  1. Good job. With all the deer activity the rut must be happening.
  2. Great report and pics. Those Trout are beautiful. Thanks for sharing
  3. I sat in my blind Saturday morning for three hours and in the afternoon for a couple. Then again this morning. No Whitetail to be seen. The Ruffled Grouse continues to walk about teasing me. I resisted putting an arrow through it so not to blow my cover for the sake of making it dinner. I guess the controlled hunt got the deer spooked. The warm temps and bright moon are not helping either. I did put my trail cam back out Friday afternoon. A few doe came around at night only. Here is a pic of a mature and young doe. I also have a new visitor. Might make it dinner too. I may go out mid week if the camera starts to show some daytime activity.
  4. Good job. Love that first picture
  5. I know a few people that have called the MNR to report a road kill deer and every time they are told that they can claim it for themselves if they wish. Saves the MNR time and money.
  6. I have a pair of Rocky Gortex and a pair of Sportchief's . I like the Sportchief's better.
  7. Sorry to hear things didn't work out for you Brian. Get healed up and back out there with your Crossbow. That ten point won't wait forever.
  8. Way to get'r done. Congrat's
  9. Ahhh yes, good times. I remember it like it was yesterday.
  10. Seems to be a whole lot of golfers hunting around my Dads place. He was telling me he has heard well over 100 shotgun blasts in the past three days. Most coming in three's. I guess shooting from the hip while a deer is in full flight is what hunters feel is ethical. There are about eight guys camping out on a large piece of property where all the banging is going on. They either have 5 tags each or are poaching ever deer they see. They must also be taking about ten shots to put one deer down because there isn't that many around those woods to take all those slugs flying about. I have found dead, unclaimed deer in the past wounded from bad, unethical shots after the controlled hunt was over. I guess there will be a few more for the coyotes this year. Thanks for the report Brian. I will be in my stand on Saturday and Sunday. Hopefully there will be something left to see. The three Bucks I have pics of lived through last years hunts so they should be even smarter this year and survive again.
  11. Nice hawgs!
  12. You should drink less coffee before you hit the tree stand. Far to jumpy when a deer comes along. LOL The rut will have those critters distracted soon enough.
  13. On the upside there is probably less stray cats in your neighborhood.
  14. My Dad is pretty upset with what is going on around his place during this controlled hunt. He calls me last night to ask when the shotgun hunt was to start. I tell him tomorrow(Monday) morning. He tells me it sounded like a war zone around his area at dusk. Nobody hunts for birds in that area so no doubt more then a few people are getting an early start on the hunt for deer. Well to confirm that hunch he found a dead Doe at 8am at the edge of his property, the body was cold and with rigor already so it was shot last night. It was hit with a shotgun slug straight in the butt from behind it. An unethical shot that had the deer run to far to be tracked down. While he was outside around 10am my Dad see's three men climbing over the fence across the road in full camo with shotguns. Once on the road they put on their hunter orange vests. No doubt they did not want to be seen since they were on private property owned by friends of my parents who dislike hunting and would never give permission to hunt their land. A truck pulled up and the boys jumped in and drove off. At 6:05pm tonight my Dad calls again to tell me that there is still gunfire going on in the back fields behind his house. That is 1 hour after sundown. Spotlight hunting at it's best. A call to the MNR has been made to inform them of the events from the last 24 hours. Very disappointing to know hunters are behaving like this. I asked my Dad to retrieve my trail cam from behind his place before it gets stolen from a trespassing poacher.
  15. Well put
  16. The camera is only about 32" from the ground. The field I am shooting is going up hill and I still get the treetops. I did start with having the camera about 40 inches high and I also was missing good shots.
  17. Good to see that somebody is getting into some action. I spent this morning and this evening in the blind with no luck. The high winds must have kept them laying low. The biggest thing I seen was a Grouse. I was tempted to make him dinner but I resisted hoping for something with antlers to come along. I will also get out tomorrow.
  18. My camera shot some good photos the last few days. I think I finally snapped a pic of the dominant Buck for the area. Very camera shy but with a crown like his he is probably the top dog. It is also the only picture of a buck I have with a Doe. The rut is almost here. Here is another good picture of three Does together.
  19. No damage to myself Joey but if the Buck had been leaping through the air just as I hit it he would have come through my windshield and probably killed me.
  20. Nice Water Wolf you caught. Thanks for the report.
  21. great video.
  22. Here is a 9 point I hit a few years back coming home from musky fishing. Damage to truck was $11,500.
  23. For sure Brian. We'll see how the coming week pans out and then make plans.
  24. I finally have a second Buck posing for the camera. A younger 9 point. Those Bucks are still staying nocturnal.
  25. I didn't get my shotgun license so I will be trying to get myself a buck over the weekend with the bow before the blasting starts. Hope to see you get that beautiful chocolate coloured 10 point Brian. Good luck all.
