My goals for 2008: to get out more then 2007, to go up to the cottage more, to improve on my fishing techniques, to take in more information to improve my overall effectiveness on the water, to buy some nice fishing equiptment, and hopefully catch a real trophy sized northern..

Great report Cast Adventures.. looks like you guys had a blast out on the Niagara river, and it's great to see that you can still catch some beauties softwater style in the dead of winter! I was up in Niagara Falls at the end of December with my woman, but I never had a chance to slip away and wet a line.. next time..

In the spring, late summer, and early fall time, the Northern Pike fishing in parts of Georgian Bay is fantastic. Big Pike come shallow into the numerous weedy bays and put on the feedbag something decent.. Try around Point Au Baril, I've had success around there in personal experiences..

Don't talk that way about Frank Thomas, he's our cleanup hitter..

T.L. thanks for posting those PDF files.. Now I can plan things a little bit more clearly.. -
I think thats awsome.. who cares how cold it is.. I went out fishing about a week ago and it was about -5, and I only fished for about 20 minutes before I threw in the towel due to the cold, but who cares!? It was just fun getting out there, and I'm sure you feel the same way..

My mentor was both my Uncle Reggie and my Father. When I was really young I used to fish in those kids sunfish derby's, and I always used to show my dad what I caught, and be so proud of it. When I was 7 and 8 years old I used to go up to my Uncle Reggie's cottage up at Fish Lake and he always used to take me out early in the mornings and late at night, and try to teach me how to fish properly, and what techniques produced fish. Of course today I couldn't say I remember many tips, I only have a few vivid memories from that early age out fishing with my uncle, but both him and my dad got me into fishing, and I'm going to make sure to do the same to my children.

In 2007 I'd have to say that I probably went out fishing at least 60-70 times, which was the most I've fished in one year of my life.. 2008 is probably going to be about the same, if not more.. and damn, i'm dieing here not being able to fish, this winter is taking forever..

Wow.. If I caught a muskie HALF that size I would be extatic... that was just unreal..

Well.. this Christmas I received a few fishing related gifts from an assortment of friends and family. Nothing too spectacular, but some solid stuff... in random order: Rapala sportsman spinning rod, Rapala spinning reel, new Plano tackle box, an assortment of lures, fishing cap light, rod holster, some Berkley line, fly fishing calendars, and a freshwater fishing book.. I really wanted a baitcasting combo, but it didn't come to pass.. hopefully I can spring for one and get it set up in time for ice out..

One of my good friend’s neighbors annually puts out a large metal pole in his front yard, with decorations, and claims it to be the Festivus pole…ya gotta love Seinfeld…

What a bunch of fantastic photos.. looks like you had a great year with many differnet species caught. Thanks for sharing!

35 bucks! Wow, what a deal.. I have this rod/reel combination, and I can attest to how nice it is.. 35 bucks is an absolute steal.. If only I lived near Oshawa I would grab a second one right now.. If anyone's interested in a very decent spinning setup, good for bass, pike and walleye, pick this up now!

What's on your Santa wish list this year?
tdotfisherman replied to pameladallaire's topic in General Discussion
If Santa brought me a nice Shimano baitcasting setup, and some fishing tools I'd be mighty happy with him -
Nice pics.. Looks like you boys had quite the day out there..

Night Fishing Report - Surprise Catch
tdotfisherman replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
What a great catch for this time of year ccmtcanada! Gotta love urban pike! -
Well let’s see... this was my first year of buying my own equipment. In the past, I had only gone fishing up at other people's cottages, and usually just borrowed their rods, and used their tackle. This year I decided it was long overdue to go out and buy my own stuff.. now on to the list.. I bought 4 rods, 6'6" abu garcia, 8'8" shimano, 7' zebco and another 6' zebco for my spare reel.. I got an abu garcia specialist spinning reel, a shimano spinning reel, and a zebco spinning reel.. I laid out for a nice plano tackle box, fishing gloves, net, plyers, scale, file, etc.. and over the course of the year I bought assorted tackle.. everything you can think of.. spoons, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, crankbaits, plastics, topwater, jigs.. the list goes on.. All this fishing stuff put me back a bit (poor university student), but 2008 is really going to have some lavish purchases.. just need to save up some coin.. hopefully my woman won't be offended by the golden arches..

how to kill your time when the water is FROZEN
tdotfisherman replied to a topic in General Discussion
At my favourite local fishing spot I just got skunked again, 3rd time in a row.. There's no more bass, pike, salmon, or even trout.. in fact I'm seeing absolute no fish activity whatsoever.. I guess it's time to call it a year for me.. I'm not really big into trib or ice fishing, although I'd love to go one day this winter and hit up the Lower Niagara river for some Steelhead, but we'll see.. I just can't wait for spring.. it's going to be such a slow winter.. -

Nice pictures, looks like good fishing.. and btw, pig is an understatement for that smallmouth.. -
Nice pictures and fun report Urban Fisherman.. They're never too young to fish!!

I caught that show on WFN the other day, it surprised me because it was new and I've never heard of it before.. From about the 10 minutes I saw, I was impressed with it.. Although I did recently catch an episode of Simply Fishing where the host caught a trophy muskie on Lake of the Woods, and absolutely freaked out, it was quite funny..

My grandfather fought in both the Battle of Vimy Ridge, and the Battle of the Somme in the First World War. The suffering and attrition that those boys went through was unbelievable. For every Canadian that contributed to the war, it's something that should be remembered and respected... Thanks for posting.

If I had to rank my 2007 year for fishing, I would rank it 9/10, but its definitely been my most productive year.. I've always been a casual fisherman, but this year I really got into it hard, and I've been outdoors fishing way more then in the past.. I went up to Georgian Bay and Port Loring to fish about 10 times during the summer and fall, which is way more then usual for me.. I also went out fishing to a few of my local Toronto fishing spots about 30 times this summer/fall, and even though the bite is tough around Toronto, I still managed a few beauties.. In terms of personal bests for this year: PB Chinook Salmon, PB Northern Pike, PB Brown Trout, PB Rainbow Trout, and PB Perch.. It's been a fantastic year.. and I'm already dieing for spring 2008!
