Potent human toxins prevalent in Canada's freshwaters

link not working..... -
Seems like a pretty good tool to me and are fairly inexpensive to purchase up front (cheap if you follow Roy's line of thinking ), I've seen them quite deeply discounted at Crappy Tire in the last year or so as well. Someone else mentioned the subscription and that's where the cost does go up a bit. Give Les Stroud a call and ask him.....

Once in a lifetime thing that you've seen in the outdoors??

Great thread Dan!!! Some really terrific stories coming out, mine is not about something scary....unless you have a butterfly phobia A little over 20 years ago I was invited to stay for a few days at a cottage on Long Point (north shore of Lake Erie). The three of us went for a walk in the marsh and on the way back came across a Monarch butterfly migration. All the butterflys were landed on the vegetation on either side of the trail and were so thick there was more butterfly than leaves for about a 100m stretch. Not one of us had brough a camera with us and it was getting a bit late in the day so we decided we'd come back the next morning and take pictures. The wind and temperatures must have been perfect for an attempt across the lake because when we went back the next day there wasn't a single Monarch to be found. -
because they couldn't put Cousin*%#$ on a map!!

Perfect. That is what life is all about right there!!!

Great report. Thanks. Been up that way a few times and although haven't fished much when in the area I can attest to the beautiful scenery of the Barron Canyon.

Good to hear we can at least expect to catch a few fish and yeah, figured out that much about the scenery from Google, oh well, a couple trips into Stony ought to spruce things up a bit for the visitors. Thanks!! Dan

Thanks Lew, Headhunter and LiveRelease. This is excellent news.

Well that is certainly unexpected.... and potentially very disappointing....regarding the launch. Not a big deal to drive to Stony but would be nice to not have to all week. Anyone know whether this landowner will provide access to his launch for money? How to contact?

Hi, We have a cottage rental lined up for 3rd week in August to spend some time with family from England. I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if I can boat through from Dummer Lake/White Lake (I think this name is interchangeable??) to Stony Lake @ Gilchrist Bay? The imagery on Google isn't quite high enough resolution to be sure if the waterways are connected and of course no way to tell depth. I have a 14' aluminum as well as canoe and kayak that I plan on bringing. Of course any info. on fishing would be most welcome. Are there musky in Dummer? Thanks in advance. Dan

The info. above is basically correct. It's not that fishing isn't allowed during the weekend but ALL public access isn't allowed during the week. You can however access waters around the park in a boat when launched from a location other than TTP. Harbour Licence is required for operation of pleasure craft. Contact the Toronto Port Authority for specifics on this requirement. Good luck!!

I have a bunch of marine carpet left over from my recent floor rebuild that I'm willing to offer for free to anyone on this thread who might want some relatively small pieces. Located in sw Etobicoke. PM me. Dan

Surface of the moon or.....

I suspect Ryan's theory is correct and that they'll just leave it to create better fish habitat. Possibly it was seen as a potential hazard to boaters if it was leaning and they were just avoiding possible liability issues should the unlikely happen. -
suggestions on a substitute planner board reel(s)

Very nice...... Those are impressive numbers for sure and probably better than what I was thinking, this is it by the way; http://careywinders.com/2.html. Try googling "kite winder" and you'll see some other interesting designs. -

Nice, good old reliable manual work!! I've been thinking about the seat post base routine as well. Don't kite flyers now even have fancy hand over hand winding pulley like devices for easing the burden of retrieving your kite that look to me like they would really work well? -
No permission from owner = no permission.....in my opinion. good luck with your hunt. I didn't see anything on Wednesday but the guys stayed for the afternoon and at least saw something.

I had a concrete floor/pad poured under my existing garage about 8 years ago and after waiting the suggested/required week or so I etched it and painted with an off-the-shelf product (Behr's maybe) from Crappy Tire or Home Depot and it's been great. There was a bit of flaking on the lip that sits outside at first and I was convinced it was all going to flake away and that I'd wasted my time and money but it never happened. My garage is used to store boat, bikes, portable ice hut and I have a workbench etc. so it doesn't get heavily used and doesn't get driven on but the addition of the paint has been very positive, lookwise and for clean-up (haven't had any major spills but oil doesn't penetrate or stain, wipe up with a rag....done). Maybe my results were this good because the concrete was absolutely brand new but I would definitely try again somewhere else down the road should the need arise. My Dad did the epoxy routine and while it does look nice I do find it gets very slippery when wet whereas my floor just from the slight roughness of the concrete doesn't seem to. I didn't use the fleck stuff (can't remember why), it's just straight grey concrete paint but I think you can also get little bits of material to spread on the floor when wet that embeds in and improves grip. Go for it!!

Ya gotta' love the way the world works sometimes. Hopefully for you they've just added your dump site to a list of potential sites in order to prove they've done their due diligence. Sounds like your dump would be an unlikely candidate due to capacity so it's likelt all much ado about nothing. Keep abreast of the process, keep sticking your nose in, keep making your points in calm and reasonable manner and in all likelyhood the process will come to the same conclusion you have. Good luck

Done. Bump. and THANKS RON!!!!....from the future generation of little anglers and the more 'experienced' alike....
-
What, you couldn't lift it out for a real pic??? Just remember no vertical hold....
-
Great fishing. And of all the entertaining posts you've provided over the years this has to be the most warped one ever....love it.
-
Let's just send Ron down there......

My very general comment regarding this purchase would be to buy the unit with the most VERTICAL pixels you can afford and make sure you can turn the Fish ID off...i.e. you want to be able to use the unit in manual mode so you CAN in fact learn how it works. Good luck with your purchase and whatever you end up with should change how you fish.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. Will definitely be checking them out and I can already see some options that haven't been explored yet. Fishlogic - funny that you mention Limberlost, had never heard of it until a couple weeks ago when someone mentioned it during a totally unrelated conversation. Looks like a very interesting place, unfortunately booked for the time we're looking. Dan
