Thought of this on the weekend. Use a projector and gaming motion detector along with tablet or e-reader to project your book on the ceiling when reading in bed. Use your hand motions like turning a page to "turn the page". Kinda like the clocks that project the time on the ceiling. Don'tt need reading glasses and the book doesn't hurt when it falls on your face.

Why not keep it real simple. If someone wants something (rod, reel, sonar....) maybe they can arrange a bulk rate and offer it to OFC. Maybe they can get their's for free or real cheap. There are already a few people who do this on the board for plastics, rods, charters etc. Maybe a list of suppliers could work. To keep it spam free it goes into classifieds. I'm not a regular, but most of you are and could pm each other about deals and direct people to classifieds. Not really what Cliff's original idea was, but could still work. -

Direct from wholesaler or retailer with a promise of a bulk purchase could work. For example - contact Coleman and say we have 35 guys who want a Coleman stove. Ask what is the best rate you can give?. Let the salesmen offer you some other items. Maybe they come back and say - ok if 45 of you want it we will give this rate. Its kinda like the way these group coupon discounts deals work. There doesn't necessarily need to be an investment in inventory. There would be a point man to gather the cash from board members. Pay in advance. Once enough people have paid the stuff is purchased. All the supplier wants is one cheque. Could work for rods, reels, lodges meals etc. (too bad beer store wouldn't work) Maybe TJ could get a cut and an OFC stamp of approval could be a marketing tool. There are some logistics like - where is the cash collected and how is the inventory distributed. -
I'm in the Markham area. I'll carpool if anyone else can make it happen.

That was just awesome! That pick with the bass flopping in his hands is great! (Well thay are all great but that one in particular)

I'm at Bark Lake by Barry's Bay right now. My buddy installed a new Hummingbird depth finder. Lower end. Periodically it just switches to 0.6 ft. Always 0.6 And the screen is garbled. Any ideas? We've adjusted the angle but will take it apart tomorrow to try and figure it out.

Awesome. Wish my grandad took me for carp like that! Did you have to blur the face of the second pic to protect its identity? I've seen backgrounds blurred but I think this getting a little carried away.

Wow!!!! I love crazy weather.

And do you have any added pics of the planer board mast?

Call a health care provider and ask about resources in his area (Ontario or telehealth) Ontario 211 or any crisis line (they can assist you to get one in his area). A crisis unit may be able to show up and talk without the risk of being "formed" or anything intimidating. You need a resource in his area to check on him. Call him often enough to know you care. Make plans to call in future. If you are thinking the worst, don't be afraid to ask the hard questions (and call 911). Asking specific questions will not cause him to do anything. (Vince has a good idea - take him fishing and talk!) And get yourself some help. It can be very stressful. Those crisis lines will help you too. -
I'm jealous and think I will have to do something about that. Thanks for the post

Gotta say I agree with the confidence statement. I killed bass with it last year. By far my best year ever. It gave me confidence to go and try new things when I actually don't have a lot of chances on the water. I think it was actually the "new things" that were responsible for the quantity and quality but I sure will invest again this year - actually just bought a small pack of 4" minnows for some walleye tomorrow. They go bad fast in temp changes so I think I'll stick to the smaller packs.
-
Must say Sturgeon is high on my list Big Cliff. Only fished it a couple a times, but I liked it (actually my best walleye day ever with Gregg Klatt! - what a sweet day!). Great location for me travel wise too. Its monthly fees vs. up front cost. The cottage would be ideal but $20,000 + fees is so much more in my ballpark than another mortgage + taxes. And really for me it is about having easy access to good water + some camp fires/swimming/fishing etc. for the kids. Some place I can head up to after work if I wanted.

MUSKY BAY!!! I've had many a Fisherman's breakfast here. Nothing better than pulling up and docking there after a morning fish having a few coffees and big hot breakfast. I didn't realize they had permanenet trailers here too. Never really left the dock area.
-
Thanks guys. The wife is waivering ever so slightly. Gotta keep the heat on!!! She's a great woman and I'm sure she'll see the light!
-
My wife surprised me and asked if I thought we should buy a trailer. She's thinking permanent, deck, shed etc. I'm think dockage for boat, fishing, getting away to fish, thinking about fishing, waking up near the lake to fish, coming in late from fishing. Would need beach, playground (young kids) I'm in Markham. I was thinking Sturgeon, Chemong, Rice?, Scugog - more southern Kawarthas. Any suggestions for decent parks. Anything I should be aware of? Fees? Hydro? Insurance?

