  1. Sobey's has eye of round on for $3.99/lb for any of you guys that make your own jerkey
  2. In a heart beat young man, without a second thought 😊
  3. Wouldn't take much to build a still, opens up all kinds of possibilities, make all your own liquor, brew wine, so much easier to store than beer.
  4. Install new carpet then, that would be the least expensive option.
  5. I did have a house there until about two years ago when that Parry Sound 33 fire happened. During the evacuation someone broke in, ransacked the place and torched it (no insurance). My son and I have spent the last two years cleaning up the mess and building a little bunkie but I have a 30 ft Winnibago coach with it's own 4KW generator and we have installed a small solar system in the bunkie so we are totally self sufficient 😊
  6. For years now my son has been trying to convince me that having an Argo would make our lives easier. Almost all our summer time is spent fishing small backwoods lakes and up until now we have had to tow a boat or rely on cached boats which often presented us with challanges. Sometimes we would spend an hour on our ATV getting there to find out the boat was already in use. Another factor is that at 75 I am not as steady as I use to be so things like trying to wrestle an outboard onto a tinny by myself isn't nearly as much fun (or as safe) as it use to be. As a result I often ended up not going fishing unless my son was available to do the grunt work. We have done a ton of research, read and re-read the specs, made wish lists then done reality checks and shopped, boy did we shop Lol. 6 wheel/8 wheel, tracks/no tracks, upgrade to the Scout, 650/700, carbonated/EFI, buy new or buy used....... so much to consider. It was tough (but fun) and in the end we decided that we wanted to bite the bullet and go with new. Yesterday I placed the order for two 2021 Argo Frontiers 650 6X6 with whinches and brush guards and two trailers so we can tow them where ever we want. We take delivery first week in May so we'll be all set for the opening of walleye. Having the two units will give us a lot more flexability, I can head out fishing while he is at work and he can catch up in the evening, we can raft up and fish together or each check out different areas.... Can you tell I am excited 😊. The property up North in French River is all set up, last fall we got the well and septic systems all back up and running so I can park the motor coach there for the entire summer if I want, no worries about having to go dump holding tanks every few days or get fresh water, no problem self isolating for this old man. 2020 might have been a bummer but 2021 is off to a great start 🤗
  7. Last year I ended up having to come home from Myrtle Beach two weeks early because of this virus and talk of closing the border. This winter I ended up having to stay home and at this point I doubt I will be able to head South for the upcoming winter, there is just too much uncertainty with all the varients that seem to be showing up. We are not even sure how effective these vaccines are long term, now there is talk that you might have to get shots every year like the flu shot...... Having to give up a winter in the South or a fishing trip in the North seems like a small price to pay when world economies are in a shambles and people are out of jobs and could end up loosing everything they own.
  8. Dan, thank you so much for sharing this, what wonderful memories😊
  9. What is under the carpet now? Is there any chance you can just refinish and paint/stain what you already have. I personally would not go with the vinal plank flooring on stairs for several reasons.
  10. I didn't do it at home but many years ago there was a business in Milton called Hogs Head Brewery where you could make your own beer. A couple of friends and I started playing around and developed our own recipe. It worked out so well they actually added our recipe (called Bignell's pilsner) to their book of standards and took out a full page add in the local paper with my picture 😊. If there is a similar place close to you I think I would try doing it using their equipment rather than buying and maintaining all your own, that will give you a lot more options than trying to do it at home. Anyway, good luck and have fun with it, nothing more rewarding than DIY 😊
  11. I asked the owner of Riverwood if there were any openings, they have a 3 year waiting list for seasonal.
  12. Thanks Beans. So many scams out there today 😊
  13. Wow, that some beautiful work, ain't retirement fun 😊
  14. Well I wouldn't call myself a "wood worker" but I did make a lot of sawdust when I built these cabinets in my man cave. The fishing rod locker was a tough one, getting 4 slides to all work in conjunction was a chalange the tolerance is 1/16" on one set. I didn't have table saws and things like that, everything had to be done with power hand tools.
  15. That looks amazing 🤗
  16. Nothing wrong with either of those motors, the thing I would consider in making your decision is service, having easy access to really good reliable service is important. The other thing I would consider is the extra cost to make the change.
  17. Well Saturday on Simco was a much slower day. As I had expected that cold front that moved in Friday made a big difference in just one day. We worked hard and tried a variety of baits and techniques but best we could do for the day was 6 keeper perch. It was still wonderful to get out there and I am really loving having someone else worry about maintaining the hut and all and me just being able to relax and fish 😊. Thursday we caught a burbot and decided to try it, OMG was it ever good! We went on Youtube to research cleaning and cooking them and got some great ideas. We decided to try a couple of variations for cooking it and our favourite was cut into chunks like scallops, tossed in fishcrisp, and pan fried in oil. Never again will burbot be released 😁
  18. Sorry to hear you didn't catch a mess of fish. The bite was slow but steady, we brought home 25 including one burbot and easly released that many. We did keep 5 smaller fish that were badly hooked and we figured they would probably die anyway. We were on 8-10" of ice in about 30 fow. We are going back out again tomorrow but with this cold front coming in I am thinking it might be a little slower.
  19. I am 75, I don't even bother with a floater suit any more, I dont walk on 4" of ice, carry ice picks or a spud. When I want to go ice fishing now I pay my $60.00, park on shore, get transported to and from a nice warm clean hut by knowledgable staff and just enjoy the day😊. Oh, and here is yesterday's catch and several nice jumbos were released to fight another day.
  20. You won't find it in the regs and there really isn't a set distance. Let common courtesy be your guide. In the past if I was going to setup anywhere close to another fisher person I would simply ask if they minded or whould they prefer I moved further off. I can't remember ever being asked to move off and I have ended up fishing with some really nice people.
  21. Are you anywhere close to Lindsay, I have about a cup of extra cure that I can spare. Should keep you going for quite a while. I just buy it from a local butcher shop.
  22. Ya, well I am having groundhog stew for supper, did he predict that? 🤣
  23. Tim Hale's update
  24. Sobye's has whole skinless fresh pork bellies for $3.88 / lb until Wednesday
