Excellent job on that smoker. I like the use of the bbq grills. Remember to keep the temperature down inside your smoker. Good luck with it and let us know how the first batch turns out.

Cool this summer? arctic sea ice melt 3rd highest

I wonder what the average age of the posters in this thread is. And would I be wrong in thinking that the older ones are less likely to believe in global warming? Just a thought as I wade through all of these posts. Now it's time for a beer. -
A nice lake. An excellent public access at the south end of the lake. Good ramp facility for any size boat. Most of the fishing is done midway and at the north end of the lake. A lot of islands so it's a good idea to have lots of gas onboard and a good map or GPS. The lake is at least 30 miles long. Some boulders to watch for in some of the narrows further north so bring a depth finder. A lot of people who fish there also stay at Halfway Lake prov park. A nice park and a nice little lake but the action is slow in Halfway. Fish Onaping or the smaller lakes north of the park. We fished Genevra lake this summer just south of Onaping with good luck on smallies. I think Onaping is a good producing lake but it's a big lake so you'll have to work at finding the fish. Good luck

Pikehunter, thank you for your joke. Yes it was funny. Carp-starter, thank you for your insight. It's comments like yours that help us all keep in check. We as Canadians can go off on a lot of tangents regarding those who have come from various other countries. On the other hand I am sure this kind of thing goes on everywhere in the world. But it is always best that the realities of these situatiations surface immediately so that things don't get out of control. Now, I think I'll go have that other beer.

Hello Fish farmer: I like the setup you have. On your bar you have electric downriggers on the outside and manual downriggers on the inside, is that correct? I am not familiar with using downriggers at all. Please forgive my ignorance. What is Metal Supermarket? Is it a store for DIY's?

Walleye are also affected by fast weather changes. If an east wind moves in, it will dampen fishing for 3 to 4 days. You have to work a little harder and changer your tactics. Sometimes when you get frustrated and can't find them, ask someone else in the boat to suggest a spot and that quite often works. Even a newbie. It's weird man, it's like the walleye start to know you.

Fish for walleye all day long. On bright sunny days fish in 25 to 35 feet of water. If there is a slight chop on the water, evern better as you can cover more ground. But you must jig and use 1/2 oz jigs. Stay away from shore. In early mornings late afternoons and evenings, fish near shore. 15 to 25' of water. Use jigs and go to 3/8 oz. jigs. When they are feeding aggressively you can take them in 3 to 10 feet of water. On very calm days in early and late evenings I've watched them feed on minnows hiding in rock crevices in two feet of water. They would lay and wait. I have never had to fish them at night.

My Recent Fly-In Trip ~ A Message From My Outfitter
gdelongchamp replied to solopaddler's topic in General Discussion
In my years in the north, "Red Lake", and my connections with most outfitters with fly-in outposts, they all to-day share the same concerns as those expressed by your outfitter. I have been to numerous outposts, by canoe, on my travels in the north and also managed outposts for up to 6 monts of the year. Fishing that you encountered at your fly-in is quite typical with most fly ins. However, the defining factor is whether the fisherman is willing to put in the extra effort one day of the week or five or seven days of the week to enjoy the rewards. You obviously enjoy working for your fish and that pleases me to see. You will get more out of your trips. Your posts remind me of my days in the bush in the far north be it the Red Lake area amd near the Territories. "The smaller shore lunch size "3 pounders" were everywhere you dropped a line. If you hadn't found the fish by mid morning, at shore lunch we would take the time to explore your tecniques as you were doing something wrong. Because the tourists were in camp for seven days we required all guides to fish a different lake every day. This would help ease the pressure on the larger mature walleyes. In our outposts we completely discouraged the use of live bait, it wasn't necessary and of course fish finders as they could too easily locate the larger schools of mature walleyes and would receive considerable pressure by six or eight fishermen over a period of five days. "The lazy fishermen." Walleye are elusive and we all know it. Here to-day and gone tomorrow. I am convinced that the fish finders are and have been the major factor in the detriment of the walleye fishery in Ontario in the Sudbury area and south. As for the fly-ins, if the outfitter has not managed the resources well then he will be left with a dormant outpost. No return business. In time however that will change when the new crew who fish the lake with new ideas and determination will find the treasures that have been laying dormant for a few summers. Please forgive the ramble on aspect of this post. I enjoy your posts as they bring back many fond memories of my days in the bush and in the the far north near the territories. -
Maybe you need to come to Sudbury for a while, lots of work here for the handymen. A major sewage backup of 1000's of homes created tons of work. Call the major restorators. They are using striking Vale INco employees to get by with.

