I was driving around on the ice at the 8th Line of Innisfil this morning in my truck. Lots of good ice and very slippery. Didn't catch any fish. It will probably be a perfect skating rink come Saturday.

Thanks Ladies and Gents. I am going to give it another go tomorrow afternoon and maybe even Sat afternoon. Let's see if the warmer temps put the fish in a biting mood.

I have only made 50+ posts but I am sure I'm good for at least 500,000 pageviews. Thanks Mods

Thanks for the heads up. I live just down the road and I have a few extra reels that need a rod to go with.

The curse is broken. I have been ice fishing on Simcoe since I was 5 and I just caught my first Laker today. I probably only put in about 4 to 5 days a season into fishing for Simcoe trout and Whities but after 30 years that adds up. It has even been about 5 years since my last Whitey. But venturing out today from BBP in the cold paid off. A tube jig in about 90 fow was the ticket. Now I can go back to fishing for perch.

Almost no bunnies between Barrie and Bradford because there is a load of Coyotes and a few Wolves. I think I may take up hunting them.

I was out there today also from 11am untill 3pm. The bite was very slow for us also. We moved locations about 8 times but could not find the Perch. Between two of us we only landed 8 fish with four being keepers. Seen a few people getting into good numbers using minnows. There was about a dozen Quads burning around without incident so the weekend will be fine for machine travel. I will be out there again tomorrow around the same time.

Scaried up this doe and a few others today walking around at my Dad's place. Seen a young Coyote and a bunch of Turkeys too. Windy but a nice day in the woods.

WHO LOVES DAVE MERCER'S FACTS OF FISHING?????
Skud replied to profisher25's topic in General Discussion
I watch his show but I am not a fan. I'm getting sick of watching him catch Smallies with a Tube jig 3 out of 4 shows. -
Profisher25. I will take a pic of some of my favourite baits for Perchin' and post them up in a new thread.

I bought the DT10 and the Minnow Rap. I only have used the DT10 for a bit at Doe Lake in the summer and the Smallies really liked it.

I only take pictures on sunny days Misfish. Here is a pic from last March, our last day of the Hardwater season out from Gilford that I didn't write a report on. This is my older Bro with my son Calvin.

Made it out from 2:30pm until dark with my 8 year old son straight out from Gilford. Fished in 12 fow and up to 20 fow. The fish were everywhere but mostly in the 15-17 fow range. I kept only 7 keepers(8-9 inches long) and a few that were hooked to deep out of about 100 perch landed. Talked to a guy that was much farther out and said he caught about 45 keepers so the bigger fish are in 25 fow or more. Shortly after 4pm a daredevil came across from Keswick on his Ski-doo, probably the first of the year. Again we didn't use minnows, just spoons and jigging Raps. Still slushy on top near shore but a solid 5-6 inches of black ice.

Went out from Gilford at 12:30pm today. Very few people out there, maybe thirty max. All grouped together straight out from Gilford Rd. in about 15 fow. The bite was on till about 2pm and died out until 3pm when they started hammering the jigs again. Very aggresive hits, swallowing my spoon right down every time. The average was bigger then the last few winters. We didn't use any live bait and three of us did very well. I just finished cleaning up a few dozen. The family will enjoy eating them for breakfast. Will be out again tomorrow from 2pm till sundown. The ice is a solid 5 inches with some slush on top near shore but that will probably be hard by morning.

Lovers Creek is the hottest spot around Barrie but there is also many smaller creeks through Alcona, Lefroy and Gilford that stack up with them. Buy a Barrie and area map to see all the creeks in the area. There are a few creeks in Oro that get them too.

It is not law, just strongly recommended by Officers of the law when you cross paths on the water. It will become a law after some horrible loss of a child's life on the water.

Costco, 7 min from my house. Dang!

Maybe he will fish for more than just Smallmouth this time around.

Thanks Fisherman

I'm still just down the road Brian. Short winter days means less working hours for me and more play time. I guy can only work so many 70 hr weeks in a row. I haven't even went fishing since the August long weekend.

I am shopping(and researching) around for a new compound bow. It sure has gotten expensive with the new high speed bows. Mathews releases their '09 models tomorrow. 360 fps and probably $1200 for the bare bow and another $500 for accessories. Ouch Start slow, buy used and make sure you have the TIME to invest also.

Thanks for the links. I watched the videos and I am sold on it. In-Fisherman promotes it on there ice fishing series. Seems to do the trick and very easy to operate. How would I know that I am buying the new and improved version rather than an older model with issues?

LOL Rich. These Smallies from Doe Lake had both parasites and the black Sea Lice were loaded all through the meat. The yellow grubs were few(6-8 per fish)
