  4. OK let me do some math. 1400 lbs is approx 636 kg. Since Beer is mainly water thats approximately 636,000 ml of beer. A can of beer is approx 355ml so that is approximately 1790 beers or 74 cases. Wow party on. Sounds like a great trip. I'd love to see a picture of that payload.

  10. Algonquin is logged heavily and has thousands of kilometres of roads throughout. If you want to know more about it take a peak at Barry Bridgeford's site Algonquin Adventures. Click the forestry tab and there is everything you wanted to know about logging in APP. http://www.algonquinadventures.com/ He has a lot of info on Forestry in the park and is an advisor to the Algonquin Forestry Authority. Frankly I think they should drastically limit logging in the Park. Last Year and in 2005 I ran into active logging while travelling the back country. From the noise of logging equipment to having to portage over a huge gravel logging road. This thing looked like a county road. Enjoy the site I know there are also some hard core fisher people on the forum.
  11. "The only way to preserve old growth white pine is to turn it into a nice piece of furniture like this desk here" Quote from a Tembec Lumber Mill manager circa 1973

  21. Fishermen are a superstitious bunch. *crosses fingers, Knocks on wood* I have a "friend" some of you may know that is teasing me (in the kindest possible way- ya loser) about a current skunk on my last trip to Algonguin Park. There are plenty of theories why the SKUNK, the weather, the moon, the fish were in transition etc, etc My own personal feeling why I skunked was that my neighbour talked to me about the fish we were "going' to catch. In my world that's a "no no" the eve of a trip. You can only talk about fish that have been caught in the past. I even remember telling the guy to stop talking about it because it would "skunk me". There you go a self fulfilling prophecy. Another practice we avoid is ridiculing a skunk because that is the surest way to get it to attach to you. Let me know what everyone else's superstitions are. With the luck I have been having lately I need all the help I can get. Beware the Skunk
  22. uh oh batten down the hatches...

  25. Hey Joey Take a rack and put them on a sheet of foil big enough to wrap the ribs completely. I use the Heavy Duty stuff. Then score the ribs with a knife along the bones. Then add salt and pepper to taste, two cloves garlic pressed. A Tablespoon of balsamic vinegar, some tabasco to taste, two tablespoons butter, drizzle with maple syrup and a couple tablesponss Worcester. Wrap foil tightly and seal. Put on top rack of barbie with one burner on. Do not let temp go over 200 degrees. Put on pre - soaked mesquite chips in smoker box at this time. Then have beer After 45 mins open foil carefully (steam will escape) retrieve ribs and put on low flame and baste with any residual sauce from the foil. To finish I take regular hickory BBQ sauce and mix some dijon with it say 1 tblspn per 1/2 cup and brush on and finish over flame so the sauce carmelizes. Cut into single ribs or leave in half racks. Serves two. Good Luck
