  1. Were you fishing in 50' of water or were you fishing down 50' over 85' of water?
  2. wow, very nice. In your last pic it appears that both you and your twin brother caught big walleyes. Well done to both of you.
  3. Is it possible to catch lakers or whitefish at night through the ice? My gut tells me no, not so much but I thought I would ask. It is hard for me to get out to my hut during the day. I am guessing lakers no chance but maybe whitefish. Anybody ever tried hardwater at night for fish other than walleye?
  4. He goes up the 400. There must be something near Severn. You can get shiners from Simcoe bait and tackle but it is 5 mins off the highway and in Barrie. You can always stop off at that truck stop rest area shop around king city (i know it is south of Barrie but it is right on the highway). It is called fish Ontario. Lots of guys here don't really like his prices though. I have been in teh shop but never bought anything there before.
  5. Very cool indeed. Great pics I hope he is fine. Praying for the doctors when they perform the surgery. I think babies are the best things ever even if they keep us up at night.
  6. Either BBP or Shanty bay or Hawkstone area (all fairly close to you). Try 85-100ft of water. Use a spreader with minnows and a cheater hook about 2 ft up the line as well with a minnow on it in one hole and keep jigging with the williams or a bad boyz jig tipped with a micro tube in a second hole. Keep the spreader on the bottom or very close to bottom and use the jig at various depths. Hope that helps.
  7. According to John Bondy (as stated in bassmaster magazine Dec issue i believe), you should always rig the grub with the tail curling down. It is much less likely to get fouled on the hook. He has some other good tips in there as well with regards to grub fishing.
  8. I agree. They are for the most part ugly as well (except for that one in bewitched). I hate cats as well so I wouldn't even go out on a second date once I found out she was a witch. As far as rods go, I have been fishing more med action with fast tips lately. Mostly 7' med action 1 piece rods. Great for crankbaits, jerkbaits, and spinnerbaits. I also like a 7 ft med action spinning rod for drop shotting and dragging tubes. I like a heavy action rod for fishing in the slop. Most of my rods are MH 6'6 - 7' but I am slowly trying to replace them with medium action sticks.
  9. Nice! Love the pike backdrop.
  10. Hey Rob, if you are going on a weekday I have a little hut in Shanty Bay you could use no probs. It is not great but works. You would need your own heater though.
  11. I have a bachelor of environmental studies from Waterloo. Not sure I 100% agree with all you said but you do make valid points about Gulp. Not only do they bioderade but they also catch fish. win-win situaltion.
  12. link doesn't work for me
  13. As for the original plastics. There are a few plastics there that would not come out on the boat with me but to each their own. You need to get some stick baits for sure. Senkos or Yum dingers or Zeros or any of the stick worms. 4" - 6" sizes are a must. I would also add in a few more tubes in different colours. You do have a good start with some of the grubs but if it were me I would get some other colours, especially black. I would also invest in some hollow belly swim baits. 3.5 - 5" long. I also like gulp alive leaches and minoows but they are kind a special plastic. My primary soft plastics can be narrowed down to 4 types 1- senkos 2- tubes 3- grubs 4- swimbaits I very rarely use any more than those with the exception of soft jerkbaits once in a while. As previously mentioned I also drop shot a lot with gulp alive minnows and leaches.
  14. I looked on the website and that hotmaps premium of Canada covers pretty much all of Canada!! Is that a good one? It is compatible with my GPS and seems to cover just about everything in Canada.
  15. I am looking for the best maps for the areas that I fish. I fish mainly Simcoe but do wander North into Muskoka, and all the way to Nipissing at times. I would also fish parts of kawarthas and Georgian bay as well. Is there a map that includes all these areas? If so which do you recommend? My gps can support navionics, lawrance or pretty much any other sd card. What is the best price? I have seen some for as much as $200 and others for as little as $99 I guess copying the maps from another card would be illegal correct?
  16. How did you cook that herring? Would it be considered pickled already?
  17. Flippin and pitchin is done much more effectively with a baitcaster. Especially when you are pitchin to structure where you need to be accurate (sometimes you only get one shot). It is hard to accuratly pitch a spinning reel and stopping the line slowly. Not nearly as accurate and the lure will often hit the water much harder which in some situation is not beneficial. Generally speeking baitcasting reels have much smoother drag systems than spinning rods as well.
  18. I will be out there. I live in Barrie and my hut is in Shanty bay. I would offer you a spot in it but my fishing partner is coming out.
  19. $50 bucks a month. I am on a budget. I recently bought a nice im6 rod and reel for $24. Also bought a one piece im6 7' heavy casting rod for $19.99. So far this year I have spent about $50 since Christmas. Need to save next month though for the BPS spring sale.
  20. I have a hut that does not have great ventilation. It is a 2 man hut and I have a kerosene heater. Is there a definate risk in using this type of a heater. The heater is older but it really pumps out the heat. I sat in it for a good while tonight in my garage to see if there would be an effect. I didn't fall asleep lol. The fumes stink but I heard that the longer it runs the more efficiently it burns (as long as there is new oxygen present). I am not sure if I am high typing this but I still smell the fumes. They are in my clothes. I think I taste them too. Maybe I just answered my post. Probably not a good source of safe heat.
  21. You can fish off the beach. Go early before all the people or find a quiet part. Get a rig from a local fish store and about 3 ounces for weight. Use shrimp for bait. You will get pampano and a bunch of other stuff. As soon as you see the dolphins you might as well leave because the fish will. You can try fishing 3 rods at once. In the lakes within the track at the daytona raceway there are lots of bass but good luck getting on them.
  22. My bad. sorry. I really should read before I post. Thanks
  23. It was edited after my post. No probs just wanted to make sure that is all. The first time I read it, it sounded like there was only 2 guys.
  24. nice fish. Kept 5 lakers? How many of you were fishing. More than 2 right?
  25. There is a joke here but I am going to leave it alone.
