  1. Chris... I've been watching for many years... and you never cease to amaze ! If I could afford it I'd commission one formyself... no ... not if I could afford it ... but if I'd be not afraid to use it... your projects are one of a kind art !
  2. Hmmm ... Well don't get me wrong ... I am all about making sure people don't go over their limits and enforcing that is the only way to make sure it happens ...And that daily limit doesn't mean every day ... and possession limit is exactly that ... but I assume he isn't married and doesn't have kids ... because there is no law against catching a limit one day and gifting it to someone else (even someone in your household and then going out the next day to do it again.)
  3. Thanks Guys .. was up last week and got a couple small ones ... Ice was great .. about 12" ... not sure now after that big thaw now though
  4. I hear ya Lew ... to be honest .. I'm not sure if you remember but I caught the 'prospecting' bug a number of years ago ... so now I spend at least a 100 hours in the bush looking at rocks for every hour on the boat ... but Im still a dedicated speck chaser ... and I still have the sit out (alone) in the cold ice fishing sickness too
  5. Thanks Lew .. been a LONG time ! Hope you are doing ok as well ! Last time s=we spoke you hung up your legendary musky rods ... have ya had any "relapses" ?
  6. OMG ... I LOVE them (the older ones) ... I have at least 6 of them ... with a little care and maintenance they last forever ... I run lead core while fishin for deep lake specks ... and 30lb test for giant pike with 10" Jakes at 12 ft off the riggers ... and of course at 30-60 FOW for Lakers ... I only bring a spinning reel for casting I think my average cost was in the $30 range off ebay ... some where 20 years old when I got em .. and some I've had for 20 years .... guess Im old school
  7. Hi folks, I cant believe its been so long since I last posted ... hahaha .. just saw one of my replies from 2012 (on a "bumped" post) ... anyhow hope every one is staying safe and making the best of the situation. Now to my point, I've been staying home (not at the cottage) just outta respect for the locals ... they dont need my city-boy germs ... ok maybe also because there wasn't much safe ice ... but with our "lockdown" soon to be lifted I figured I'd go north and at least shovel off my roof a bit. BUT while I'm there I HAVE to get out on the big lake(s) for some lakers. Would most appreciate any feedback on the conditions (ice/slush/fishin) ... pm's welcome too (and .. does anyone know if Bait on the lake is open ... if not is there somewhere on the way up tha t can sell shiners ? Thanks and tight lines !
  8. And I just spat up a perfectly good mouthful of throat sanitizer !
  9. OK .. that didnt work ... here it is in another format
  10. Someone who is a good navigator ... and can find good landmarks on the skyline to help guide you back to shore ... like this (can you see the CN Tower ??? .... its a great landmark when out chasing Lake Ontario Salmon ) : Skyline.bmp
  11. My boat ramp is "slide her down the hill" down to my dock in the spring ... and then "drag her up the hill" for the winter ... Pretty sure I'd be a lot safer floating around in old ironsides (getting some good old fashioned covid-19 killing rays) than I would be all cooped up in the "locked down" city ... dodging shopping carts going the wrong way down one-way grocery aisles (even with a mask and gloves) - I'm seriously thinking of redesignating my primary residence just so I wont have to put up with nonsense ... I pay way more taxes and disdustingly more for electricity and phone (and well .. everything) up there just because I'm not a "permanent" resident ... even though I don't make use of most of the services for most of the year ... jeeze .. I definitely need a scotch (Sorry for the rant)
  12. Can't decide which has given me more pleasure (beauty aka "old faithful" - 35+ years complete with boarding stairs to help my 94 year old mother in-law get in and out) ... or the beast (can't believe she's already almost 8 years ... only got out a couple times last year and this year is looking a little iffy too) The beast ... does have a 300 litre tank ... so I suppose I could self Isolate at sea
  13. Very Sad .. he was my hero as a kid ... I also got the good fortune of watching him land more trout in a day than I did in a season, a true gentleman and one of the earliest (along with "Red") to promote fishing (especially in Ontario). RIP John
  14. And of course the roof is barely 1 season old
  15. Crap ... its always something .... sooo ... as much as it saddens me ... I wasnt going to go up to the cottage (respecting our stay at home policy ... even if it is in fact our summer home) ... but the neighbor just sent me these pics ... now I'm afraid if I don't go ... it could be raining inside ... or worse
  16. Just got this notice from the Quebec folks (we have a camp in a Zec) ...its gonna be a LONG spring "The directive from the Public Health Department is simple: Stay at home! Despite the fact that your members have a trailer, a cabin, a fishing license, a fishing or hunting package, an annual right of movement and that the public territory remains open, the public health directive is the priority and takes precedence over all law, permit or right of zec. Stay home! Camping is not authorized and organizations must inform their members and customers that the facilities are closed by order of the Public Health Department. The same directive applies to the rental of chalets, yurts and other ready-to-camp packages. Going fishing is not an activity that can justify the interruption of containment. People can leave their homes out of necessity, in an emergency or through force majeure. Spread the word to your members: Stay home!"
  17. Much appreciated
  18. 20. I just bought two cheapo plastic "gel" chairs and put them in back to back (either side of the middle bench)... cover over the top and presto a tent ... other trick I used (for in the water) I tied a 5lb weight on either side ... just in case ... then since gravity never fails ... if water does start to pool the wieghts pull the cover back taut (my old tinny had no snaps on it so my cover was only streched over the top
  21. True ... they clean her up and "spring-ize" it before she goes in the water so I suppose I wouldn't know (what the eye doesnt see - the heart doesnt feel )
  22. Wow ... I'm close by (at Minett) ... used to wonder whether it was worth the extra few bucks storing inside (heated) which i did the first few years vs shrink wrap outside ... feeling little better about about my choice now ... guessing the insurance rates may go up this year
  23. Hi Wayne !!! ... thanks ... truth be told rather be chasing Specks somewhere up in Porcupine District ... but Muskoka lakers are tasty too... and pretty much have the lake to mself. I just read your post about the back-up camera ... I broke down and got one for my F150 ... but decided to replace my Magellen GPS with the old one that comes with the camera ... no more real estate on the dash Should have done it yesterday ...its too cold to go out and hook it up to the reverse lights ... also cant decide if I should mount it up top or on the licence plate (per the instructions)
  24. A couple of New Years lake trout... 6lbs and 2 lbs
  25. 30+ Atlantic On the Cascapedia ...with a Bogdan (preferably mine) Giant char on the Tree (with Moose as my guide) 6lb Brookie (Secret lake) through the ice (Maybe with Irish and his sledding gang) 8lb Quebec Red ... not fussy where or how or who with Ahhh... scratch all that ... just thankful for the time I do get to watch the sun come up and the mist rise off the water !
