I am so sorry I have wrecked OFC for you, I'll just go away and not post on here any more, would that make you happy?

Goose Bay, the river coming in from Fenelon, Hickory Beach, Emily Creek, are all good places to start for spring walleye. As for places to stay you could try Lunge Haven or stay at one of the motels in town and just dock your boat at one of the marinas. It's a bit of a pain to have to travel back and forth but there aren't a lot of places on Sturgeon lake to rent cabins. Good luck!

I post a fishing report "A perfect day", 11 replies. I post a fishing related topic "A trip of a life time", 28 replies. I post about "Kevin O'Leary declares", 82 replies. Then I get slammed for posting "political" threads and the funny thing is that the people that are complaining about the "political threads" aren't the ones commenting on the fishing related threads. I don't post to just "Stir the pot" as has been implied, when I post on here it's to either help someone or to learn something. Discussing things that are important to me fishing related or not is how I learn. I read all the replies, I learn from listening to other peoples point of views, I don't always agree with them but I learn from them. I've gone to other "fishing" sites in the past but post a question and wait a week and you might get one or two answers. Post a question on here on almost any topic and you'll often have a response within minutes, that's why I've been around here and that's why this site has been around for longer than any other fishing related site. Fishing is important to me but there is much more in life than just fishing so I'd like to suggest that if fishing is the only thing in your life that is important, go visit the "fishing only" sites. If you want to see more fishing related posts on this site then try posting or contributing to posts about fishing instead of whining about NF posts. And that folks is my $0.02 worth.

OMG we use to spend countless days doing that when we were kids. Never thought anyone but us did it

You don't turn thousands into hundreds of millions by making everyone happy! As far as ripping people off; I feel I'm getting ripped off every time I get a pay cheque and I look at what our government takes from me.

With a net worth of over $400,000,000.00 US and he started with a $10,000.00 investment from his mother? I'd say he's done something right!

Sorry but I would have at least two types of tip ups. For perch I like a 4# mono, 6# max. For pike and walleye I would use a 10# (for ice fishing).

Well, I think this just got interesting and Justin is going to have to get down to business or he'll be going back to teaching after the next election. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see the same sort of thing that happened in the US, happen here, people are just plane tired of politicians! At least Kevin can talk and he's got a proven track record when it comes to business.

Perhaps you have already tried this but: drag your cursor over the text you want to copy and highlight it; press "Ctrl" and c (together) Put your cursor where you want the text to go and press "Ctrl" and v (together). I do it all the time and it works ok for me.

Looking forward to it! Enjoy your trip

A little over a year ago I posted an open letter to our new Prime Minister on here, didn't include my email address or anything. Couple of weeks later I got an email from his office thanking me for my kind words. Big Brother is watching

My cross bow was chronographed at 381 FPS and had no trouble putting a bolt right through a deer, in fact one shot caught a rib going in, a rib going out, destroyed the knee and still stuck a good 6" into a hard packed field. Is it a bow or a gun? I'm leaning more to the gun side of things, to me a bow uses mechanical force to propel a projectile.

Well I've been waiting all fall for Tim Hale to get his ice huts out and last week I heard that he finally had huts on the perch grounds. John and I had talked and he was interested in getting out so I booked a hut for yesterday. I was pretty excited, John and I hadn't seen each other in a few years and I was looking forward to catching up. As the weekend progressed and the weather reports started calling for freezing rain, I started to worry that John might have trouble getting here, he had to come from Burlington. Right up until Monday afternoon it was sounding like this might get postponed, I had even let John know that there were no issues if he did have to cancel because the roads were too bad. Tuesday morning I was awake at 1:30 with a million things going through my head, how were the roads, would John be able to make it, did I have enough food, what was I forgetting.......... There was no way I could go back to sleep so I got up and started. I checked outside, nope no freezing rain yet, weather forecasts, road reports.... so far so good the storm was coming but so far no road closures (at least on major roads). About 5 am I get a text from John, he's on his way. It's only an hour drive for me but I'm not taking any chances so by 5:30 I have the last of my stuff in the car and I'm out the door. The roads here were clear and dry, I could see the moon through the light clouds, not a drop of rain in sight. By 6:15 I was sitting in McDs in Beaverton having a coffee. A quick call to John to see how he was doing and let him know to meet me there instead of at Tim's. Fast forward, we're out on the ice and in our hut by about 8:30 just about then the freezing rain started, no worries, we're warm and comfortable and between us we probably had enough food for a couple of days on the ice. The bite was non existent for probably the first hour and a half, I was starting to think this was going to be a day of fishing with very little catching involved. Didn't matter, John is always good company, we talked about life, family, jobs.... Then it happened, a bite! It started off slowly and seemed to come in waves but as the day progressed the size seemed to get bigger and the runs lasted longer, every time the bite died down we'd just reach for another cup of tea or a bite to eat and the fish would turn on again. Most of the fish seemed to be in about the 10" range, we did have a few smaller and quite a few bigger ones with a few real beauties thrown in. I really can't tell you how many we caught, best guess something around 150 but we didn't keep track. I brought home 23, John just came to have a good day on the ice. John thanks again for the wonderful company and a stellar day fishing, as promised as soon as Tim gets huts out on the trout/white fish grounds I'll give you a shout.

