Family fishing trip and I can still count to ten
Big Cliff replied to kickingfrog's topic in General Discussion
Beautiful pictures (well except for the last two LOL). Glad to hear that there were no serious injuries! Always love to see kids getting out fishing, it means they have a great start in life!. -
I was trying to remember back to when we first met and while I can't tell you the year, it was quite some time ago. If I remember correctly we started chatting here on OFC (Ontario Fishing Network back then) and our first fishing trip was ice fishing up at Airport Road in Orillia. We sure have had many wonderful adventures since then haven't we? I know there are quite a few pictures around of us fishing up at Jack lake, some over on Simco some right here on Sturgeon Lake (and a few that we won't tell anyone about RIGHT!!!!!!) Remember, you promissed!!!! No matter what we are doing, it's always an enjoyable time! Oh and Joey, you are so right, he is one of a kind (that might be a good thing LOL)

Bless his heart, he called me a few days back, his lawn tractor quit on him (after trying to use it to cut fire wood on his lawn) and he wondered if I could FIX it. Well, not being too sure what I might find when I got there I hesitated but did agree that I would take a look at it first chance I got. Finally yesterday I managed to spring some spare time and Sue and I headed over. Did all the normal stuff checked voltages, traced circuits, found a loose nut on the solonid, checked fuses. Finally just started at the key switch and traced wires. Then Beans reminded me that he had run over a rather large branch and it had jamed up under the deck so I started looking there and found that the plug that links all the safety switches was pulled out of it's socket. Plugged that back in with the help of Beans neighbor Jim who held the thing up on it's side so I could crawl under and re connected the cable and away it went. Problem solved time to sit back and chat a bit. Well just like the TV commercials "BUT WAIT, THERE IS MORE!" His trimmer wouldn't work, it was sitting in the back on a table. Well, why not have a look, I was already there. lets just say that Beans now knows that two year old gas even with stabilizer in it really stinks LOL. I did get it to start and run for him but I went and dumped the rest of the stale gas in the fire pit so that won't happen again (for a while anyway). Anyway, turned out to be a wonderful and productive visit with an old friend and as always the company was second to none! Keep smiling my friend!

Tried one of those mosquito magnet things a couple of years ago. Had a lot of problems getting it to work but when we could get it to keep going we did get a lot of mosquitos (I would say we averaged between 1/4 and 1/2 cup every evening). We ended up having to take our unit back about 5 times for exchange and finally gave up and got our money back. I ended up buying one of the fogger units and that really helped. I would fog the yard and surrounding bushes and we could sit/work outside for about three hours. Not too sure how good it is for the environment but we had to do something.

Was over in Newmarket yesterday afternoon, the temperature dropped from 28 to 17 in less than 2 minutes, rain so hard I almost had to pull off the road. It only lasted a couple of minutes then it was back to blue sky.

Outboard Service / lack of customer service
Big Cliff replied to Can_38's topic in General Discussion
I have been to them for a few things and they have always been helpful and honest! I wouldn't even consider going to anyone else in this area! -
If I'm held vertically I just don't fall down!

Good for you! Most guys would have just cut it up for fire wood! Really glad to see you making the best use out of them!

I'm retired, I just had to work two back to back 13 hour days because in spite of all my careful planning and saving for the last 50 years I still can't make ends meet without the extra income. Then I get to sit back and watch BILLIONS of tax dollars pissed down the drain! You may think that all us retired guys are all set up but I watched friends have to use their credit cards to put food on the table and heat in their houses this winter. I'm not talking welfare bumbs here, I'm talking people that like myself worked our whole lives, raised our families, paid our taxes and watched our pension controbutions get squandered and now we get a whole $1000.00 a month in penson from our government. You try to live on that! So, you go ahead and vote Liberal and watch more billions of $ get squandered and see what is left for you and your kids when the time comes. Who has what track record?

Well, I didn't exactly use the words good bye, (I can't put the actual words on here). Got my Bell bill yesterday for my phone and TV for a month, it had gone up from $95.00 to $134.00 all of a sudden for the exact same service. I called our local cable company who had as it turns out just run fiber optic down our street this past winter. Phone, (better package than I was getting from Bell). Internet, been with them for a couple of years now and the service has been excellent, and a sweet TV package with loads of HD and a bunch of other stuff, $99.00/month. When I called Bell to cancel they offered to discount my prices, then they tried to argue with me, he wouldn't quit until I finally told him I wouldn't take it if they gave it to me. Oh that felt good!!!!!!!! So as of June 12 Bell will be gone from here and if anyone is interested I'll have a really good deal on 2 dishes, a PVR, and two basic bell receivers (all in perfect working order).

