Not sure what that's supposed to mean

I've always wondered what makes one area better for muskie than others and why populations flourish in certain area and with bigger average fish size. Well it's well known that Lake of 2 mountains and Lac St.Pierre and St. Francis are some of the best with big fish stories coming from there all the time. It's also well know that some local guides do extreamly well on these waters that make muskie fishing look easy. I was also wondering if there would be any interest in having a 3 day muskie "outing" in these areas with a small entry fee and 100% payout. There are lots of hotels and places to stay. Maps could be handed out and marked up with potential spots of interest. Having seen all the Muskie guides and their tv shows has raised my interest in going to try it out for a weekend. All the big name guides have done countless shows and I have seen some big fish from them promoting the fishery. Make it a weekend outing and set up a blog to show results and post pics of the fish. I was thinking sometime in September. Is this something anyone from here would be interested in?

Trolling with an 8' med-heavy fast action muskie/salmon rod with a 400 + series line counter reel would do fine. I have a Tekota 600lc on a 7'10" rod and it works like a charm altought a longer rod is better for downrigging imo.

were to get worms downtown ottawa for fishing
muskymatt replied to justin-salmon's topic in General Discussion
Not sure about right down town having worms but Le Baron is west Ottawa and has them, Oziles http://www.oziles.com/ has them east end, and I'm pretty sure any Canadian tire has them. Welcome to Ottawa!! -
Been using pp for years... From 100lb on trolling for muskies to 80lb casting skis, 50lb and 30lb on slop rods for bass ,25lb on laker rods to 15-20lb on spinning and 10-12lb on the kids rods and never had a problem. Even after turning it over on the reel it still preforms royally. I have in the past checked guides and had broken ones barely noticable and proptly had them fixed...usually go trough 1/2 dozen guides a year. That siad I heard there was some blackmarket pp floating around. Has anyone else heard of this?

Yeah everyone dumps on LB's....blah blah blah.....what do you expect, a red freeking carpet and several bikini clad babes to help you with your purchase? Bottom line is they have lots of stock and where can you get someone to match their prices and be right in the middle of the city? Do a little research on your proposed purchase and then you won't have to rely on a salesperson...it's not rocket science...but if you ask you will get what you need. Personally I have had nothing but positive experiences and know the manager well and most of the staff and contrary to some opinion they are decent folks who care about the customers. Bits and baits, bennets, paddletales all offer fishing gear and such so you do have a choice...so take it and be prepared to spend more. I visit Gord at B&Baits once in a while and always make a purchase because they have some stuff lb's doesn't. IMO if you need to have your ego stroked while making a simple reel or rod or bait purchase then no one will satisfy your needs. Ottawa would greatly miss the services of Lebarons so be careful what you ask/wish for. On the other hand give your money to the americans through BP and you can't even order through the Canadian outlets without it coming from the States.....whatever!!!

I've got a '99 ficht 115 and have had it since 2004. Other that regular maintenance and the odd expected part upgrade I can't complain how it has lasted. My mechanic tells me it has high hrs but I take care of it and have a kicker so I am able to keep the hrs minimal from here on in. It purrs like a kitten , has great hole shot and is quiet and great on gas...that said they do have a reputation to pop with high hrs if not taken care of. But for an 11 year old engine with almost 4500 hrs I guess it has lasted pretty well. I do plan on upgrading next year to an etech....which I would have done this year if my piece of junk trailblazer hadnt run me for 6k of repairs since December 09.

What section you on? I fish the Ottawa but not for Northerns before muskie opens. I know there's some bigger pike up near allumet area. I have caught incidental northers while fishing muskie, the biggest being around 8-10 lbs.

That's because they are either not married or have no kids...employment unknown...that said they sure as hell know how to fish and have the passion to drive them...Rob is an ambassador in his own right and anyone who get the opportunity to tag along with him is a lucky angler. Great report guys

It's all relative...you'll be happy when your motor is reliable and purrs like a kitten on the water. Be preventative and also prepared to spend 15% of the boats worth on maintenance annually(at least). You wanna play ....you gotta pay!
-
Yup ,,,and not just the trips... Everytime I find myself with boat in tow headed to my favorite muskie haunts the same thing happens...

Ya but you only have a 90 Dax...Lew has a 150...case closed...!!!
