  1. Yeah I remember there being more pike in the bay and catching them not too far from what is now the South Shore Center. Having said that we caught a 32" 3 summers ago trolling 15ft down in 25 ft of water.
  2. Very cool. Why is it that we never catch smallies by accident on Simcoe in the winter? Maybe people do but I have never seen it. Would be interesting to hear if people do. They must.
  3. I have lived both in Edmonton and Winnipeg and found them to be the best fishing outfit west of Ontario. I bought my last baitcast reel from them and I couldn't come close to their price here in Ontario. It was a fishing show sale but they know their stuff.
  4. Bass????
  5. Don't know if you are interested but THe bay in Barrie is still open. Big smallmouth only 50 - 100 yards off the shore and the waves will not be an issue.
  6. I kind of liked the "cannonball!"
  7. Anyone using Salmo's chubby darter? If so where can I purchase one other than Cabela's?
  8. Yep, How could you tell? lol. Everything after the first Barrie is without my parents though.

  10. look below
  11. Oh I have got them. Guess I needed to know where the Boyne was. I didn't really word the question properly and I mistook the mad river for the Boyne so it seemed like a huge area that was C and R fish. I mapquested the boyne river but the actual river doesn't show up on the map, only a boyne river rd. So I believe the Boyne is South of 89 so if I fish in Flos township I don't think there are any 'no fishing areas'. Just wanted to be sure. C an R is only between Boyne and Pine but I am pretty sure where I am looking is good. I beleive I am looking to fish between the pine and Wasaga beach somewhere. Just didn't want to break any laws. Thanks
  12. Is there anywaher on the Nottawasaga river that I am currently not allowed to fish? I haven't seen many reports on Nottawasaga with regards to rainbows. Are there any in there?
  13. Diversity. Nice
  14. Are you kidding me? Wow!
  15. Woo Hoo! Nice fish! You are from Hull? Not Gatineau?
  16. If you plan on downrigging for salmon then you can use a baitcaster, but go for a bigger model that holds more line. You will also have to change your stiffer 6'6" - 7' baitcasting rod for a 8'6" - 10' rigger rod. Shimanos are always good but I also have 2 Abu Garcias that hold lots of line and I have a quantum PT tour edition which is very smooth as well. My daiwa is a very good reel as well.
  17. Baitcasters - Heavier conditions - throwing heavy lures - Throwing into heavy cover using heavier rods and lines. Baitcasters are easier to pitch or flip near docks and structure where you have the stop the lure quickly and smoothly. Baitcasters are quicker to cast with. no bail to flip over (just push button and thumb spool). Baitcasters generally have smoother drag systems as well. Spinning - Better with light line and finnesse fishing often with lighter rods. No threat of birdsnest with light lures. Spinning reels good for throwing into wind. Spinning reels easier to learn on without the threat of serious birdsnests for beginners. I have 6 baitcasting and 6 spinning reels. I have found myself finness fishing more lately so I have been using the spinning rods more. Really depends on the fish. No way are you going to get a 5 pounds LM out of the pads with a medium 6'6" spinning rod with 8 pound test. I use my 7' heavy rod with baitcasting reel loaded with 30 pound power pro. No way am going to drop shot on Simcoe with that same 7' heavy rod with baitcasting reel loaded with 30 pound power pro.
  18. Fished from 9 pm until 11 pm. Only caught a bunch of perch. Lots of them there that is for sure. Oh well, still got out fishing.
  19. I work in Penetang. I saw today that there was a thin layer of ice on it but by no means unusable. Last week end a buddy of caught a 16 pound eye in the bay. Good fish there right now
  20. Nice fish. Especially from shore. I once read a bumper stick about a cat. It read "Looking for your cat? Check under my tires"
  21. I know but if I catch a perch and reel him in really really slowly... lol. Just kidding. I bought a dozen medium minnow at Simcoe bait and Tackle at 4:45 this evening before they closed (she actually gave me about 18). You are more than welcome to come. I will be out there at about 9 pm. It will be like ice fishing but without the ice.
  22. lol! Yep A couple of tens recently from the shore. THey are crushing smaller perch when the perch is caught and refuse to let go. I am on my way out there tonight. Should be nice and cold but I don't care.
  23. So what I understand is that I can keep a total of 4 walleye with one being over 18.1" . That is cool so there is no real slot walleye that have to be thrown back unless you already have one over 18.1"
  24. is there a slot size for Lake Simcoe Walleye? I want to fish for them tonight and was just wondering.
  25. Why do we take a pee? or Take a dump? Don't we leave those things, not take them?
