My buddy and I are also planning to fish out of Port D later in the week. Right now, it's hard to tear myself off the rivers...I just wish they'd finish doing the wild thing and get off the redds, so I can fish where I can't see them (that green water)...plus need another day or two for the Fiddleheads to poke through..

At my place in Central Frontenac my propane powered Generac kicks in for a bit at least 3 or 4 times a year. The way they've strung the hydro lines through the bush, and eastern Ontario being a magnet for ice storms makes back up power a necessity. Yeah, ice storm of '98 it took Hydro 23 days to restore power my previous place on the lake.

Orillia Perch Festival kicks off this weekend. There'll be a pack of boats out from Atherly Narrows...they're usually catchin' more than a sun tan..

I think it's a take on "Cabbage Dragon" which is common moniker for Musky in NW Ontario.

I find that "roughing" up the ball and socket on the Ram mounts with 80 grit sandpaper helps keep them in place.

You can't beat late July/early August anywhere in the GTA...Scarborough Bluffs, Toronto Islands, Mimico, Port Credit, and Bronte . From my experience, the south shore (Grimsby, St. Catharines, Niagara) is best late April to early June. Smitty55 is right on...I have several buddies that move their charters from Port Dalhousie/Weller in the spring to Bronte/Credit for the summer. That being said, anywhere on the lake all summer long will always produce some fish. Just keep in mind that often by late August/early September they start thinking more about spawning than eating.

Fishing for spring and early summer Walleye on the BOQ, we'd regularly hook up with some big Cats. Best spot seemed to be the mouth of the Napanee River right underneath the hydro lines. We'd catch them dragging worm harnesses, but I imagine cut bait would be the way to go if you wanted to specifically target them.. I've also seen them come out of the plunge pool below Dam #1 in Trenton.

Another couple of weeks and it should be time for my highlight of spring.. Fresh Trout with Fiddleheads, Morels and Wild Leeks...

From what I see out in the market...any unit that has SI also has DI. A lot of units are only DI, but I'm not aware of any units that are only SI. Perhaps someone can correct me. Personally, I use SI all the time, but it's not a necessity. DI is a must have...there are a lot situations where I want to know exactly what's directly underneath the boat.

I have a 2016 Honda Pilot AWD that I bought brand new that now has 356k km on the odometer. I regularly tow several boats with it including a 19ft I/O fiberglass bowrider that has a total weight of approximately 4000lbs. Never had a single issue with it. It's been absolutely flawless. Other than a couple of sets of all-season and winter tires, 2 batteries, and several brake jobs...I have not spent a penny on it other than routine maintenance. People still comment on how nicely it rides, and how squeak and rattle free it is even with all these miles on it. Highly recommend the Pilot. Also look at the Passport...exact same vehicle except doesn't have the 3rd row seats. In fact, as soon as Honda releases it in Canada in the next few weeks, I'm buying a new Passport Trailsport.

Substantial areas of open water up here in Central Frontenac. Another week or two at most before it's gone. It's usually a good blow from the south-west that finally does it..

Are you referring to the Ford Bronco Sport ? Which is basically a Ford Escape made to look a little more rugged. It's unibody construction, with a 2000lb tow capacity. The larger Ford Bronco is a body on frame vehicle with a 3500lb capacity. It's the same platform as the Ranger pick up truck, and you can get it with a 3 litre turbo V6 My nephew has the Sport, and he tows a single SeaDoo with it. It does fine...but he says he wouldn't tow anything much more than that. He says the 1.5 litre engine struggles at the best of times. The other thing to keep in mind is the length of the wheelbase. It's pretty short on the Sport. With a 16 ft boat and trailer, you might run into a tail wagging the dog scenario.

A few years back, when Yes were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Rick (who seemed a little "over refreshed" from the celebrations) told a joke during his acceptance speech, that's always stuck with me: "Now that I'm an older man I had to go the doctor's for a Prostate exam. Yep...I was a Junior Ranger 49 years ago. My son 22 yeas ago...it spurred him to get a Masters Degree in Environmental Science. I hope the program's still around for my grandkids in a few years..

Kicker for strolling or moping ? We generally use the bow mount for those presentations...but, yeah, the line between trolling/strolling/moping/bottom bouncing/drop shot/etc is pretty blurry.. As mostly a Bass and Musky guy, I prefer to cast. However, after a morning of flinging half-pound lures with a 9 ft broomstick and a winch, by lunch time I often turn to my partner and say" how 'bout we troll for a while"..
