Anyone have any experience with Ultracraft boats?
F7Firecat replied to F7Firecat's topic in General Discussion
no one own one of these things???????? -
I am looking at new boats, I have come across a 178 Ultracraft with a full windshield. They are made by Misty River, and very well priced. It has a Double hull, and all thickness are thicker than a Alumacraft I have been looking at. Looks like a very solid durable boat. Just wondering if anyone has an experience with these boats. Will come with a 115 ETEC. thanks Bryan

I have had a 149 Legend tinner for 12 years now. Put alot of time in my boat, cant say I am disapointed in it, its been a very good bought honestly. For the amount of money I paid for it I have definitely got my money from it. I originally bought it without a motor and put my own on it, I didnt like dickering with the salesman over the upgrades. Over time the hull has started to leak a bit and rivets pop but show me a boat that does not do that, plus I regularly use this boat on Lake Erie and Lake Ontario, so its not like it has been babied in the Kawarthas. I am looking to upgrade very soon and can say I probably wont be buying a Legend. Resons why??? I really dont know, I just think it is time for a change... Bryan

sand it up real good and put a couple layers of fiberglass on it

JBs has always done good by me. I dont even look elsewhere for muskie stuff. They have the best selection around. I will drive from Hamilton to JBs because they always have what I want. try to find that in Hamilton.......good luck. Its muskie stuff, its not cheap. Couple bucks here or there really doesnt matter in my mind when I can find what I want when I want and with what colour I want. Sorry you had a bad experience. Bryan

The Bay is not for the faint hearted, if you like to fish for a week with no muskies then it is the place for you. Honestly try the Kawarthas and build yourself up with confidence to fish the bay as you will definitely need it. Other than that congrats on the addiction, have fun and dont break the bank. LOL Bryan

What is the best way to handle big pike or musky?
F7Firecat replied to bassfighter's topic in General Discussion
Get yourself a nice big net. Beckman,Stowmaster etc. Get it in the net, let the fish calm down it will not die in a big net, let it recuperate and let yourself do the same. Make sure you have the right equipment Cutters (knipex are nice) Needle nose long and short jaw spreaders whatever else you think you need Take your time, if you give the fish the time it will calm down, but do watch out for the little snot rockets they can be dangerous believe me I know!! I have landed a few muskies and pike in cradles and bending over with a 40 incher just a few inches from your face with a mouthfull of trebles is not my idea of fun. The wfiey got me a stwomaster a few years ago and I will never usea cradle again. A cradle is probably only good to help revive a fish that is stressed and not staying upright by itself very good, even in a big net you can help hold it upright. A big net, along with the proper release tools its the best thing you can do for angler and fish. -

Hey guys, I got a GPS, ever try to motor up slowly with the electric to fish a small spot. The weed spot was small so I threw out markers so I could fish them the next morning bright and early, same with the mid lake shoal. Like I said I could give a poop about the markers its the fact that there are asshats out there who would take them, or shall I say Bottom feeders, thats what I said BOTTOMFEEDERS! If they ended up in your prop well....... I guess you werent looking where you were going pretty typical of pleasure boaters on Gloucester though.

Well I spent last weekend on the Pool for musky opener. I threw out a few orange buoy markers, one was marking an isolated weed patch which there werent many of and one a main basin shoal shoal. Anyway come back then next day they are still there, come back on Sunday night they are gone. what the heck if people are that cheap that they need to take buoy markers the fishing world is in bad shape. Its not the fact that they cost 5 bucks total or so it the whole morals thing going on here. Not to mention I was probably doing them a favour marking these two areas so they could fish. Just need to get it off my chest! Just hoping it wasnt an OFNER, if it was shame on you! Bryan

Muskie Opener....too early for topwater?
F7Firecat replied to bigcreekdad's topic in General Discussion
You can go with topwaters no problem, got one last year on opener on a super topraider. From what I hear the water is still a lilttle cold, muskies will still hit it. Being cold water, then they may be still shallow and close to their spawning areas makinga topwater a great choice to throw. -
The guys shouldnt have been trepassing for sure, but that mfer should be charged with attempted murder hands down. Bryan

I have a St Croix glass trolling rod for about 5 years now. I have towed plows, 14 inch frankies banging bottom all the time on the Niagara and such. Lots of snag ups . I have no issues at all with this rod and definitely would but another. Stay away from the graphite if your going to be towing big baits banging bottom as from experience it will explode in your hands, especially with super braids.

Actually if it is the whole hub assembly with bearing 300 bucks is a good price for parts and labour. Heck my hub assemble cost me $225 just for parts, and I got a deal. That was for a Silverado 2500 HD though but hub assemblies are not cheap no matter what your driving. Just make sure you do it soon!!

I would think any quality Gore Tex suit would be good. I have a Reima Gore Tex snow mobile suit I use for sledding, thing is absolutely amazing, I also have a BPS Goretex jacket, unlined. It is a little cool but put a sweater under it and your good to go. Wore it last November for a week steady, left the survival suit in the cottage. Spend the cake, and you will be happy. Bryan
