That is indeed a good one

Pretty much catch and release. On one of our trips for bass, we'll keep 2 to have a fish fry. Other than these couple, everything else is released. Of course .. the Lakair fish fry and derby may be a bit of a different story. As I was skunked for both ... my routine stands firm. (Just you all wait until next year).

Very, Veery Nice ... you got me beat by 4 inches. Keep on trying ... maybe we'll both hit the 50" club this year. Congrats to you on your catch, landing, and a good release.

Beauty Clive. You'll find lots of fisher-folks on here and we all love to see pics of the catches and some great scenery shots. I'm sure we'd all love to hear more about your adventures and fishing success. Post away my friend and it's great to have you on the board.

I always use a leader when targeting Pike or Musky. I've gone to 2 Ft. Flouro for casting and 3 Ft. for trolling. I started out using a 12" leader and my wife lost her very first musky because the fish nicked the line. (She's still waiting for her first one). I'll let out the words that were said, but after that, I've gone a bit longer. Don't risk losing a good fish ... use a leader if you are specifically targeting these species. It's good too to lessen the chances of a line breaking and a fish swimming off with a bunch of hooks still embedded. Good post and you'll get a lot of good responses.

Ain't no stopping you now Ken. Go get 'em and send back those pics.

Very good reminder for all of us. I too check over the tires and make sure the tire pressures are corret before heading out. That includes the boat trailer and the towing vehicle.

Attaboy Matt. Looks great and crongrats to ya !!

Thanks guys. The difference in price is not that relevant. I just didn't want to spend the extra if there would be no real benefit. But who knows ... the fishing I am doing today, may not be the same as I'll be doing tomorrow. Probably just go ahead with the 50/200 and I'll have it ... if I need it. Appreciate all the input.

Appreciate it Art. If all goes according to plan, I'll have it for Lakair next year (Probably end up being a Christmas present ... hint, hint, hint). I hope the better half sees this post.

Welcome aboard English. Maybe some day you'll be able to make a few casts on this side of the pond. Lots of great fishing in Ontario. Being from the US, I'm able to spend a few weeks each year up North and just love it. When you get some time, post some pics of where you are. I'm sure we'd all love to see some adventures from the other side of the 'big pond'. Again ... welcome aboard my friend.

Very nice report Mike. Lost Lake sure does look like a quit place to get away and do a little fishing. Glad ya had a great time.

If they ever make a red one Glen ... you're screwed.

We'll after seeing all the Sonar/GPS units everyone had at Lakair this year, and their value on the water, it's time for me to replace the old Hummingbird fish-finder with something new. After looking around, I am considering the Lowrance LCX-28C HD Sonar/GPS unit. (Thanks Art for pointing me to Tiger GPS). Already have Map Create 6 for Canada and looking to also purchase the Navionics Hot Maps Premium 2007 for Canada (so I can get Nipissing). Both of these, I can use in this unit. What I'm trying to decide is ... would the 50/200 Khz or the 200 kHz model be better ? From what I have read to this point, the 50/200 model would work best for salt water or very deep water ... neither of which I presently fish. It is rare that I ever cross an area that exceeds 100 feet deep. The price difference is only about $55.00 US between the two units, so it's not that much. But - I do have to watch the budget. Thanks folks.

I started using them last year and really like them. Most of the pike that I caught at Lakair this year, while casting, was on the slopmaster. Tuesday of that week, I pulled 4 pike from the weedbed just off the dock in about an hour. I have 3 of the char/char, but may look at picking up a few other color combos for next year.

Thanks Lew. I've only fished a few places in Ontario, as I return to the same places year after year. That being said, I don't have a wide variety of knowledge as many on here do. BUT - once in a while a question is asked about a place that I have fished, and I'll jump at that chance and give whatever help I can. I mentioned a couple specific places, but it's my way of seizing an opportunity to help others, just as I have been helped by many of my friends here.

Nice intro Derek and welcome.

I've not stayed at the FRL, but have stopped by there a few times. In years past, I have stayed at Brear's Den Lodge, just a few miles from where you will be staying. Once you leave Hartley Bay Marina, on the right-hand side, you'll pass BDL. I have mainly fished for pike in the Wanipatae Bay, which you will boat through. We primarily focused around rocky points and weed beds around the islands. We had some good success on spoons as Big Cliff stated above. My PB pike came from this area and measured in at 37 1/2. I caught her burning a spinner bait through the weeds. I typically add a 6" twister tail to the spinner for a little something extra. On the day following my PB, my step-son landed a 37" Pike just a couple islands away, also in a weed-bed that ran the length of the island. As you head down the channel, past Bear's Den, you will make left and head towards FRL. If you would continue straight, you'll immediately see a series of about three long islands on your left. This is where I did a lot of my fishing. You'll go a little further and make another left to head through the 'S' Curves on your way to FRL. Just before you make this final left turn, look over to your right and you 'll see a little bay. There is a nice weed-bed in there and that is where I caught my PB. Good luck and post some pics when you get back.

Great to meet you folks and spend the time with you. Enjoyed seeing the pics from all three parts. Even my wife has enjoyed reading the posts from everyone and viewing all the pics. I think she just wants to know what all I did up there. Next year ... she'll find out for herself.

Great words of wisdom Joey ... I'll keep them in mind. Thanks folks.

Well we got the best neighbors to the north Roy. I'm soon to be getting ready for a big family picnic at a cabin in the mountains today. Cook out, lots of food, hiking, and lots of good stuff planned for the day. Dang - on the road for work tomorrow. 10 days to Ontario Fishing Trip #2 for some bass.

I'll second the congrats on Sugarpacket's PB. Seems there are quite a few PB's this year, so we'll see who else's record falls. Congrats again.

It sure was nice meeting all of you and for the opportunity to share your boat a few times was greatly appreciated. I really enjoyed our time together and say Hi to Tyler from me as well. I've already put in a request for a cabin for next year's get-together and my better half will be coming along. As far as our dog, the lumps in her neck have responded well to the antibiotics and they are just about gone, which is really good news. We'll have both of our dogs along next time and they can play with digger and Kea. Take care folks and hope to see you all next year.

From the looks of those girls .. I would have thought you were fishing in Florida. Great fish !

Congrats on the PB Mark. I just love top-water fishing.
