Live bait was our fav 30 years plus ago ( worms and frogs ) Picked the dew worms a night or two before and stoped along the way to see if we could catch a few frogs for them bass. Havn;t used live bait ( except for perch, walleye) for years! Still have my dad's old metal tackle box , lots of good memories there , dusty roads ,leaky wooden rental boats and the occaisional outboard fire ! In the mis 70'3 we 'upgraded ' to a 14 ' fibreglass my dad found on a creek , hauled it out, patched and painted her and it became 'our' boat for the next few years Heavy as hell but stable. Used to trailer it on a snowmobile trailer with an old tire under the keel .One of our backroad excursions had the tire flying off and headed down an embankment towards some coattages . Luckily the trees stopped it just short of the cabin . Thanks for stirring up those memories. TB

two girls towed to your dock ! Luck of the Irish ! Battery was cleaned and lubed before it was put in the boat , Cables were connected to the larger solid posts( not the threaded ones where the cables connect ) I though even if the battery was fried the van battery (via booster cables ) would have done it . tb

tried booster cables this morning still nothing . may try the hammer method tonight if still nothing I'll yank the battery and get it check at CTC . Thanks for all the advise TB

Gotta go with Pike .The ferocious boat side hits are amazing . Would like to say Muskie , but gotta catch one first ! TB

all connections tight ,clean and connected . Think I'll try boosting with the car tonight and see if it'll turn over , if so guess its the battery . Kinda disapointing as I thought I did everything right , stored in cool temps , topped up during winter etc . Was hopping to get more than two years life. TB

dragged the boat home last week , Started set up late sunday . Main (cranking battery) runs lights , trim ( although up seem slower than I remember) but wouldn't start motor just a 'CLICK ' Hooked up battery charger for an hour or so , guage read fully charged , still just the click . Had topped up the batteries three times during the winter and kept in a cool ( above freezing) garage. Boat was winterized last fall All fuses checked AOK . do you think its the battery and can I boost with the car ? If not most likely will have to haul it to the shop as that about the extent of my knowledge. Any help appreciated 2006 , 90 hp 4 stk merc TB

cool shots .. and too bad they can't be added to team 5's tally! TB -
Gerritt I would agree ,thats why I've been posting them ( althought haven't seen a single fish yet !) Maybe all this sitting around NOT fishing is gettin to me . TB

just wondering if you think its a good or bad idea when we post when fish are spawning in specific areas ( as per my recent updates at Coboconk) can't help but think theres a lurker out there just waiting to hear when the spawn is on and how they can get away with some OS fish. I know it may be considered common knowledge but can't help thinkin that I may be making it way to easy for someone too lazy to get off there arse to find out themselves but enough of a jerk ( putting it mildly) to take advantage of the situation . thoughts ? TB

Drove past the narrows on Sunday on the way to pick up the boat from storage still lots of 'white ' ice .I think the first week end of the perch fest will be a bit of a bust as far as boat access will be .Can't see any open water from the public launch across from the park. Open water is just past the last marina on the south side ( as viewed from the bridge) Boat survived the winter with no damage . found 4 rods in the rod locker and one of Pikeie s handmade bucktails hanging off the console , luckily the mice didn't find them .Mothballs seemed to do the trick Got her home , washed up and sitting in the drive way . Spring is now officially here . Stopped by Trombley's on the way home .Picked up a nice little Cardinal (C302)reel for $48 ( after 20% off) and $9 discontinued Mitchel reel ,for $9 couldn't resist Store was packed .Talked to one of the reps I know and apparently fri sat was worse . TB

My son's got one and has wore it ALOT ove rthe last two years . Other than slicing the shin with an auger blade ,no issues. Biot lat eprobably but I think Trombley's in Orillia had them for $199 this past weekend . Not sure of selection or if the sales still on. TB

Pikeie and I were back at Coboconk on Sat night . Even higher flows with the 4 centre sections of the dam wide open . Downstream water levels looked to be at least a foot higher. No spawning walleys seen , although visibility was next to zero with the flow. BTW If any one is missing about a 8' x 30' dock its jammed in the dam at Coboconk Next visit - mid week TB APRIL 15 - STILL NO FISH ,this is starting to get boring ! Anther dock has appeared though .

look for some larger pools they are easy to spot ,and a jig head /worms are perfect. Not much of a science to it . we use ultralights for the fun . TB
