Yikes, looks like I have a fair amount of reading to do. Thank you for all of the input and advice! I purchased the router in October so it's not old at all. It sounds like setting up a guest network is something I really should do, just to keep our devices protected. Thanks again guys!

Fishing before bass seasons opens...
adam lancia replied to adam lancia's topic in General Discussion
Wow guys, that's a ton of options! Thanks! I'm going to have to see when I have a few breaks in my schedule and put aside a day or 5 to go fishing :-D -
Yikes! I thought that would have us more than covered. Teksavvy doesn't offer anything faster than that, are Bell and Rogers the only faster alternatives?

I just did a quick test and I'm getting ~46 mbps down in the spot I usually have my laptop when it's hooked up to the TV for streaming. The router we have is a Netgear N600. So you don't think that sharing the access point is causing the problems?
-
It's hard to say exactly, I have no idea how many they have connected downstairs. Upstairs we would have 3 phones and at least my laptop (which we stream everything on) and up to 2 tablets, plus whatever they're running downstairs.

My family and I rent the main floor of a bungalow and we have cable internet with a WiFi router. The basement is rented out to another family and we have agreed to split the internet costs and they're accessing the internet through our router upstairs. Since we don't have cable, we stream or download everything. I have noticed some choppiness and a sometimes slow connection/reaction while even just browsing the web, let alone streaming a Raptors game. Would adding a second WiFi router for the basement tenants improve our internet speed/quality upstairs? We're using Teksavvy Cable 60. Any ideas or input are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

So I primarily fish for bass but since the season opens relatively late, what do you other bass fishermen fish for before that? This is my first season waiting for fishing season to open in Ontario (I used to just fish once we went up to the cottage which wasn't until June anyways...). I was living in Halifax the past two years so there was a lot of trout to be fished, is that the case here? I'm going to be fishing from the banks primarily. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks in advance!

You're a couple of weeks late to the party, it has already come and gone.

"A deadly game of cat and moose." had me roaring!

My cousin manages that department, I was astounded to wander in there and see their stock compared to most of the CT's in Toronto! There are a number of smaller shops in my area of Scarborough and I drop in to see what they have in their clearance bins and to talk fishing/find out what's working. That kind of resource right on my doorstep is invaluable!

Ontario Man Jailed for Fishing Violations
adam lancia replied to Old Ironmaker's topic in General Discussion
They should have kept his boat and trailer. -
Thank you for the clarification Bill. Looks like my spring fishing is going to be for trout of some kind :-D

I have a question about the various seasons for the different species. The 3rd or 4th weekends in June are listed as opening day for bass, does that mean it's only catch and release before then or a strict ban on fishing for bass then?

NF-Should winter tires be mandatory in Ontario
adam lancia replied to LostAnotherOne's topic in General Discussion
I say follow the German model: if you don't have winter tires installed after a certain date, any accident you have will not be covered by your insurance. And that's in a country that doesn't get the snow some parts of Ontario get. -
Embarrassing/funny moments while fishing....
adam lancia replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
I was fishing from shore in August and the spot I was in was pretty dense with small trees and bushes. There was a small clearing to get to the water, but in order to cast, I had to stand on some rocks which where slightly above the waterline. They were dry for the most part and the water was only a foot deep. I fished for 5 hours without a mishap... until I got a phone call. I had just cast so I was switching the phone to my other hand so I could retrieve my lure when I forgot how to use my hands. Turns out a Galaxy S2 will work after it dries out, it'll just do it's own thing rather than what you're telling it to do... -
Could you forward me their contact info via PM please? That sounds like a conversation I'd like to have as well. Thanks!

Thanks for their number, I got an answer to my question.

Hi all, does anyone have an email address for Shimano in Peterborough? Thanks in advance!

I know exactly how valuable used tools are, they've done tons of work and already know what they're supposed to do! LOL! A joke like could only ever be made by the son of a now-retired Snap-On Tools dealer...

I wish I had known about your Dad's old Snap-On stuff, it all would have found a good home.

Outdoor storage shed options, sorta NF
adam lancia replied to adam lancia's topic in General Discussion
I didn't even give mice and the like a thought, that just might kill this plan dead in the water... Guess it's time to ask the landlord what they think about an addition on the house LOL! -
After asking what everyone does with their reel boxes and packaging, it became apparent to me that I need some storage space. And rather than pay a storage facility, I think I'm going to pick up a storage shed for the backyard and hopefully have it fairly weather proof. Is there an economical way to insulate it without getting too involved? An 8' x 8' space would do it, maybe have the roof peak at 7'. Am I better off going the resin route or metal? Since I'm trying to do this as inexpensively as possible, I'm guessing wood is going to be out of the question, especially the prefabbed ones...? The reason I would like to insulate it is because I would also use it as a tiny work shop over the winter, probably running an extension cord or two to power a small space heater and a light. Does anyone have any input on what route to go? Ideally, I want keep it under $800. That will still be less expensive than storage for the next 10 months with a little left over. I'm not worried about taking it with us should we move, my parents life nearby and would welcome a shed. Thanks in advance for any and all help and advice!

It seems that each seasons first "snow shock" (the shock and surprise folks in snowy climates exhibit when the first snow hits each season...) is creeping further north each year. It's sad to see, especially when you consider how many lives are put at risk by folks who are just plain ignorant to the skills they need to drive in winter weather. I'm used to seeing folks react as if it's the first time they've seen snow here in the city, that's a given every year. Get a dusting and it's mayhem! LOL

What do you do with your reel boxes and packaging...?
adam lancia replied to adam lancia's topic in General Discussion
Looks like the panel is split on this one. If I had the room, I'd keep the boxes, even if my wife did tell me that it serves no purpose other than to occupy space. I would only have 4 reel boxes if that were the case... Anyone know of any inexpensive, weather-tight storage solutions for in our backyard...? 5'x10' would likely do it. I should add that we're only renting a house at the moment, however, my parents live nearby so if we were to pick up the family again, they would be glad to inherit it. Thoughts...? I'd just keep it close enough to the house that I could run an extension cord to it for a little space heater. -

Sounds like I need a garage or bigger house so I can have a room for my toys... One day when I grow up. Until then, anyone have a Revo STX 6.4:1 LH box and packaging they wouldn't mind letting go of...? There's tons of good karma and a coffee in it for ya! LOL!
