makes you happy! Why would I throw out perfectly good line? The Short answer would be it's Junk and at $3/1500ft that's about 40 cents! You are lucky just last week I changed 3 spinning reels from 20 lb Spider Thread Braid to 8lb for perch'n. All these reels were set up in this manner and in the last 4 years have been re spool 15 -20 times. You do understand that if the line you take off is the same dia. as the line you put on that you will put the same amount back on! In this case 8 lb is thinner than 20 and I had 3 reels to do from a 125yrds spool my # is 40 pulls so the math is 125 * 3= 375ft 40 pulls would be 120 ft so I have 15 ft. You do under stand your # would be 65 pulls. I just check and about 4.5ft of wasted line. I am not going to tell how many rods and reels I have lets just say everyday this month and most of next month changing everyday is possible. More important I can take any reel and spool the braid to another reel and of all miracles that reel will be perfectly full and perform at it's best. I do have some specialty rods and reels like my line counter dipsey reel that has 300yrds of inferior 30lb braid and cheap backing of same dia. mono. Guess what no trips to CT just a quick strip buy a 300yrd spool and it will be perfectly full with no waste. OPPS sorry Spider Thread Braid is available at some CT. Garnet And from my experience Jumbo Mr Frenzies in lime or white are great dry fuzzy pounding headache days. You can try any color.

Spider Thread has no wax but is the same dia. so more spectra. This is why it lays on the spool much nicer and is way better for spool lock. Lets not make this to technical spool lock is when the line wraps in the spool and you lose rod reel and musky bait. Garnet

Yep run down to CT buy a fishing line spooling setup about $1000.00 you know like the one in BASS PRO SHOP and you will be...................accurate Garnet
-
Yes you remove a certain amount of line 65yrds That's why you buy 15lb mono at $3 for 500yrds as you are using 50lb Spider Thread that's the dia. of 16lb. So the miracle you spool the Spider Thread and you use 65yrds. Garnet

This is a simple way to use all of your line on the amount of reels you have. You want 65 yards. Take the line in both hands, spread your hands 3 ft do this 65 times. yes open your bail or if a baitcaster press button I turn magnets up to stop backlash. Your $3 will buy 500yrds of MONO from WALLY WORLD (Wal Mart). Garnet
-
CT must like you. I buy that $3 for 500 yards of mono (Wally World) in the size Spider Thread Braid I'm using. Normally I buy reels in sets of 4 so spool all 4 make sure they work nice then open all 4 bails and 1 pull would be 3 ft =1 yard count to 65. Now take the good line and spool all 4 reels. Now if I ever re spool every reel is very close to the same amount of line and I've wasted nothing. For metric 1 meter is 3 inch longer than a yard so don't worry about it. Garnet

I kept buy right thru the down turn dividend paying stocks only. Stopped buying 2 weeks ago as the market is getting way ahead of it's self. Will tank before summer then rally thru the summer and tank large in the fall and thats when I will start buying again. Garnet

A little more on what and how you fish would help. Try Spider Thread Braid it's the latest technology in braids. Garnet

Hey Mark Just above that bridge is were I learned the fat guy can dance just one drift more drift and I can dance. The Salmon is a big river just break it down to your experience pick a spot that looks like Bowmanville or the credit most of the best fishing is right infront of you. After you get comfortable fire for the middle. Back in the middle 80's when I was going most rainbows were stocked and noticeably stupid as grass guess why I liked it. Don't go to the hatchery it just gives you nightmares. Garnet

Do a compression check on that 150 the general rule is no cylinder more than 10% different or get a mechanic to do it. No on water test......... RUN. Nitro is lower end boat. Check the trailer for cracked welds and repairs that means getting under it. Very stiff steering is bad cables. Grab the motor near prop in bounces up and down look at the steering bearings, check lower end oil some filings are normal chunks........ Run. That's just a start remember theirs lots of used boats. This is way back in the day. Access no problem New York State has right aways along the Salmon. You need cleats theirs a slime on the rocks that's worst than ice. Get the phone # for the hydro electric dam, it's a recording that tells you when the waters coming up. Do not make 1 exacter cast or you will learn tap dancing in waders and cleats. Go north from Pulaski to Port Ontario Hwy 3 and turn right Little Salmon is good fishing. Allways fall fished so I don't know about runs. The Black gets large walleye runs. Garnet
-
I use Redwing Sabre hook, basically make the hook 1/2 the size of roe bag. I put a little exacter bend in the hook and when you do this you find out how tough this hook is. You won't bend these hooks removing them from fish. Garnet

I quit this site 5 years ago because of the spam police. Every post was ripped if somebody mentioned a biz or a product. I'm interested that guide biz is thriving in Winsdor even with the local economy suffering, it also tells me that the fishier is doing good. Spam police are boring. Garnet

Mirocraft from the middle 70's were one of the highest quality aluminum boats, and made in Quebec. Don't no models anymore, they made a 12ft that was rated for a 35hp. just huge boat. Rented many 16ft mirro in Cessarea threw the 70's. They were sold many times and have been very low quality for years. If the price is right should be fine. Garnet

This is post 1 for me and the subject is something that I was very involved with. Those peak steelhead #'s came the years after the dam broke in Elizabethville and the wall of water flooded Port Hope. That year we had large snow fall and a flash thaw. All the creeks along the north shore were at flood stage for several weeks. So what happened, basically ever creek was a spawning bed from the mouth to the head waters and the recruitment was unbelievable for about 4 years then the silt started building back into the creeks and the spawning success declined. Over fishing was very targeted then only the Ganny, Wilmot had all year open season and were hit hard after opener. At the time I was very involved in Bowmanville Creek Anglers then Durham Region Anglers we also helped start Metro East Steelheaders and Credit River. The MNR really didn't know what they were dealing with and at the time and didn't think opening the rest of the creeks necessary. We were determined to but a fish ladder in Goodyear Dam and were blocked by "no suitable spawning between GoodYear and Vanstones". I used the MNR words to get all the creeks opened below the tracks on the northside of Lake Ontario. So I take some credit for getting lots of kids fishing Oshawa and the other more urban creeks. Those words were why the Goodyear Fish Ladder got installed, the new owner of Vanstone's got greedy holding water back and the dam was breached so we got the OK. It was a different time and anybody trying to do MNR work was not well received so a couple long hair 20 something fishing freaks set about getting $80,000 to build and install a fish ladder. Trust me we were scared to death. Theirs lots more we started the Atlantic program, Chinnooks were only stocked west of Duffy's we gather all the clubs east of Duffy's and blew the MNR reasons out the door. we had the Bowmanville boat ramp installed. So how will the peak runs return, this year had major potential large amount of snow but we have had a very slow thaw to date. Theirs still plenty snow in the bush so maybe. It was fun times and any ? my memory is fading so you better ask. Garnet
