  1. On Kijiji Ontario, I just saw a new in box Shimano Tranx (top notch quality Musky reel) for $250....and also a St.Croix Premier Musky rod for $175.
  2. Palomar Knot for heavy braid to O ring. Yes....return to the spot at dusk or early morning or under different weather conditions. Also try another presentation....glide or jerk bait...or big rubber like BullDawg or Medussa or Red October Tube...and of course sometimes just a colour change I just picked up a St Croix Musky Mojo rod and Lexa 400 reel (like I really need another outfit, but that's part of the addiction) for $600. Not the cheapest choice, but good value...and you can certainly spend a lot more..Especially with Musky gear, I find spending a little more for quality will serve you better in the long run...because you will quickly be unsatisfied with something really cheap
  3. Try around the rock piles and string of little islands on the west end of Green Island....lots of Smallies. Drop shot and Ned Rig in natural colours. Expect some bite-offs from the hammer-handles.
  4. This is first thing that came up on Google...330 yds of 30lb braid, so 200 yds or so of 65 lb. Muskies don't make long sustained runs, so it's not like you need a lot of capacity....you're probably better to load up with 80lb. I'm not sure how long that reel will last...throwing big Musky baits takes it toll on your reel (and your shoulder !). When you're ready to move up, take a look at a Tranx or a Lexa. https://hottackle.com.au/product/abu-garcia-ambassadeur-reel-classic-red-6000/
  5. I saw these for $67...good investment, always handy to have a good set of cutters around the house... https://www.amazon.ca/Cobolt-Leverage-Compact-Cut-Notched-Blade/dp/B000X4J20C/ref=asc_df_B000X4J20C/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=292999463894&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11857445598706888097&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9000653&hvtargid=pla-503991057047&psc=1
  6. Description says only good for non-ferrous metals...mild steel at best. Hooks are generally hardened carbon steel. For $14.99, I wouldn't expect much. It's not only important to have a good set of cutters for the health of the fish...it's also important for you or someone else on the boat. If you get stuck by a hook from a thrashing Musky, and have to cut off the point of a 7/0 3X hook...you'll quickly regret having sub-par tools. Been there, done that...have the scars to show for it... Btw, those Crappy Tire special Red Wolf cutters are useless... Unfortunately, Musky fishing doesn't come cheap...keep an eye out on Kijiji or FB Marketplace for someone selling their used gear...that's about the only way to keep the price down
  7. Lithium is not really great as a starter battery. Lithium is better as a deep cycle for your trolling motor. Do you plan to use the dual purpose for your trolling motor too ?
  8. Lake St. Clair for numbers..
  9. They've started on Lake O too....already over 700 have passed through Corbett's. They always start early up your way. I remember back in 2012 we were getting chrome Chinnies at Montgomery's in July...that was a weird year. Best of luck tomorrow..Get 'em while they're fresh !
  10. Tough to narrow it to 5... Suick Top Raider Double CowGirls Jake Bull Dawg
  11. The Nautilus AGM's are on sale at CT right now . Will last longer than lead-acid, lower self discharge rate, faster charging, more cycles, no maintenance and longer warranty. Like a lot of things, you get what you pay for..
  12. Looks awesome...I do a half maple syrup, half whiskey drizzle as they smoke.. I thought the season has been going strong since April...lol. Good year on G Bay this summer...nice to see the numbers bounce back. The tourney had over 1500 fish entered this year.
  13. I saw this... https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1519560922181685/?mibextid=dXMIcH
  14. I'd go with an AGM type battery for the starter. Lots of advantages over a traditional lead-acid. You can buy them at CT.
  15. Yeah, I'm not a fan of smoking frozen meat either. I get mine from a little local butcher up here...a full brisket will run 18 to 20 lbs...that's a lot of meat and about a 20 hour smoke. If you get a half (most stores will cut them for you), I prefer the "point" half, as opposed to the "flat". The "point" has more fat and cooks up juicier when you're doing a smaller one. Happy August Long Weekend (or whatever they call it these days) !
  16. You got a nice bark on it...I'm always first in line for burnt ends..mmmm I find smoking at 200f reduces the shrinkage. I also keep it spritzed every little while with a mixture of half apple juice/half apple cider.
  17. It's looks like a great day for smoking ! I've got a half brisket going since 6am in the Traeger...tuxedo/ Mustard rub and mesquite/cherry smoke. Later I'm doing some Peri-Peri chickens in the wood burning oven. Got 19 people over for a beach party this afternoon...tubing, wake boarding, and SeaDoos.

  19. Just to clarify...you can download the Navionics app to your phone....you don't even need a sonar unit.
  20. Just download Navionics, if you don't have it on your sonar...
  21. Do you have Navionics or a hydrographic chart ? Lots of sunken humps and reefs surrounded by deeper water on Cameron. That's where I'd start.
  22. One of my favourite Laker set ups is running a "peanut lure" (like a mini KwikFish) 30" behind a 6" Williams Whitefish (as opposed to a full-size dodger or cow bells). It trolls nicely at 1.5 mph. Also a Rapala J-11 or J-13 trolls effectively at slow speeds.
  23. I don't think it's more than 20 from the window...lol I'll bide my time...but for now it's fun harassing them with the pellet rifle...didn't know they could jump that high...hehe
  24. No...it's my math that's bad...but still a nice long soak. That's a lean cut so it needs some help. Believe me, just another few months and Bambi is destined for the dinner plate..
