I have a few trips planned this year and was interested in upgrading to a good map chip for my HDS. I've been looking at hot maps and was wondering what people think of them and what one you would recommend. Also open to other suggestions. I'd like one that has detailed contouring etc as I'm usually fishing blind in new lakes as of late! Thanks in advance.

Accessing the internet in cottage country (and rural areas)

I know a few people who are not happy with the Satellite service. Using a Rogers rocket stick with or without a cell repeater tower seems to be the best bet from what I've heard. -
Thanks for the replies folks I appreciate it. Splashhopper - what gives?

I'm finding the Kawarthas aren't being too kind to me this year so I was wondering if there are some natural lakes north of London that may be worth trying. 3-4hrs would be the most I'd prefer to drive, so wasn't sure if there are lakes and accomodations north or towards Owen sound that may be worth considering. Pike/Musky/Walleye would me the preference. Shoot me a PM if you prefer. cheers scugog

Need some help to choose the right trolling motor!!

Go with a 24V! I have one on my tinny and its awesome. I was in a 14ft tinny on the weekend with a 55lb and it didn't have that much juice. Electric steer to Terrova 80lb no contest......Cable steer go Maxuum or Fortrex. Personal preference. -
Just thought I'd chime in here as its been a few months since I started this thread. I went with the Sony TX5 with a $59.99 class10 memory card from Future shop and its been awesome! Really easy to use and takes nice pics. Super slim as well. Give this one a strong consideration if you want a great camera that happens to be really thin and water/shock/dustproof http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&productId=8198552921666122654

I hope you turned your lights off while you were fishing!

If you go to a craft store you should be able to pick up some "urine sample bottles". Never used of course! You know, the clear plastic jars with the yellow lids. They work very well.

Umm Merc gets Tohatsu to build all their small motors, so don't think there is a NA company around who has one anymore. So I'd say: Buy Japan!! (Suzuki, Honda, Yamaha).....I "think" Tohatsu and Nissan are there as well. Some might be made in China now. -
Need a smartphone (Rogers) - looking for good deal on plan

I had a Bold 9700 and I wasn't impressed with how it surfed the net. Otherwise great phone. -
I feel more comfortable with a baitcaster using jerk baits. Although I want to figure out how to get the feel of using a spinning rod for it. Consider a Loomis above or a St. Croix Avid series and up.

Wonder over to Gander Mountain and check out their "Guide Series" goretex rainwear. The last suit you will ever buy and it breathes unlike the cheap rubber ones. Cabelas high end stuff is really nice as well.

That seems reasonable...does that include voicemail and call display? Occasional trips to Peterborough and Northern Ontario are possible with me....so this reception thing has me wondering. Wonder if the new Iphone will be better reception? -
I'm finally going to break down and get modern with a smartphone. I need to be with Rogers(assume bundling services will save?), so I'm looking for a smartphone that is really good and fast for surfing the net and easy to type on. I've been eying up the new Iphone 4G but was wondering if there are other smartphones worth considering. had a top of the line Blackberry through work but found it sucked for surfing the net. Also wondering how I can ensure I get the best deal on a plan. Any suggestions would be appreciated Thanks!

Hard to beat a LT series rod. Nice setup!

It'd be interesting to see if life jackets were a factor here. I can't believe what people try to do with 12 and 14ft tinnys though. Regardless its a tragic and preventable loss.

Change the oil filter if it has one as well. Some of them are hidden.

Entry level consider an Epiphone or Yammy or a used Takamine.

I noticed a significant reduction in smoke when I switched to Amsoil. I totally understand trying to justify the extra $

I ran Amsoil HPI Injector oil in my 2 stroke and now run Synthetic in my 4 Stroke. Also use the Amsoil Synthetic Marine Gear Lube for the bottom ends, as well as the Marine grease. http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/hpi.aspx - 2 Stroke Injector http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/wcf.aspx - 4 Stroke 10W40 http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/agm.aspx - Gear Lube http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/gwr.aspx - Marine Grease

If I was buying I would also shop around for the best financing as well. Any boat dealer I've seen has ridiculous financing rates (8 to 12%). PLC or Home LC seems to be the best way if you're financing. If only they had 0% deals like the cars Maybe someone here knows an "in" to get a good rate somewhere.

That's great folks thanks for your input. As for Sleep Country, I find the sales folks a little pushy so have been turned off there a bit. However I'll drop back in its all who you get to talk to. Anyone else have experience with Tempur?