My niece forced us to go fishing - the nerve! So I put aside my dandelion puller and my brother, niece and my son hit Rice. Was hoping to catch some crappie but that wasn't happening. Started working a few weed edges mid lake. Moving slow so the kids could still fish so the action wasn't really happening. Ripping a jig or often helping the kids out with a worm and bobber or harness - there was no hardcore fishing. It was real slow to start but things finally started working at Long Island. Finally got the first taste. Action was furious for a while. Kids had a blast! Lots of pan fish. A couple of eaters And a few more under the slot size. Awesome day to be on the water. Best part though was that I was testing my 6 year old to see how long he would last and he had a blast for 5 hours which is by far a record for him!. He just kept asking to stay and keep trying

Somebody isn't ready to grow up yet. Blame everything else except yourself. "If everyone could simply learn to disagree yet remain tolerant and understanding" - how does this fit after a 50 line rant about not tolerating or understanding. Somebody who doesn't vote really doesn't deserve an opinion like this anyway. Spoil the ballot at least. The cop comment is somebody making bad choices in life and blaming the system rather than their choice to stay in this fine society. If you don't like it, and you won't act to change it (even by a vote) then you should leave instead of dragging everyone else down. A very wise man once said to me "Go Fishing". This is from the gospel of Dan Bouck (last weekend actually). Can I have an amen!

Yeah it was a great day. At the risk of turning this into spam and a Kumbaya (sp?) Fest, good people, a guide who bust his butt to figure out a pattern and great weather made for great day. Just don't ask Lloyd to charge yer cell phone though!

Thanks guys. I'm in the Markham area. I think I'm ok with the wood. My roofer and I went through it really well. I had just added new vents when I did the roof last year. As for airflow,I have sufficient openings, they are plugged with fibreglass insulation. I want to cut that back, add baffles and thought I'd seal what I could while were in there.. PS my roofing guy is great. If anyone needs someone PM me.
-
I have discovered the baffles in my attic in my relatively new to me house, are pretty much only decoration. The soffits are blocked. Anyone recommend an insulation company in Markham? Went in to do it myself but the angle of the roof makes it a pretty tough job from the inside. Not a job I particularly want to do myself. Symptom was condensation at the peak. Water stains on the sheathing and running down the joists damaging the ceilings in two rooms on my second floor. Had the roofing guy in first. He was great helping me figure it out.

got this idea reading Big Cliff's thread about CO's. I see all kinds of threads where OFC members talk about the good work CO's are doing despite sad budget cuts. I'll thow this out there to see if anyone has a solid idea on how to do this.... We have an upcoming provincial election. What if OFC members got together and stood up as a voice to support the cause of hiring more CO's? I am a gov't employee (unionized - not related to environment) and admit there is bloated areas, but I think we absolutely need more CO's on the water to enforce the laws. I think we could easily get some media coverage (local TV, radio, OFAH) and I know we can get some OPSEU union support. We can plug OFC too. Anyone have any ideas? Even if it is a meet and greet. Although I'm thinking something with kids is the way to go. Maybe an inof meeting for SRT8's idea for a kids fishing camp to support one of our own too would be good. With the blessing of Terry of course though. Didn't ask Terry or SRT8 before I posted.
-
As a Dad I'd say the idea was awesome. Are you talking a day camp or a sleep over? I would seriously consider dropping coin on this but it would have to be comparable with other stuff out there. My eldest is 6 so he'd hit your younger end ctiteria in year one. His attention span is pretty limited with fishing but he loves it. I never push it with him. If he says he wants to go - were gone. If he's bored or fidgety, we go right in or right to some pan fish fast!!!! You'll need to deal with that. I'm thinking you will find the fishing the easy part though. You will need to figure out something else to keep them busy when not on the water. (Lifeguards for swimming?). You could probably pick up some ECE kids doing co-op placements or a hire a student grant. If my kids were involved I'd volunteer too. I bet you could easily pick up a sponsor that wanted to market to kids to get some free gear. I bet there are some guys on this board who could hook you up. You could also find catering for the kids from other daycares around. Get Italo Labignanni or guys from Fish \n Canada to get you some spots on their shows too. Hell get OFAH to give you a segment on their radio station and a story in the mag for some free publicity if you buy the insurance. Good idea. Good luck! Feel free to PM me for a email address to keep me posted as a possible paying customer. PS I think Blue Pickeral's idea is brilliant. Keep me posted if you do that too.
