Heres a story for you... when Avery was 3 years old I took him quite far in the bush, camping on this little lake trout lake I had heard about, and we camped out on an island.... we fished lakers for a couple hours before dark, and not a bite... Back to the island we go, and as its getting darker we notice that along the rock shore there are HUNDREDS of small rock bass milling about, I had a few worms and we put a small hook on his line and a piece of worm and he starts hauling in the 2-4 inch rock bass with little problem.. and he was DETERMINED we were gonna eat them... we kept a dozen or so and I was trying to figure out how to eat them... to small to fillet... so I tried a trick I used on small brook trout before... I gutted them, l cleaned out the cavity well.. and put them on a stick like a hot dog, going through the mouth then the cavity, finally sticking the pointy end of sick into the tail.... Due to gravity the fish will hang upside down and you can cook it over the open fire with the scales on the outside.... OK this is the neat part.... as the fish cooks, the cavity opens up and curls back, so once done you can just pick the meat outta the fish, bone free... finger licking good. I was TOTALLY surprised at how good the fish was... it was a nice clean clear trout lake, and we must have spent an hour cooking these fish over the fire... I have to say its one of the fondest memories I have with him fishing. I do also remember how he got me up as the sun came up to go get some more........ uhhggg (any one who knows me, knows I'm not a particularly happy early riser, which explains my tendency to love to troll for pike midday... lol).

Oh ya last years winner... and I think the trophys gonna get bigger this year.. Rick had to add an extra tier... and Ive heard.. hes had his NAME Preprinted as this years winner... that can't be right!!

Every year on Saturday, I put on a Pike Tourney from noon to 3 pm. Everyone gets to measure in their best three fish, and I add an inch if they arrive alive.. at around 4 o'clock we gather in the tenting area and we announce the winners.. The winners get to choose a prize pack from the table. and every year I have had enough prizes so that everyone who enters gets a pick at the table. In the past couple of years, people have started to bring a prize to put on the table to help me with gathering up all the loot. Its tough for me to find stuff for that many people, so if you can bring something, its always appreciated. ALSO.... after we have the prizes, i get cooking the fish of the fish fry, I supply all the plates and napkins, and cutlery, and the fish batter, but if you can bring a salad or something to add to the FOOD table that would be awesome! I had that custom done for $3700 or so at Canadian Can Tex. Its got extra windows and a huge screen at the back,. The wood for the floor and blocks were about $1500. So I managed to put a 16x20 camp with a 12 foot porch and a good floor in for a bit over 5K. Far less than the cost of a cottage... also getting windows etc in there would be a pain. http://www.can-tex.com/ Also I have a fabrene tarp over it .. ( http://www.fabrene.com/ )the canvas never gets wet... should last honestly 20 plus years..... Both Companies are in the North Bay, and Cantex made the tarp from Fabrene Material. The smaller green tent I got from a fly in outfitter, and it came with a prefab frame... its been standing at Camp for 3 years now, and I know that the outfitter used it for at least 15 years. I will say that anything below -10C, the big one is hard to heat.... (why I put the oil stove in....) I've spent a few -15 nites in it, and I'm glad I have a 5-star sleeping bag!!!!
