  1. Today I woke up at 6:45am, got my gear loaded in the car and headed for Lac Leamy. Temp was at -8C and a slight breeze from the south west..... couldn't ask for better At 7:15am, stopped at the dépanneur "corner store" for a hot brew and the way I went. Got to the lake around 7:30am, just before sunrise and managed a pic of it.... beautiful sight!! Here another shot at the Casino And the highway 50 close by Got setup in the same area as last time but just a little deeper.... Tipups were in 10 fow and my jigging hole was between 12 - 15 fow in front of the creek that leads to the Gatineau river. Here's a shot of it And again here is my setup Didn't take long for the perch to notice my offerings.... first one on my tipup and the second one At some point I noticed 2 people walking in the distance and going for a walk in the bush.... looked familiar but could not identify them..... was too far away. Then all of sudden this guy decided to pay me a visit from above Must of been cold up there cause that south west breeze sure was making me wear my extra clothing I had brought. At around 9:40am, decided to call it a day cause my daughter had to go to bowling and did not want to be late!! All in all caught 2 perch on the tipups and none on the jigging rod Real nice to be out Going tomorrow morning same place and hope to land some eyes Hope you enjoy! Leechman
  2. OK.... no problem Tomorrow I'm going to Leamy again, early. Come on Kev, there's still some hard water fishing to do before soft water Thanks johnnyb, no shame in posting a skunk report and I know how it feels..... just had a good time out there. Landing a fish would of been a bonus for sure Mike, it may have been but I think I was a little too far north
  3. Mike I know exactly which one you talking about. Those are good knifes and from what you saying, a sharpening from a professional is in deed required here. Here's my tools I use for filleting.... and like you, I mostly do catch & release except for "dore". This knife was given to me by my brother a long time ago and using the V sharpener every time before, during and after does the job very well. Here a pic of it: My brother was given this knife from Snap on company when he was a truck mechanic and since he doesn't go fishing at all, gave it to me
  4. Good luck tomorrow Cudz , but be careful out on the ice!!
  5. Yeah yeah yeah tough guy  There's no more driving on the ice for this guy this season only walking Paul you coming tomorrow morning?? 6:00am, got plenty of minnows!!
  6. Yes Bruce it was a beauty day and had a great time. Did you go out last Sunday?? Not sure what you mean about that Didn't have time to check Cliff from all the years I've been ice fishing, never heard the ice make so much commotion as today. I tell ya at some point I thought there was seismic activity going on The noise sounded like a tree being hit by lightning and falling down and this is not exaggerating.... Once I had the car off the ice, I did not worry too much cause there was a good 20" of ice.
  7. Mike, like Billm said that little gizmo is for getting the edge back on your knife blade..... If it does not, I suggest you bye another. I've had the plastic V sharpener for the longest time and when it's time for filleting, a couple of pass and I'm good to go. How old's your knife anyway?? Jacques
  8. Welcome to OFC ninepointer You made the right decision by joining.... best site on the planet!! Looking forward to your future reports Leechman
  9. Today I had booked the day off to go fishing at my favorite walleye lake. Got up at 7:00am, temp was -18C with a slight north west wind, bright and sunny Prepped the rest of the gear and loaded the car. Drove my daughter to school at 7:30am and was on the road at 8:00am. Got to destination at 9:00am, here's a pic of the famous cross on the island at Lac St-Marie, click on the header of the pic to see it better Before I drove onto the ice I stopped at the launch and did some thinking.... It's Friday the 13th and it's bright and sunny, the lake looks frozen solid but just could not proceed forward.... But all of sudden this guy in a 4x4 truck goes by me, down the boat ramp and heads out towards my hot spot.... I just looked at him to see what would happen. Nothing happened, he kept going until I could not see him anymore and this is when I decided to go ahead. I don't know, just had my doubt. Got to my hot spot and proceeded to setting up my tipups. Drilled three holes, ice was a good 20" thick but by the time I finished, I felt the ice shake and heard a loud rumble from a fair distance..... I'm like, OK it's the ice building up cause it's below 0 and it's freezing. Started jigging and again, rumble, loud noise. This kept on occurring every minute or so and was really getting on my nerves. All of sudden the ice shakes, hear loud noise and the ice cracks right between me and the car I'm like Ok let's get the hell off the ice to shore. Packed all the gear into the car and drove off to shore. Once on solid ground I felt a lot better that the car was parked off the rumbling ice.... Decided to setup near the boat ramp in the bay next to it. Walked on the ice and drilled three more holes... got setup again The noise of the ice and rumbling did not stop all day..... I figured it out why this was happening, the water level was going down due to the Hydro dams being open because of anticipated floods. It was putting a lot of pressure on the ice and spooking the fish away Had a few hits on the tipups but no takers. Here's a pic of my setup At 2:00pm called it a day.... Had a great time, catching a fish would of been a bonus but was not meant to be Going to try Lac Leamy tomorrow morning early for a few hours. Will report back my results Hope you enjoy the reading Leechman

  21. doack, yes it is our ice fishing setup and will be using it for summer also. Like others said, those are Foxee jigs that you can bye at CTC or Walmart..... there is different sizes and colors..... the ones that was working for us was the 1/4oz Blue silver & white and the glow ones as shown in the pic I posted. The depth to catch them will vary from lake to lake, just a question of being able to locate them. We were in 20 - 25 fow..... On lake Simcoe, they catch them deeper than that. They seemed to be feeding on bottom and that is why we had to jig close to it, like I said in my reply, thumping the jig on bottom triggered the strikes. Good luck on your trip in August Hope this helps! Leechman