Well, there is always the $317,000,000 (which is more like $477,000,000) of our taxpayers money which Wynne was going to INVEST in a company that was in danger of defaulting on a payment of a $234,000,000 loan issued by the provincial government in 2011. She would have us believe that this would be a good investment of our hard earned tax dollars. This woman needs some lessons in finance me thinks.

These four older ladies who lived in Italy always sat outside together near the church and chatted about when they were younger. One month ago they pooled their money together and bought a laptop. Never having been, but having heard all about Florida ,they just happened to click on St. Augustine , FL. They read about the "Fountain of Youth" claimed by the Spaniards when they arrived there. They collected up all they had left and sent for four Bottles of the water. As soon as it arrived, they drank as directed. The rest of this story will make you a believer, because here they are today................... No.......This is TRUE! Really! Would We lie to you? We have a limited supply of this water available at an incredibly low price of just $1,499.95 a bottle. Seriously .... HURRY BEFORE THE INVENTORY RUNS OUT!!!! Make cheques payable to: "Ontario Liberal Party" (You can trust us, we would NEVER lie to you!)

Amazing job!

Must be a liberal bird, it dumps on you everytime it turns around!

Exact same set up. Try the mouths of the creeks, I would be going up into the creek about 50 yards then fishing back toward the mouth.
-
First of all, I would be going shallow small bays with weeds and off the current, I would be looking for 3-5 fow. If you are getting catfish then you are using too small a minnow. I wouldn't be using anything under 6" and would probably be looking for 7-8" suckers under a large bobber. Don't be too quick to try to set the hook! The pike will usually hit it from the side first then turn and take it head first. I wouldn't be wasting my time casting or trolling for them right now, not to say you wouldn't get the odd one but I have fished many spring time pike derbys and we almost always placed in the top three. Big minnows, shallow bays just off the current and we had plenty of pike when others were having trouble getting even one.

Lew. 705-928-8899. I don't want to see him killed either! I can have them to you within 90 minutes! The crackers do work BTW. we used them in French River for many years when bears came too close to the house.

Win A Free Fly In Trip With Me!- PAID AD
Big Cliff replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
Just a thought! if I win I would take Beans! SERIOUSLY! I'll bet he tops most DD's, (last time I looked I'd have guesed at about a 48 EEE) he loves to fish, he isn't a bad cook, he is a great fisherman, he'd never complain about my snoring (he probably wouldn't even hear it) and I can't think of a person that would appreciate it more or that deserves it more! I think that no mater who wins they should include Beans! -
Bear steak marinade: 1/4 cup soy sauce, 1/8 cup real Worchester sauce, 2 TBS white vinegar, 1/4 tsp onion powder, 1/8 tsp garlic powder. 1" thick steaks marinade for about 1-2 hours at room temp., sear on high 1 -2 minutes per side, BBQ on Med. heat until 135° C internal. (tent and set aside while cooking up the fiddle heads) serve with a side of fiddle heads, oven roasted sweet potato wedges (bullrush roots work well here too, just add a bit of maple sugar for the last 5 minutes of roasting).

Well, my cross bow only shoots a bolt at about 375 FPS but I have killed plenty of deer with it. Now to be honest with you I have never shot a red squirrel with it (been tempted a couple of times as only a deer hunter sitting in his stand for many hours only to have one of the little suckers let go about 15' away as that trophy buck approches to almost within range). So I am guessing speed isn't the main factor here! I'll be a 5 lb rock thrown at the little sucker would kill it and I know I couldn't get a 5 lb rock over 120'/second (assuming I dropped it from above LOL)

If my memory serves me correctly (doesn't always happen anymore LOL). You guys are due for a visit up here shortly. Want to try making a couple of batches? (no Steve that was BAtches)

BTW Lew, I have a whole brick of firecrackers here that I would be happy to run over to you if you want to give that a try however, if MNR did decide it was necessary to terminate this bear, I would gladly accept the job of disposing of it and believe me, nothing would go to waste! I am not trying to be a smart ass or anything, I don't want to see this bear killed but if they deamed it necessare, the last thing I would want is to see any part of it wasted!. Let me know if you need the firecrackers!