The $578.00 is OAS, I do get $600.00 a month in CPP (I took it early so I get 30% less than I could have). This new crap and trade tax that was supposed to only add $5.00 a month to the average heating bill; well my first propane bill was 20% higher then the previous one (on a cost/L) When I called my supplier they explained that not only was there the extra tax but their costs to deliver it had also gone up so they had to pass that along too. I am one of the lucky ones, I can and do still work, I have a lot of friends that can't. Some are eroding their savings just to stay alive, some are going into debt, some have down sized to the point where the next step down is going to be a doorway on Young Street, food banks can't keep up with the demand, shelters are over crowded......... LOL, I can't even listen to him, his classes must have been fun! And now he is under investigation by The federal ethics commissioner? First time ever for a sitting Prime Minister, that didn't take long! -

I agree there is a problem, what I want to know is: How is taxing Canadians to the point where they have to decide between eating and freezing is going to solve the problem? Do you understand that as a senior in Ontario I get $578.53 a month in pension, I have lived worked and paid taxes here since I was 15 years old and I am now 71. $578.53 doesn't even cover my heating but our wonderful leaders can give billions of $ to other countries because they are poor? -
I use plastic minnows a lot of the time but the hook up goes the same and the results are similar.

Piss on it, I'm going fishing don't have hydro in the hut, don't care, got heat, got food, going to spend some time with a really good friend (might bring a little extra food though just in case )

Is there a right way???????? It really depends what you are fishing for and how aggressive the bite is. Through the head or through the tail; For perch I have used both! For perch and walleye I use a #6 hook, sometimes I'll put it through the eye sockets (doesn't seem to kill them) if you are jigging at all this seems to make it look like the minnow is darting up off the bottom to grab food (I usually use a larger than needed bell sinker and bounce it on the bottom, my thought being it stirs up a bit of sediment which would generate food for the minnows). Now, if the bite is slow or I am getting a lot of hits but having trouble setting the hook I will hook them as close to the tail as I can get the hook through, this gives them a chance to taste the minnow without feeling the hook, give it a little extra time when you get a bite before setting the hook (2-3 seconds) and watch your hook ups soar! For walleye I strictly hook the minnow through the eye sockets, almost all my walleye thorough the ice come on a #6 single snelled hook with a minnow hooked through the eye sockets. The one big difference it that I crazy glue a small piece of red wool (about 1/2" long) to the shank of the hook, I believe it looks like blood in the water and makes it look like the minnow is hurt (easy prey for a walleye) ( have proof that I and another young man who shall remain nameless for the moment put over 20 walleye on the ice in an hour and a half using this technique). Over the years I've tried MANY variations, I'm not even going to try to list them all but at 71, (and I can remember fishing in puddles with a stick and a string) (never mind the wise cracks about what did I have for supper last night cause I'll ask my wife and she'll tell me ) I've got a lot of years of trying

Big Cliff doesn't do political threads anymore. Everyone that has a brain knows exactly what he thinks of the corrupt, lying, incompetent, idiots. -
Saddly I have seen a lot of really great people leave over the years because some people just aren't happy unless they are trying to find fault. I have always enjoyed reading Mike's reports, I didn't always comment because I didn't feel I could add anything. For Mike to spend the time he did and offer to continue helping us through the planning will never be forgotten!

Had a chance to talk with Mike yesterday, WOW! Such a nice, knowledgeable young man. He gave us about 6 options that he thought would suit our needs and spent almost an hour on the phone with us giving us details on each of them. Can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Thank you Mike!

I have sent him an email but haven't heard back from him yet. He would be my first choice. I wish he still posted on here, I loved reading about his adventures

OK so my son and I want to do a fly in fishing trip this year. Species, walleye and trout (in either order) we want quantity rather than size. We are looking at 3-5 days and we are willing to hire a guide for some if not all of the days. I am not sure of what the best plan is for us, we want to fish and relax but above all I want it to be something he will remember for the rest of his life. Mike, if you could chime in here, your input would be appreciated.
