  1. How far do you cast? 100 yards is plenty, unless you are casting for salmon or something...
  2. It's been posted. I'll say again - always remember there are two sides to the coin. There is another documentary that talks about the huge amounts of money flowing from US commercial fishing companies into the hands of "environmental" groups so they can essentially produce propaganda to harm the aquaculture industry. Where is the truth? Probably somewhere in the middle as usual.
  3. Just about any type of wild animal has the potential to bang you up pretty good if it feels threatened. The baby deer is a cute little bugger isn't it
  4. There's another side to the coin as well guys - I'll see if I can dig up the documents from an old job I had. Quite a bit of evidence that there is substantial amounts of money flowing from US commercial fishing firms into the hands of what are essentially propaganda organizations that exist solely to crush the aquaculture industry because it is a threat to commercial fishing. Not suggesting that fish farms are perfect, or this video is untrue (I haven't had a chance to watch the whole thing, will do when I get home from work) but its important to get all angles.
  5. I guess it's important to note that with the harvest rates in the recreational fishery in that area, its probably 6 one and half dozen the other. Keep up crap like this and we're going to have to go the US route and just dump 10 billion stockies in every year. Oh wait, we can't afford that. Humans - raping and pillaging natural resources since the beginning of time
  6. Great - just what that fishery needed. Things like this continue to boggle my mind. Oh but don't worry, its OK: "In March, April, October and November, “commercial fishers will make best efforts” not to set commercial nets within a one-kilometre radius of the mouths of Bothwell Creek, Colpoys Creek, Waterton Creek, Keefers Creek and Gleason Brook, to protect spawning salmon and rainbow trout." Two problems here. 1. "Best Efforts" - are you kidding me? We have technology for that. 2. You'll notice February is missing from that 1 km protection. Expect to see nets strung across the mouth of all these creeks. I bet the people that have been pouring their heart and soul (and cash) into stocking efforts are jumping for joy on this one.
  7. I guess I meant on a higher level Chessy. I tend to ridicule folks who are breaking the rules too...some leave sheepishly and some get confrontational, and I've never met a trout that's worth a fist fight.
  8. There has to be something we can do as anglers, to bring awareness and maybe a few bucks to this issue. Might serve us better than just beaching about it on here all the time?
  9. In the past 8 years on the river 2-3 times per week all spring and fall I have been checked for a license ONE time.
  10. Right now, for the most part you will find this: Give it a few days.... Of course there is always SOMEWHERE to fish
  11. Was out this morning before sun up washing some baits, and I snapped a few shots of the sunrise with my iPhone. This was the best of the batch, it's a little grainy because it's only a cell camera after all but what caught my eye was the streak in the top left corner. Shooting star? Yes/No? Cheers.
  12. Working on a couple weeks of swinging flies on the West coast
  13. I do, but as a new grad "invest" isn't exactly a word that's in my vocabulary right now. I seem to be stuck on "repay".
  14. A whack of Poly tubing should do the trick indeed... Thanks TJ
  15. That would certainly work in the shop, if I could figure out how to keep them covered...wood dust from the lathe is EVERYWHERE
  16. That's a big crappie...quick TJ sponsor that man before someone else gets him! I've been unable to catch a crappie all season, maybe I should browse on over to the site...
  17. My name is Braden and I have a problem. I have more fishing rods than I can reasonably store in my rod locker, and I need more space. Here's the situation: I have a whack of personal fishing rods, and also have a whole bunch of custom jobs on the go. Currently I'm storing the customs in my bedroom, because I don't want to leave them in the workshop (dust in the wraps, accidentally knocked over etc). I'm looking for a storage solution that will hold 20-30 rods of various lengths, some finished and others unfinished. It needs to be able to fit in a room with a standard height roof. Alternatively, if it's a closed storage system (doors, some type of cover maybe) it can go in the shop where there is lots more space and roof height. So lets hear it, how do you store your rods?
  18. Wow, big creatures. Kudos to the angler for releasing that brute, many would not be able to do that. I'd love to have a shot at the elk with a different weapon - a good camera!
  19. I'd love to see someone do that with my own eyes...
  20. What rods and lines do you guys use to chuck these big flies? I have an 8 weight that doesn't like to toss anything much bigger than 2"... My fly fishing is mostly limited to rivers, and while I could fire some huge flies with the Spey rod it isn't the most practical idea when in a boat on a lake. Weight forward, big shooting heads?
  21. Just wating till its nice and fat, lulling the bugger into a false sense of security!
  22. I have a batch of floats that need some attention as well, but these rods need to get finished first...
  23. 5" is a little on the big side, but certainly not out of the questions especially on bigger systems. Most of my "big" spey patterns come in around 4".
