whats your favourite spinner for trout
Big Cliff replied to hurraylien's topic in General Discussion
You want to know mine? PM me, if I know you I would be happy to share! Never thought I'd be the one to say this but there is too much specific information being enjoyed by lurkers on this site now, people that don't contribute a thing and have little or no respect for others. -
Crappie fishing on Sturgeon Lake has been less than steller.

True but that wouldn't be very nice for the people that own cottages there. Actually, they might not mind the dinamite as long as it landed in a boat, I'm sure by now they are getting so fed up that they would sware that it was the guys in the boat that had the dinamite! -
No, he wasn't drinking, this "half step has been reported Talladega on a number of occasions according to witness in the area and it isn't marked in any way. He isn't trying to get rich off this but just wondered what the best way was to handle it. Thanks for your input gang.

Like Roy said, we DO have one! it just doesn't get used all that often which is a shame. There are so many good ones to share.

Went out yesterday to a favorite honey hole, saw and caught a few but it was so slow. Nine boats congrigated on the only action in the area and as is so typical, catch one and ten lines are being cast to the place where you caught one. What ever happened to courtisy? We anchored outside of the pack, we didn't invade their space but the second we caught one, there were lines being cast all over the area. Same thing happened to us this morning. We went to the same area, there was a boat fishing with three guys in it so we went to the oposoite side of the bay. We catch two fish and next thing you know they are moving in on us. They then proceeded to keep an OOS bass on the sly. Next week I think I will take a few sticks of dynamite and go fisherman fishing.

Ok, here is the situation in short form: A friend went to Talladega for a race. In the stands there is a split in the stairs and a half step. He didn't see the half step, tripped, fell, ended up with 16 stitches in his arm, a lot of pain, and when I looked at the job they did on his arm, a 6 year old could have done better but that is just my opinion. Several people that witnessed what happened came forward, one of them commented that he had advised the organizers on several occasions that this was a hazard, he also commented that he had seen others fall in this exact same location because of this "half step". Things are well doccumented c/w photos of the injuries, Talladega have even sent him a letter telling him that they are going to have their clames Dept. contact him and offer him some form of compensation, perhaps even free tickets to another race. Ya right, free tickets to compensate for lost wages (he lost a week of work) his wife had to drive 16 hours straight to get them home because he was in so much pain, they lost their hotel deposit. I have suggested that they contact a personel injurie lawyer in the U.S. and go after fair and reasonable compensation. So, my questions are: Do you think they should? Is there any law firm in the U.S. that stands out in this kind of case? They don't have a lot of money but all they want is to get treated fairly. All help would be most appreciated! Cliff

Awe Swetheart, you know me if the bite was good I would pm all my friends LOL. Thing is, last week they were hammering them in the same place, it has gone dowm hill from then. Last year it was Easter weekend then it slowed down. Only thibng that is consistant is the amount of sun light. Temp is way below last year and the bite was on about a week ago, same time as last year. You could be right! I hope you are!

LOL, I bought one, all my buddies bought one, I don't think any of us ever did catch a fish with them. I think I still have a full kit that I bought for a friend but never did give it to him since it didn't seem to work. I think it was kind of like the "pet rock" thing when it came out, good marketing!

Good going! They sure weren't in the shallows this evening! Water temp 52°

Keep looking, there are some good deals out there, I sold my 96 Polaris a few years back for $3500.00 it was in mint condition with about 750 original miles on it. Only reason I sold it was that I just wasn't using it anymore and by the time I paid insurance and everything on it I figured it was costing me about $10.00 a mile to run it. Back then there wasn't any ice fishing on this lake and I had an ATV.

I'd be all for it, don't know how much good it would do but it has to be better than doing nothing.

If they are being caught and sold leagally then I would have no problem with it but I'll bet you that some of these fish are finding their way to the market. No, it wasn't a camo boat but it was a local guy. The fishing was very slow over there today water temp about 49°. There were a few being caught but they were tight in the East corner, mostly small ones. My son and I tried again this afternoon for a while, we got a few but all small. At one point I finally had to ask a guy if he just wanted to fish in my boat, they had crowed in so close that I could have literly steped from my boat into his, seriously, he wasn't a foot away. He finally did move off about 10 ft. I also tried over in the marina on my side but water temp was only 47° and I didn't get a bite. I have to tell you, the locals are sure getting pissed off with people tresspassing on their properties and people taking more than their limits and I sure don't blame them.

Apparently the guys that got caught last week were right back there the next day according to one of the neighbours and they didn't seem to be throwing anything back. I went over there today but the fishing was really slow, there were however hundreds of smaller dead crappie laying on the bottom. I'd like to see the MNR put on a real blitz. I was also told by a fellow fisherman that he was at an Asian market in Markham last week and crappie were selling for $8.99/lb. Now let see, how many crappie would it take to cover the fine IF you did get caught?

We did have oil when we bought this place. Then there was the inspection of the oil tank (has to be done every 7 years now), then the chimney, (they decided I neaded a SS liner in it which was going to cost about $700.00) then a neighbours oil tank leaked and caused a mess that cost over 1.2 million to clean up. We switched to propane. I love it, our kitchen range is propane, we have a propane fire place in the family room, our hot water is propane, and even my BBQ is hooked up to propane. No more oil tanks to worry about, I just rent the propane tanks (cost me $48.00/year for the two of them) No more chimney to worry about, don't need it with the propane, and my insurance actually went down because of the upgrade to the heating system. As far as cost to operate, I believe it works out to be about the same but the convenience is the big factor. I wouldn't go back to oil again.

Just heard that a couple of "guys" got caught by MNR on Sturgeon Lake with about 40 fish over their limit. Good for the MNR, it is nice to see some enforcement!!!!!! From what I understand there is going to be a lot more of it here in the future and the neighbourhood watch isn't going to hurt either. So please MNR, keep up the good work!

I did hear that it had been sold but condos would raise property values even more. As for a place to launch, call me, I can hook you up.

Well, today was the big day, it was time for the docks to go in, a job I just can't do myself anymore. Skeeter and his son showed up, Pikeslayer his beautiful wife, and son showed up and brought Jorden (one of Sean's college friends) along as well. It took us 3 hours but the docks are repaired and in. I could never have done it without them. Thank you each and every one of you for all your hard work and wonderful company!
-
That is the one Terry.
-
You could probably generate about $25,000.00 a year renting it out but I have way too much work to do right now LOL. As far as chasing toothies, we catch them right off the dock so you wouldn't have to go far. The place just two doors over sold recently for $440,000.. with no boat house, no garage, and not nearly as nice a lot so I doubt this will be on the market for very long.

Just found out that our next door neighbour is moving on and they have just put their place on the market. This is not a cottage, it is a beautiful house and the owner is maticulas in everything he does. Wet slip boat house, huge 2 car garage, paved driveway. Fantastic fishing right off the dock, Beautifully manucured hedges and gardens. I'll bet he might even throw in the boat and best of all, you'd have a fantastic neighbour on one side and me on the other. (Ok, Ok, so there is a downside to everything) Anyway, if you know someone that might be interested let me know, Asking is $495,000 but I bet there is some wiggle room in there. I'd love to have a fellow OFNr as a neighbour! I might be able to help with jobs, moving, WHATEVER!!!!! Oh and not that it matters much but I know a fairly good small engine mechanic that lives close by.

So, I have to ask, WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THAT MANY SMELTS? That is just plain nuts! By the time you get finished cleaning them they would be mush, you could never eat that many smelts, why would anyone take more than they can use? No wonder our fisheries end up in trouble!
