The last time i believe my lake was stocked was 1987 with specks. I want to find out who i could call/email to find out if there have been any recent studies done to see if the lake is healthy and cost effective to restock the lake. I'm in the sault area.

i had a 40lb thrust minn kota on my 12' tin and it was the perfect size and i had used it on some canoes. unfortantly a couple years ago i forgot to pull it up when i turned on my 9.9hp, flying back to the launch it launched off the back out in the middle of the lake. i bought a 30lb to replace it and its like it doesnt have the top gear on the 40lb. i really miss that extra little bit of push incase the wind picks up or just where i can to get going a little quick. i say for canoe 36-40lb.

those studs probably work great. i have these boots http://www.overshoe.com/Pages/Product.aspx?category=STABILicers%C2%AE&cat=HLS-OVERSHOE&pid=N5P3S and they have almost the exact studs. these boots are awesome, i love them. you wear your running shoe in them, they are light feels like you are just wearing your shoes, 100percent waterproof and they are warm. great for driving to the lake through your boots on fish all day then go back to the truck and not have to change your boots. highly recommended!

hi guys, you may not remember me but i use to be on here quite a bit 1.5-2years ago. i bought my first house out at a lake 20min from sault ste.marie out of cell phone range out of pretty much out of internet range. the other day i finally broke down and got satellite internet and im finally back on. since buying a house, working all the time and now being engaged i dont get as much time to get out fishing as i use to. im hoping coming on here lights a bigger fire to get my butt out on the lake. ya i live at the lake and rarely get out, its a shame i know. anyways just thought i say hi and give an update. Gavin

lots of places to stay, the quality inn is right across the road from the train station. the watertower is also a nice newly renovated hotel. the train ride is amazing in another couple weeks all the leaves will be changed, they are just starting now.

hey guys! soory i dont get on the computer to often anymore. what billybob said about the pipes is what the inspector said. it was not a wett certified guy that inspected it, it was a guy my home insurance sent out to my place and he took pictures of it and my insurance sent me a list of things to be done and a list of recommendations. the $700 quote for the pipes was just material, i do everything myself. I dont have enough money in the budget within 75 days(less now) to get it approved. its $200 alone just to get a guy out there to get it approved

im back in the bush and i cant put in any type of gas heating unless i get some sort of tank. so far all i've found is good reviews on convections heaters. My home is small and only 1000sqft with no basement.

Most of you know i bought a home in April and my insurance company sent some type of home inspector to my place. about a week ago i got a letter in the mail saying that i have 75 days to get my wood stove approved and stamped. They want me to redo the tile around my wood stoves cause the distance around it is not enough and they want me to replace my pipes because i have a 90degree joint out my wall then another 90joint and up. they want me to just straight pipe it straight out my roof. and well thats $200 said done to retile it and around $700 for new pipes and just a pain in the butt redoing it all and well wood isnt cheap these days and its alot to take care of and its messy so i've decided to just remove my wood stove all together. I'm not big on wood stoves and i cant tell one from the next. i'd like to just sell it cause i no longer have a use for it. its stamped on the back that it was built in 2003 and it says its a "hertiage" on the front. it has a front black door and doesnt look like it was used much at all. i can look to see if i can get more info and pics if any are actually interested. Now that im removing my woodstove im going to have to find another source of heat. There is baseboard heaters throughout the house but they are old and will need to be replaced. baseboard heaters arent easy on power and they arent that nice. i've been looking into the convection heaters and theres a few different kinds out there and a wide price range. the best ones i've been told about are the convect air ones here http://www.convectair.ca/caen/produit/apero.html#fiche but they are pricey from $250-370 depending on size. home depot carries a different company http://www.homedepot.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?D=901523&Ntt=901523&catalogId=10051&langId=-15&storeId=10051&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntx=mode+matchall&N=0&Ntk=P_PartNumber they are a bit cheaper then the convect air and i dont know much about them they also carry this different kind that go into the wall http://www.homedepot.ca/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?D=901509&Ntt=901509&catalogId=10051&langId=-15&storeId=10051&Dx=mode+matchallpartial&Ntx=mode+matchall&N=0&Ntk=P_PartNumber and finally canadian tire carries a different company and they are ALOT cheaper and im a bit leary best of how much cheaper they are compared to othershttp://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524443299842&bmUID=1280796603597 what do you guys think i should go with? im kinda working with a budget but i also dont want to be cold this winter so if its worth the extra well then im gonna have to pay it. anybody have any experience with these convection heaters and does anyone have any other ideas or options for me for heating my home.

