  1. Welcome Anton from another newbie, newbie in here but not to fishing, been doing it since I was 4 years old and man thats a lot of years .
  2. They way i look at it,its better entertainment than taking my wife to the show at $40.00. Just don't tell her that. The show has always been a good excuse for me to get out and blow off some of the winter blaws. Plus I usually come home with something new, whether I need it or not.
  3. A good fishing show is an informative one. A good fishing show is one that is entertaining. I like both, I like to hear what they are using, where they are using it, how they are using it.Let me know the length and type of rod. No need to state the rod name, just the specifics. Let me know what you are fishing for , location , what they are feeding on, type of bait, time of day, time of season , etc., etc. I also like to see the human side, how one actually handles situations in real life time. Don't like the acting type of shows. It is nice to be entertained, but its also nice to learn something at the same time. Fisherman, especially the scouts and pros have their own little bag of tricks, its nice when they pass some of that on to us amateurs. I won't watch a show that has a guy yap for a half hour about nothing. I do not know how they get sponsors. We all know who those shows are.
  4. Read your motor manual , mine says to only use the transom lever that comes with motor and not to use a transom saver. So I googled the good and bad of these savers. The only thing I found from the pros was the bad. Most said that every bump you get from the road will be directly transfered to the motor transom. So not a good idea. Your motor comes with a lever that slips under a spot made to support the motor properly and free from sudden thumps on the transom. I also use ratchet lines to hold my motor from moving, just put the ratchet line through the tow hook on one side at the stern of the boat and the other end around the transom of the motor and ratchet snug. It works great.
  5. Thats funny, but the last time I was hearing voices in the mans room I got the hell out of there.
  6. My bother-in-law has done some of the camera work for these guys. He was up on the platform filming the Last Cull for them in that nasty North Bay storm. He said they are all good guys, easy to get along with, decent guys. That said I feel the same way about their show,in the old days it was more about fishing, the new show is more about acting. Not my type of fishing show anymore, but that doesn't make them bad guys. As far as your prize, I think you made your good valid point. No sense loosing any sleep over it. I would just move on and enjoy without the supposed prize. Now if it were a prize worth a tremendous amt it would put things in a different perspective. That being said I do understand the principle of your point.

  9. Will take you up on that, I will be there Saturday all day. All my rods are St Croix and I am always in the market for a new one....hmmmmmmm where is she, nope not near, whewww
  10. Mike where from in Montreal? I am from Verdun. For those who have never been there in the winter, the streets in Montreal are famous for having snow up that high. The front yards are not very large and the snow gets sometimes up to the tops of windows on the first floor. The only way to get the snow off the streets is by snow blowing it into dump trucks and carrying it away.We used to toboggan off the back garage roof in the fifties and sixties.Folks here in Ontario think when we get 20 centimeter's or more we have had a major storm. Well my son just told me he has the ATVs warmed up,so its time for our weekend ride through this new white fluff!
  11. Will be there on Saturday with my bother-in-law and son. I have been going every year since the late sixties. It was fabulous back then, could make deals on everything. Always came home with new equipment or a new boat ( wife used to warn me each year, not to come home if I even thought about a new boat) .Things changed over the years and the Tackle shops became less and less and did not barter much. Grimsby tackle still does. I heard this year was going to be more like the past, we will see.
  12. Your right Sonny, where ,how and when. River fishing, Great Lake fishing and Northern Lakes fishing for Walleyes are all done differently. Some lakes you must fish at the right times only, other lakes its any time. River fishing usually just before dark and right at sun-up.There are tons of ways to catch them and each person has their own favorite method. The main thing to remember is that you must find the fish, they do not find you! Then get your bag of tricks out and find out what works. P.S. Try hiring a guide who knows the area you fish and he or she will show you the spots and some tricks.

  14. Nice to meet ya. I was also there a couple days ago and picked up two Minn Kota Terrova electric motors. He blew everyone out of the water on the prices. Also picked up a new Stella 1000FA reel and again nobody could touch his price, including eBay. PS: .....I agree, when he gets pushing those buttons on the electronics its all I can do to keep up.
  15. Hi guys, I am new to this site. I live in the London area and I usually visit BPS at least 5-6 times a year. I stop in on my way by heading up north to my camp.I pick up the odd thing, mostly clothing, blue jeans are usually less expensive there. As far as electronics, electric motors and fishing gear, there is no one better or cheaper to buy from than Angling Outfitters who are located on HWY#2 just west of Woodstock(They just relocated). I have bought from just about everywhere, but these guys are the cheapest by far. They also take trade ins.The owner Joslyn knows his stuff, especially electronics. The place is always busy.Since finding this place I just visit BPS for something to do now.
  16. I agree on several points, the guy is arrogant, but that doesn't bother me.I think any naturally good tradesmen could do a show with proper backing and do the job better than normal, especially since they would be on TV. Overkill as mentioned is an understatement. I own a decent size contracting company and I price jobs to do them properly, but I don't meet many folks that are willing to pay the prices he says the jobs cost. I would lose 3/4 or more of my quotes pricing in what he does and the reality is people don't want to go to his extremes unless the price is right. The reason his show is so busy is because of these H.D. type of handymen. Then the customer is the other reason, too many don't want to pay the good guys the right amt. , so they take the lowest prices from the penny saver types and then cry about the workmanship, they then blame the guy who didn't price to do it right in the first place, who would be using inferior methods and materials to keep the price down. Then its time to cry the blues to Mr. Mike and company and try to get a deal. The job which they hired the handyman to do was priced at $10,000.00 and Mr. Mike does it for $25,000, the amt. they wouldn't even consider in the first place, go figure. The only real hope we have with this show is that maybe, just maybe, people will learn to expect to pay a good dollar to get a proper job done in the future.