Get a Rav 4x4, great on ramps, great on gas all the time and never break down. I use a dakota v8 and it sucks the gas big time.

It is important to note that when you have received your boating card, should you lose it and require a new one, you can only get a replacement card from the issuer of your card. If that person or organization is not able to supply you with a replacement card then you have to take the course again from an other issuer to get a new card.

I dont know man, cork is cork. It's a natural product.

I have two Normarks that I have owned for over 28 years. Still use the same ones to-day and they work as good as the first day I used them when I was guiding. I broke the tip of the blade on one when i dropped it on some rocks, a guest borrowed it and spent the evening honing a new tip on it. Electric filleting knives?

Thank you all for your input regarding these combos. So, I went to CTC and purchased two of them. Brought them to the cash and the young lady informed me that the price reduction tags on them had expired July 10. Soooooo she says, because the stickers are expired now, would you still like the rods? And here is the kicker I am not expecting, "we will remove an additional ten dollars off the already lowered price." "Oh really" I said. So I can purchase the combos for 29.00? "Not a problem" I said, and plunked down the plastic. "Rack her up" I said. So I got me two nice combos for one heck of a deal and will look forward to trying them out. And without blowing my budget all to hell. Lood for a report in the future.

Check out the articles in google regarding raising tilapia in back yard ponds like yours. Very interesting. And a good eating fish. Grows fast. -
If my wife found out I was using her nail polish to paint my jigheads..... ..... ..... ....

Yes it appears to be Dan. Except that the combo also includes an organizer and about four lures and some sinkers etc. The sale price right now is 39.99.

Check to make sure the aerator at the spout isint plugged up or loose befor you do anything, REmove it and clean it and refasten it then try your faucet. If it still leaks at the base then it could be at the base of the spout that is the problem.

I have been thinking about trying salmon fishing and perhaps trout using downriggers. CTC has some heavy duty combo rods and reels c/w tackle and organizer. A ridiculously low price. I believe the combo pkg is by Tackle Target or something like that. Anyone familiar with this. It's only $40.00 bucks with taxes. The lures alone are worth at least fifteen dollars. I am looking at two sets for me and a partner to try this out. Will pick up some elect riggers later if I decide to pursue this.

We fished Lake Manitou a couple years ago using downriggers and a wireline. For some reason the wireline produced most of the fish. We fished out of a trailer park in Sandfield. Where is Manitoulin Island Resort located at?

I voted for ya.

I use to moose hunt with a good friend in Red Lake then he started getting mad because I would leave my gun in the truck and take only my camera and telephoto lens. lol Early morning sun during a cold snap = great photo opps. On the other hand, I called out the last moose we shot in the area before he moved to Ottawa. I let him keep the rack.

We were fishing a small lake north of the Berens River years ago, cleaned a bunch of fish for our supper and tossed the guts in the bush up the shore away from camp not to attract the bears but to attract some eagles. All night long there was lots of squacking from some birds, and the next morning while on the lake we approached where we had dumped the guts, and slowly as we approached a blue heron would take to the air. As we approached closer more would take to the air. We eventually counted thirteen herons leaving the fish guts pile.

An ugly stick and a Mitchell open face reel for me. The first one cost me 100.00 twenty eight years ago and lasted over twenty years including two years as a guide, many canoe trips in the far north and 18 years of fishing on Red Lake.