thanks everyone! yes its a lake superior musky, i was right at the mouth of the goulais river where it follows into superior.
-
i was down at the mouth of the goulais river 20min north of sault ste. marie. I was casting on shore for smallies and pike and i hooked into this guy. He was my first ever musky. i didnt weigh or measure the fish, just took a picture and threw him backtheres not to much musky water around here so it was definitely a treat getting this guy and considering the amount i've been out this year. i also got out yesterday to my favorite pike lake, it was windy and rough and hard to control the boat, it was a nice day but kind of slowww, my buddy and i only caught 22 pike(40-50 is usually you're average) we got some decent 4-5pounders but nothing big on this trip, nothing worth taking pics of, we brought 6 home for a meal. <a href="http://s167.photobucket.com/albums/u137/gavinpee/?action=view¤t=DSCF0037.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u137/gavinpee/DSCF0037.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

Accessing the internet in cottage country (and rural areas)
pike slayer replied to splashhopper's topic in General Discussion
i moved to a rural area in april and searched all my options. and i didnt come up with very much.\ first there is dial up sloooowww. Second is satellite internet ive been told its really not that much faster then dial but an upgrade. the one company i looked into was xplornet. for there regular package its $50 a month plus taxes, Your start up fees an range from $250-500, It was $250 for the hardware plus if you want a local techy to install it it'll be around another $250 depending on how rural you are. If you are going to be in farm country there is this company i believe its called silo internet and they have internet hooked up to jump from silo to silo providing internet in field country, this is no good to me im in the bush. DO NOT listen bell on their internet sticks, i got one cause they told me they 93% of canada and it doesnt no run on cell signal. Well after i got it i found out they cover where 93% of where canadians live!! so basically it only covers high populated areas stuuuupppid bell god i hate them. Depending on how far you are from cell signal the best product out there is rogers rocket hub that has just came out. this internet hub has more power then your cell phone and will hook you up signal if you are just out of range. You can run your cell phone, internet, and also home phone off of this hub for around $50 a month and it also works as a router and you can run up to i believe 4 computers at a time. If you are a bit out of range you can hook up an antenna booster to increase your signal distance, the only problem with those is the ones rogers offers all have a recall and none work and im waiting on them to resolve the problem. the start up fee is $150 and the antenna boosters range from $50-300 depending on the power of the booster. i know bell JUST got these internet hubs and they know nothing of them cause well bell is dummmmbbb. I hope this helped a little bit! right now i dont have internet at my home and im playing the waiting game on this recall from rogers. -
the lake is small, im standing on my beach taking the pictures

hey everyone! im sure some of you may remember me and may not want to remember me! i haven't been around the computer much for a while but i decided to pop in and say hello to everyone and see whats going on! First i'll tell you what i've been up to. some good and some bad. back in the beginning of april i was looking at buying a house(posted a report, thanks johnf for guidance). all went through and i bought it. im about 20-25min west of sault ste. marie living at prince lake. i bought a 1000sqft home at the lake with an acre of property. it doesnt need to much fixing up but being a carpenter i have to get my hands dirty doing some renovating which is going a bit slow and working on it as much as i can. which takes up alot of fishing time and also met an amazing girl which also takes up lots of fishing time. im pretty much 4km back in the bush out of cell service and from any source out decent internet(pretty much only dial yuck) which why you havent seen me around much. there is 30 full time residents and 27non full time resdients on the lake but it quite quiet and you don't hear to much but have come into contact with quite a few critters so far. i've seen lots of partridge on the road, porripines, raccoons, rabbits, foxes, a few black bears running through my yard, also seen a deer(a doe) in my backyard 2 weeks ago and also had a large bull moose run out in front of me last saturday night on my road. The lake is pretty slow and to be honest i've been there since april and have not really fished it. i've casted from shore and got a few smallies and my girlfriends little brother caught a small speck. The lake is known to have smallies and speck catches are rare but are known to be residents in the lake. Mid june i rolled my dakota down a ravine on my road and it caught fire and it pretty much burnt to nothing as you can see. my buddy and i walked away without a scratch but it hurt watching your truck burn from a distance. i bought a 2000 chevy s10 extended cab 4x4 and so far has been a great little truck. With everything going on i have not had anytime at all to fish! i've been out 4 times since ice out.once for pike. once for lakers as i watched my buddy catch all of them having a personal skunking. i went and fished the goulais river catching a 10lb musky(my first) im waiting on pics from my buddy. and i've caught some small bass in my lake. well that pretty much wraps it up for now! i hope you enjoyed my little reporting in and i'll be on every once in a while but not to often. have a great and safe summer everyone!! buying cottage property and converting it to residential
pike slayer replied to pike slayer's topic in General Discussion
hey dr. sal thats actually a pretty good idea!! give me a couple weeks to get settled in and i'll have a OFC party out there for sure! My brother is looking at buying a house and i've been helping him out a bit. what ive noticed is you really have to jump on deals cause they go FAST. alot of the nicer houses are gone even before the sign goes up in the yard. find out what exactly you want and even get a real estate agent looking for you. good luck and let me know what you come up with!
