  1. Thanks for the reply. I agree. That is why I want to fish from the river mouth where they are probably hanging out until it rains.
  2. Thanks for the recommendation. I was actually thinking of that too but would like to go for the cheaper option first ie shore fishing before considering a charter. He is still here for a few weeks and if we don't catch anything, we will be looking into a charter.
  3. A friend of mine is moving to Calgary and wants to go salmon fishing before heading out west. I promised him that we would go this Thursday somewhere. Anywhere. I know most will say to go and try and both of us have been doing just that at port credit and bronte but no dice! And that is the case for most guys fishing there unless this past weekend things have changed. This is the one time he has to go as he is willing to spend 4-5 hours through the night even though he has work the next day. I was looking into port hope but have been hearing conflicting reports and is almost 2 hours from my place. Some are saying that the salmon have come and gone, while some are saying that they are still lots at the river mouth. A guy I met at at bronte was saying just a few days ago that he was catching them at port hope at the rate of 3-4 landed fish per outing. Other places I would like to try or think about are: Port Hope from Pier Niagara whirlpool (I know the hike back up is tough but worth it if fishing is good) Any of lake Huron Tributaries from river mouth Any other Lake Ontario Tributaries from river mouth Any other places you can recommend I don't mind going to some place even though the salmon have come and gone as long as there are other similar fish like trout. Please Pm if you wish. Thanks
  4. You will have to replace it eventually especially since we use AC in the summer, sooner or later you will start to smell the stink from the moisture when you turn on the blower fan after running the AC. Get the charcoal activated filter if you can. Not much of a price difference from the regular and worth it to get rid of allergens and smell in the air.
  5. Thanks for all the replies. I think the exact same thing when I see a boat go by and I am seriously thinking of getting a little 12 foot aluminum boat to get out those areas. Unfortunately when I save up a little to put towards the boat, some other expense comes up. But that's life right . Definitely I have learnt a lot by shore fishing and with all the very useful tips and advice I get from here. I have learnt a little how to read the water conditions and which areas to stay away from. Unfortunately sometimes I know there are fish but the fish are smarter lol and that is probably due to higher fishing pressure and due to the fact that most places I go to have bass and they can be very picky. Salmon are not quite running right now and its a gong show wherever you go on the shore of Lake O. I think once the salmon run is over, and the trout start, the crowd will be less and a lot more enjoyable to be shore fishing at the productive timings. I guess the reason I want to get a fish finder so that I can explore areas where there is no crowd while trying to not waste too much time. How much time is reasonable to try a new spot before moving on?
  6. Appreciate it. will send you a pm as needed.
  7. yes its the ones you can cast out. sorry I was going to put up a link but having trouble with my phone lol. the websites are buydeeper.com and fishhunter.com I have also read of fish hunter brand which is suppsedly cheaper and better. If anyone has used one or can recommend one, I would appreciate it.
  8. anyone ever use this type of portable fishfinder? Basically it can be used from anywhere including docks, piers, boat, ice fishing etc. would be nice to know if there are actually fish in the water than to spend countless hours exercising and practicing casting lol.
  9. I had a similar question. I think it depends on the size of the boat and size the motor. Suppose I get a 12 foot aluminium boat with a 9.9 motor without a trailer, do I need to register and/or get it licensed? I think in this case the only thing that needs to be registered is if there is a trailer??
  10. Thanks for the advice ohiofisherman. The only reason I was using the little cleo was to get past the weedy section into deeper section of the water. Once in the weeds, I kept the rod tip up to make it swim over the weeds. That is when I hooked the bass. I was surprised to have a bass chase a spoon lol.
  11. using spinning reel. Just casting in the small bays along Lake O. didnt realize some parts have have really dense pockets of weeds.I almost caught a bass on a little cleo spoon but lost it at the last second.
  12. http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/gamakatsu-superline-offset-ewg-hook-1781220p.html#.Vf3EN4FZTqB i think these are the ones you guys are referring to. Il be picking those up soon with some senkos. thanks!
  13. I would appreciate it if you let me know the exact kind of hook you use. I have to help my buddy land a fish soon since he will be banned from coming home if doesnt bring back fish lol
  14. can I get the yamamoto senko from Canadian tire? I collect canadian tire money so I buy all my fishing stuff from there at a discount or free . Nevermind I found the senkos on CT website. Now the question is, do I get the 4 inch or the 5 inch?
  15. Thanks for the reply Steve! I have exactly the same setup you mention as in 20lb braid on a medium rod. Most people say to use a leader so I have 15 lb leader but I think the tag end of the mono leader line is what is getting caught in the weeds. I will try the straight braid to hook. Thanks again.
  16. My friend was using a frog, although it was not a topwater one and he did get something to bite but never hooked it. The difference was that he was only able to cast half the distance I was able to with my jig setup. I will look into topwater lures. Thanks
  17. Thanks smiity55 for the reply. I will look into those. I also realized I could try the jig heads with the brush by the hook. Hopefully that will help with keeping them off the hook. I just have to figure out how to keep weeds off the knot.
  18. Tried fishing yesterday in a really weedy place. I am sure there were some pike and bass but was having trouble keeping the weeds off. I am fishing from shore so I need to be able to cast quite far and retrieve, so I was using jig head with gulp minnows and grub texas rigged. I also tried a bucktail jig and same problem. The problem I was having is that the knot on the swivel would get caught in the weeds. I removed the swivel and put the line straight to the jig head and then the knot would get caught. Is there a better way to be able to weedless using a jig style setup. I use a polomar know and try to cut the tag end as close as I can but it seems to always get caught. I haven't tried senko worms or something heavier. Perhaps any recommendation of fake worms that are heavy enough to be able to cast without the use of added weight. Thanks
  19. I would suggest starting with replacing the thermostat again in case the one you replaced is faulty and then make sure to get all the air out of the system by burping the system when filling. Not sure if these engines have a bleed valve. If it does make sure to bleed the system of air. Also check to see that all wiring related to the cooling system and fan are plugged in.
  20. thanks. I know the spot you are talking about but the closest I was able to get was about 20 feet from the railway bridge across the rowing school. didnt get any bites although they may be on the other side of the railway bridge. I will keep trying since I know I have seen a pike or two at the river mouth a month or two ago.
  21. Would like to find some place where I can do some pike fishing, something with some size within 30 mins of Mississauga/Oakville. I have been to mountsberg but looking for other places. Also wondering if pike move in closer to the river mouths at this time of the year or move out deep into the lake? I fish port credit and bronte pier frequently so would be nice to know if they hang out there. PM me if you wish to share a location. Thanks
  22. Great video. Makes me want to fish for some pike!
  23. Nice! I'm jealous lol
