Common sense would dictate you don't go ice fishing when it's 12 degrees out and there's crap ice to begin with. Unless you're some sort of ice whisperer, you didn't know what your next footstep would bring in those conditions. Don't kid yourself.
If I really want to go fishing, I'll take a personal day which I'm given a few of (along with sick days) a year. I can do with it what I wish and don't have to feel guilty about skipping out on work.
You aren't tossing those things with spinning gear. You'll have a hard enough of a time tossing them with fly gear unless you've got some meat to your setup.
