Stories Of Close Encounters With Dangerous Game?
hammercarp replied to michigander fisherman's topic in General Discussion
We used to fish for brook trout on the branches of the Saugeen. Near one small town a guy had his collection of animals. He had a piebald whitetail and a camel and others. He had several bison. We stopped one time to look at the big bull bison that was right up against the fence. He was cropping grass. I saw some clover growing on the opposite side of the road and grabbed a bunch. I fed it to him through the page wire fence. Everything was fine, then I heard a car pull up behind me and the doors open. All of the sudden I could see the whites of that bulls eye. His massive head was right in front of me. He snorted and he hooked his horn on the fence and I could hear the fence groan. This was 2 ft from me. I thought I was in big trouble as the fence was old. I retreated and almost fell. The bull unhooked himself and took off. I turned to see a stupid woman there with her dog. She was taking her dog to see the buffalo. -
Thanks guys.

"The 2nd amendment argument is garbage. When it was drafted the only firearms were muzzle-loaders, not assault rifles with 30 round clips. And despite what the NRA tries to instill in people's minds, it isn't inviolate. Amendments are able to themselves be amended, in fact it's been done. Prohibition was a constitutional amendment that was repealed with another amendment. " Dave. Thank you for your service in our armed forces. I have read this argument many times and what those that make this statement forget is that at the time the rifled musket was the second most powerful weapon on the planet. That amendment put enormous power and responsibility in the hands of the individual. With one of these weapons one could do the unthinkable, like defying a king or killing a lord. The only way to reduce the number of these tragedies is to stop the media circus and health care for the mentally ill and support for their families. Knee jerk reactions and band aid solutions will do nothing.

Some people are born with out limbs or without an ear and some are born missing a conscience. They cannot empathize or sympathize with the rest of humanity. We're just bugs to them. No amount of legislation or counciling will change this. Almost immediately after the tragedy I read the hard liners on either side of the gun issue making statements on how to prevent this kind of violence. We are going to see the killers face fill our TV and computer screens for the next several days at least. We are going to see the weapons used along with a full description of how they work over and over again. The media will show us the killers FB page , his Youtube channel, any chat groups or forums he participated in, and they will pursue everyone that ever knew him at school or work or in his neighbourhood and private life. Some will co-operate in order to get there 15 minutes of fame. We will see pictures of the faces of grieving and shocked parents. We will see the look of fear and confusion on the faces of the children. The media will produce a computer generated animation of the school showing where the killer parked his car , where he entered the school and where he shot his first victim right up to where he killed himself. Any videos of the killer participating in any activity will be shown. We will see this stuff over and over again during the next several days. This media frenzy and it's subsequent creation of another anti-hero will be the single biggest factor in guaranteeing that this type of outrage will happen again.

I am deeply saddened by this and want to express my sympathy for those that lost children, relatives and friends. As for the shooter I have nothing but contempt for his loathsome and cowardly act.

Us carp guys don't have to have a boat, motor, trailer or 4x4 to tow it with so we get to buy even more stuff. So much stuff that they sell "carp barrows" to lug it from your vehicle to the shore. I have seen and this no joke . Gold plated carp gear. Mr Rousseau may be right all things being equal but good angling skills will put more fish in the net than all the tackle you can or can't lug. . If anybody wants to buy some carp gear I have some for sale.

How else do I get the carp slime off of them?

Wonder bread carp bait going belly up?
hammercarp replied to i2cool2fool's topic in General Discussion
Tragic to hear of so many jobs being lost and yes some carp anglers swear by Wonderbread and are saddened by the thought. -
I use a baitcaster. An Abu Garcia Ambassaduer 6000. They are known as well built reels. In the states they are even marketed as carp reels with a custom side plate.

Thanks guys.

Game farming in Alberta is controversial and I suspect there is more to this story. Not taking sides just an observation. -

No. There is something wrong with the idea of not being able to eat the things that grow here. I have a great idea though. More people should fish for carp. This would help take the pressure of other species. This is especially true in S. Ontario's more densely populated areas. Carp are a tough fish and can handle C&R if handled with a little care. Our carp angling group has pictures of carp caught multiple times over a many year period. I am serious about this. It is part of the reason I took up carp angling and chose to help promote the sport.
