  1. For a newb the last thing I'd recommend is a flasher. Get a graph, so much easier.
  2. Lots of guys just run their shot and float on the main line. Nothing wrong with that. I run 2 swivels in my setup. One above the float, one below.
  3. This is just at the Federal level though, it says nothing about Provincial laws in place to protect the rivers or lakes.
  4. I wasn't in the mood to get greased out on Kempenfelt Bay last year, so I did most of my ice fishing north of Barrie Lakers were good, whitefish were few and far between, even in the spring when everyone thought it was going to be a slay in the boats it was for the most part crap. Let's hope we get some decent ice this year.
  5. The way Simcoe was last year, that's a pretty good description!
  6. Yup, I remember I was greeted with a nice 'Transducer not found screen' when I started up my graph the first time.. PITA!!!!! lol!!!
  7. Might wanna read those regs a bit closer. Parts of that river are open all year.
  8. Yup, no difference except for the design of the transducer itself.. I used a stsandard transducer on my 747c for a season but it was a pain in the ass. The ice transducer is so much easier.. Just drop it in the hole and go.. If you spend a lot of time on the ice, this is the way to go for sure. Also, flashers are great on the ice, but if this guy is a all season fisherman, get a graph.. A lot more versatile.
  9. North Korea, lol.
  10. So it's the instructors fault you failed 3 times? LOL.
  11. Screw the NHL, I'm looking forward to Dec 26th and the Juniors!!!!
  12. I never hit the ice without my Humminbird 747c.
  13. To finally get my oldman his first Nipigon spec, one of the best if not the best moments I've had with him. As for myself, nothing beats topwater mouse patterns on the Sutton for big brookies. I'm definitely doing that trip again.
  14. Nick, did you make that rear auger bracket yourself? That's the only thing I'm missing on my sled. I'd love a setup similar to yours so when I'm ripping around by myself, there's no need to tow anything.
  15. You wanna know the price tags on those coats? LOL!! Not something you'd find my parents buying me when I was a wee lad, lol. And screw the bus, we walked to school!
  16. I'd love to go into Henrys and drop the $2500 on the new 24-70mm, lol! But my camera rarely if ever makes me $$$, can't justify a lens like that.
  17. These jackets are usually scooped up by all the cool kids that wear them while waiting for the bus
  18. If you don't salt them, you've got some great chum!
  19. Are you shooting FF or a crop body? Might want to look into the EF-S 17-55mm if on a crop body. The 24-70mm f2.8 ver1 doesn't need IS.. I only find it useful on really long telephotos (100-400mm for example). No need for it on my 70-200 f4L 95% of the time.
  20. Of course he is, look at the province he lives in.. Wouldn't get that deal in Ontario, lol.
  21. Ouch. Unfortunately he's got way too many strikes against him. New driver Male Living in Toronto Own car.
  22. No need for full coverage on a 2003 anything. If he works and lives in Toronto, he should be making Toronto wages. If not, then he really needs to think about moving.
  23. That's not a bad lens, but the best bang for the buck telephoto Canon offers is the EF 70-200mm f4 L... I've got one, it's absolutely outstanding for the price. http://www.canonlenses.ca/Get-close-from-a-distance/EF_70-200mm_f4L_USM
  24. LOL!.. I can get a 100 pack for under $20 shipped to my door.. That lasts a looong time!
  25. Safety razor blades are still super cheap, been using one for years. So much better then that Mach3 Bull! Although ya, that's kinda funny, lol!
