  1. We have a shallow well and we had to do it a couple of times. We dumped at least 1 or 2 gallons of Javex in there, had to wait overnight and then run the water the next day untill we got rid of the Javex smell. We don't drink the water anymore, we use distilled water so only the animals drink it but we use it for everything else.
  2. I think cell phones should be banned well except hands free. As for GPS I see nothing wrong with them, mine just talks to me telling me when to turn etc. My onstar offers hands free phone and directions. Now one thing I didn't see mentioned but someone talked about teenagers and that reminded me that most phones now see more use for texting then talking and that can be very dangerous behind the wheel. Cell phones are already banned in Quebec. As for professional drivers we all know no mater how much experience drivers have some will be better and others worse. I can very easilly drive with my knee while I eat but that's not driving down the 401 or Young street ehter.
  3. For once someone doesn't guess or add 4 inches to his fish he gets questioned. The fish is at arms lenght so it makes it look bigger. And it's a nice horizontal hold, you can see he's not trying to exagerate his great catch. What a beauty. I remember someone posting a 50+ right around this time last year that was a couple of inches short of that one.
  4. I'm sure someone told you this in the many replys as I couldn't find the time to read that novel. But you need to get a cottage on a non fishing/boating lake or remove your dock. You may own the land and the dock but the water is there for everyone to use. Yes there are ignorant people who will not be diligent when doing so but the majority of anglers will stay away from swimmers as well as been carefull of your property. It's not because you buy a cottage that you can stop people from fishing, yes the other 80% of the lake will have good fishing spots but your dock is one of the better spots on the lake or else no one would fish it. Best of luck to you and learn to live with others as it's only going to get worse.
  5. Greg and Linda really have the Lac Seul big muskies dialed in. Congrats on the pig and on a figure 8 as well.
  6. It's just a big old boys club that can include fishing, you need to be patient to get in. Maybe like many others you'll leave or even get banned for having an honest opinion. MA
  7. I just went and did it. I decided to invest my money in a new car vs. giving it to those #$%^&* oil barons. Right now I am spending $140 a week for gas in the truck, with the new car that cost will be $50 a week max. So that leaves me $360 a month for car and insurance payment. Now thanks to GM's no interest car loans it's costing me only $282/mth for a small car loaded and around $100 a month for insurance. So right now the car will cost me an extra $20 a month but for every 10 cents that gas goes up I'm gaining $32 a month. I'm keeping the truck for the few days each month I have to use it for work and naturally for towing the boat in the summer. Another big + that helped in my decision was that the truck will be sitting in the driveway losing less value as well as replacement tires for the car will be over $500 less. Then once it's paid for the car will be worth $$$. MA
  8. 28-30 MPG isn't really fuel efficient, GM has dozens of vehicles that get better then that. Actually the Malibu and even the Impala get over 40 MPG. I actually just bought a Pontiac Wave to drive to work and back instead of the 5.7 liter truck. The fuel savings alone will pay for it and the insurance and as gas keeps going up I'll be saving $$ as well as investing in a car. If you want a van type I'm sure the Uplander will get you over 30 MPG and has a 5 star safety rating.
  9. Use an oil primer for the bare spots, you can actually buy some in a spray can if it's very few spots. Top coat with 100% acrylic, oil paints and way passed their prime. Latex will breath and won't peal unlike the oil paints that are 10-20 year old formulas. Naturally the surface has to be properly prepped especially the scuffing of the surface by sanding. 100% acrylic will stick to oil paints inside or out.
  10. The truck already has a power train warranty, that's way to much to pay for the rest. All the expensive repairs are part of the power train. I wouldn't pay that much even if it was a new vehicle, GM has a 100 Km power train warranty and they want $2500 for extending the bumper to bumper from 60 to 100 Km and no way I'd pay it. It may be a crap shoot but it's an extremely expensive insurance policy.
  11. I don't know which is ruder, the Rude dude or the 2000 hours a year dude. Come on folk wake up 2000 hours is a full time job 40 hours x 50 weeks or a full year, I don't think he's from Florida. I for one would not trust a Rude or would not buy an import. Never had a problem with Mercury and I've had many.
  12. Wow what a grat job Muskies Canada is doing on this project. Cudos to all involved. MA
  13. I was talking line of quality, St-Croix come in premiere, avid and tournament. 3 different quality for the same rod.
  14. You can't really compare the two, G-Loomis only makes one line of rods and they are the best money can buy. I hear some complaining about repairs and such etc etc, but if you own a G-Loomis over a St-Croix you cut back your chances of needing repairs twice over. MA
  15. http://www.ontariofishcharters.ca/ Check this link out. MA
  16. Try the world of maps store downtown Ottawa, if they don't have the charts they can be ordered and you will have them in less then a week. As for ice fishing look for the villages and naturally most are in shallow bays or on shallow flats.
  17. They must be contracting out their support to India or something like that.
  18. Lucky dog, I wish I got that kind of support from the wife once back home after my many operations. MA
