  1. I don't eat the trout so couldn't tell you how tastey it was....but after getting my hands slimed and then having a smoke..well the slime didn't taste so good...maybe it was just because it was cold we will get out really soon and go find us the big ones, we are due for a big number day soon...good mix of fish out there...fresh chrome to ones that have been in the river since fall
  2. I will give a better report later on but...the winds have been ok, and water has been shaping up the last couple days...I will take a drive by the river when i get my daughter from school, and update further
  3. thanks man. just took advantage of getting in some shore fishing the last 2 outings..conditions and weather didn't seem that great so I couldn't be bothered dragging the boat down. Besides I love the hike and adventure of it all, and I had to see if one of my fav spots was putting out fish
  4. I know tonnes of guys who do this..and it's just for a split second immediately after the boat is taken out of the water....just a winter precaution I make...not every time, but when it is so cold out side that stuff flash freezes the instant you take the boat out of the water....everyone has thier own opinions on certain things when it comes to cold weather fishing..alot of people won't even use thier boats in the winter..myself...what ever I am doing ,I must be doing it okay because I have had the boat for 5 1/2 years and haven't had to sink a penny into it for anything besides a new battery for the bowmount this year
  5. good luck catching a small one there if you clean the fat off...cut away the belly meat and part of the meat off the back it is ok..most toxins accumulate in those areas of the fish
  6. nice report Dobee...I hear you guys did really well that day, gotta love the winter fishin...lots of nice fish you guys got into
  7. naaa, I just killed it because I thought it would be fun is this the part where 50 million people tell me that you shouldn't eat the fish???? it went home with my bro-in-law for the smoker...I don't like trout....I think I kept all of about 5-6 lakers in the last 10 years and gave it to people who like it. as for toughing it out for the team..well I owed them one becuase I got a steelie that was way bigger than that laker a couple outings ago and didn't have the logo with me , so I had to get some redemtion in there
  8. I wouldn't get too hung up on the never ending "how much does a fish weigh" argument..I catch a tonne of steelies, and I would consider that a great catch any day
  9. ...and after she is finished cleaning the fish...she likes to sit back and relax with a nice Dickon's Cider
  10. bumping this up so Coach finds it and enters my fish
  11. a fish like that is most likely in the range of 30-35 years old,,that's what i was told by a taxidermist when I got my 52 incher mounted. for the body of water it was caught from has a healthy population so I justified my own choice on keeping my one and only trophy.
  12. Well folks if my calculations are correct then I really redeemed myself today from a couple times of not getting a measurement and logo pic on a nice trout. I told the team I would come up with a few and..guess what..read em weep folks!!! I did Headed down to the river with my friend John for a crack at it again. With all the cruddy weather lately, and forcasted freezing rain and winds for today I decided on leaving the boat home yet again and do another mission to the scene of the crime from Friday. Turned out to be a great idea. Got to the spot at first light after the big hike in, right away fish where surfacing, and the water was alot cleaner than last time and it was actually green. I grinned looked at my buddy and told him it was going to be a good day First fish on for me was a spunky high flying bow, a nice fresh chromer..we got it to the bank, I had it on shore, popped my jig out of it's mouth and it flipped into the water before John could get a pic of it. Oh well I was due for a bigger one anyways, and I got one! a couple pics from the way in.... And finally this shot. next up was some laker action... then out pops this healthy girl and the one that took over 1st for The Slammers!!!! a while later I got one that was also a bit camera shy..had it by the tail, before I could get my bait out of it's yap...flops into the water and gone...that's ok by me, I got pics of the bigs ones..lol finally after being my camera man for a while John gets into one. And for the finally.....34 1/2 inches of Niagara at it's finest well Coach had totals last time from Friday at 295 inches..that was with my 28 1/2 incher added...so if I just added 6 inches to that today...pending the 2 OFAH bonus inches...the way I see it that brings us to 303 inches, and stealing the lead away So if you will GCD..post this one up for us in the tourney section please !
  13. I keep mine down when it's in the driveway..I use mine all winter and never had a probalem yet with freezing..I drain mine good after fishing, and if it's super cold I fire it up for a second too to blow any water out of the tell tale line, that may be in there.....I always change my bottom end oil before it gets too cold, and during the winter on a decent day, I change it again, just to be on the safe side
  14. if you say it's your baby finger affected as well that's definately not carpal tunnel, I had surgery for that on my right hand about 10 years ago...symptoms where anywhere from numbness, and tingling to severe pain from my hand ,wrist all the way up to my elbow. Got it from working in a factory screwing stuff together all day with air tools pretty much, and in general, just too much repetative work. Many tests, trips to the specialist, trips to the neurologist ect...months in physio, then the surgeons ect finally decided that surgery in fact was my best option. As for the baby finger thing, ever since then, before and after the surgery and talking to the specialists it was determined that I had a pinched nerve in my elbow as well that I should have had surgery on already for years but haven't, one day possibly but it hasn't been a huge issue for the most part. The Carpal tunnel surgery was a great success I must say,I have had very little problems after. The only thing it has affected the most is the fact that I lovce to draw and paint ect just as a hobby and ever since I had the surgery I cannot hold a pencil for a long time before it is irritating.
  15. don't worry man, I will join ya in the "non-Lund" gang I got a Legend
  16. Denis I saw that on your board...that's a wicked achievement for you and your dad man!!!!!
  17. some great success stories folks.. for me, my goal for the season was to try to break the 60 incher mark for a musky(that's been my goal for the last 3 years )....well that didn't happen as a matter of fact I didn't even land one this year..last kick at the cat this coming weekend. as for everything else, I am quite happy with my season, I caught tonnes of fish from January until now, and lots of big ones in the mix
  18. I am with Rick on this one...I go steelheading all winter long...super cold days...lots of layers of clothes..so I just fill all my pockets ..if I wear a denim shirt, fill those pockets with cell phne, smokes, camera whatever...then wear a lumber jacket over that, fill those pockets with what couldn't go in my shirt...like wallet or whatever, then my winter jacket or floater coat, fill those pockets with gloves, touque whatever, and then still wind up carrying all my stuff in a tackle bag
  19. as for "non-fishing reports" heck in the last few days there been some hardwater reports, some tribin, some musky fishing, some big river trout fishin....posts on gear, boat questions, some questions on tackle and gear selections, some posts about future fishing plans, hunting,cooking......if that ain't fishin and loving the great out doors I don't know what is , I don't know about much of this "not fishin stuff" I manged to squeeze a few reporst in this last couple weeks
  20. as you can tell I just came on here to score everyones good fishin spots
  21. right now the winds are NW, if it stays that way, the river will clean up pretty good, I was just down there and surprizingly it isn't really much worse than it was a few days ago when it started to stain up..it's not totally chocolate milk put it that way..lol
  22. I hear ya Steve, it' s already goofed up 2 trips in the boat I had planned on the lower,Friday and today, at leats I got a decent shore morning in there the other day. I got tabs on the weather and stuff no probs....river is pretty dirty today, I can see it's brown from my driveway like 2 blocks away
  23. green & cream Legend..I will be there early to clean the ramp if needed.
  24. I was pretty impressed about a week or so ago when for $45 I topped off my boat gas,an extra gas can for the boat I bring for long days, and while I was out I topped off the car since that's what I drove to get the boat gas..I call that a pretty good day
  25. let's hope the river clears up...supposed to be some pretty crappy winds the next couple days..the snow I can live with
