Hello, I was fortunate to grow up weekends and summers on Oxtongue Lake, north of Huntsville, so targeted Smallmouth and Lake Trout, then had easy access to a similar lake nearby for many years, then my folks lived in Lake Muskoka so targeted Pike, Smallies, Lakers and Walleye. When I had a decent boat to trailer I fished Balsam Lake in the Kawartha hard for Musky for about 10 years, then looking for new opportunities for Musky- started to travel to North Bay Area and fell in love with the lakes up there. Have bought a house between three great water bodies and Nippisssing is only 20 minutes away as well. I guess I’m an opportunistic angler, and target species and waters near wherever I am currently.

Felt it yesterday morning as I walked into work- drizzle on my face, overcast skies. I took next Wed/Thurs/Fri off and booked the lodge near North Bay- heading back...

Got it all done, really straightforward actually. Cleaned up rear deck some and much neater. Thanks for the encouragement! Mike

Hello, I want to re- rig my outboards, main and kicker, by moving wIring and cables under the rear deck as much as possible. Rear deck plates are off, and I can see where I want to run everything, but how difficult is it to remove and re-route then reattach everything? Hydraulic assist steering- pretty sure I can simply bleed air out after reattaching. But cables and wires to motors- straightforward to trace and remove?

Pike Fishing Trip - Canal/Mitchell/Balsam
musky666 replied to FishFinder17's topic in General Discussion
Balsam has quite a good, reproducing supply of Pike now ( not so good for the Musky however) and can be targeted, beware of Musky moving into spawning areas of course and handle with care if caught accidentally. -
Fines and jail time are a joke still- amp it up and hold .........accountable. Imagine the big head carp being tuned loose! I have no doubt in my lifetime I will see the asian carp spread throughout the waters that I grew up fishing on. As for other nationalities that are doing this, don't get me started...

How often should you repack the wheel bearings
musky666 replied to RickOnt's topic in General Discussion
Whenever you do the service- DO IT! I thought I was pretty good wither regular maintenance until a blown bearing ruined a trip home, terrible PITA. Did not do mine at end of last season, fished until mid December, but parts are on their way and will do both axles this spring- oil bath hubs. -
Folks fishing this area this season should be aware that many small Musky came through the ice ( and back down) this past season, a good sign that the stocking is doing well. If more are caught, please remember to let them go and handle with care...

Site 511, boat grounded out 15' from shore, 17' Starcraft-about 10 years back now. Other years water levels are higher. No problem with my 20' Flex last summer. Likely not heading there this summer, tried to get my favourite site but struckout out. Will miss the Musky chase...and sooooo many great stories from there- and the damn fish....

Depending on size of your boat, and water levels, some campsites are not the best for grounding your boat.

I love this hockey, and hope for the best. I think this team is a little young still, not very well balanced as in other years. Too much cation on the outside, can't drive to the net.

Nice to meet you on Saturday Kerry, I saw you working inside edge at Ant Island and was hoping you had better luck than I did trolling outside edge. Super nice day on the water for mid December though. Hope you a re able to launch on Simcoe January 1! Mike

Very nice! I actually purchased a 6' handle for my Beckman for when I fished alone- only way to reach the fish with long rods (RIP Beckman ...)

I have found two submerged rocks on Woods Bay/Blackstone- the hard way! Trolling speed only though so no damage. Heading up in the morning and will be very careful with the new boat.
