  1. good to here there still in the general region. I'll be out this weekend Red Crestliner 1750. monitoring 16 and 72 I got a few new tape combos to try out on the bows
  2. 16 mile is now a pay launch too. it's one of those meter things so be sure to bring your loonies and toonies. The sign says $5 for 3 hours but the machine will take additional $ and keep addiing on time to your ticket. As said before yes time is now. best fishing of the year. low boat traffic now that derby is over. I like the 180-250 zone south east of oakville launches. you can bump into most stuff out there. riggers and diver work well
  3. it was sad to see him leave burlington. was a regular there and bought most of my spin doctors and nk's there
  4. My 11 year old son has turned into quite the bass fisherman this year - smallies and now he wants to hit the slop for LB. I bought him 2 TS2's to start his own collection and so far they have worked out fantastic. I grab them in the boat and they feel great and so far have taken a lot of abuse. There's a light muskie version 6'9" at lebarons I think. I bought this one for a heavy bass rod for him and it makes a great pitchin and swimbait rod. I'll be using it this weekend I've been to both bps and lebarons in the last week and the pickins for Rap rods is very slim for end of year guys
  5. Drive across the bridge and turn left at the lights. It's about 100 yards on your left. There's no docks or signs so don't blink. You can circle around and park on the south side of the road or back up a couple streets off the road. There is a marina and pay to use ramp on the south side. Ive got a 1750 crestliner and the public ramp was a little hard on my trailer. It starts off shallow and then just drops so your trialer rails most likely will bottom out. Remember it's 10km/hr no wake all the way to the rail bridge. Cottagers are all out and they've been known take boat numbers on anyone pushing the speed
  6. To the east it's Hwy 560 you come out about 20 km just south of Chapleau
  7. much more simple that it appears go get a power chord that has a built in fuse breaker. Cut off the plug and connect an alligator clip or battery clip to the white and black wires. Green is ground and is not required. Attach white to red on battery and black to black Plug in the downrigger. Grab the cable so you have tension on it and hit the switch to let out line. If it's in series it will work. If not flip the downrigger plug around and test again
  8. I'm no expert in dogs but I bumped across this as a freind at work had a golden pup with it. After a lengthy and costly treatment pup is doing fine but not a great way to start off. That was a couple of years a go and as I underestand it's linked to the immune system and her dog has never been the healthiest. Always getting ear infections and they can't board it anymore as it gets kennel cough at the drop of a hat. It might sound selfish but I'd recommend moving on to looking at a new pup. From a few websites I went and googled it sounds like it doesn't reoccur but the way it was written left me with a few doubts. Our first choice in beagle pups came down with a bad cold and stopped eating. It went through the whole litter and the breeder I was dealing with insisted on us choosing a new pup.
  9. I've fished diamond for years and based on the water level dropping through August you'll need a crane and a ton of keel gaurd to get any sized boat up over the rapids. Fish deep for walleyes. 25-30 FT edges along points and rocky shores. At these depths watch your finder. You'll see fish laying on the bottom. As HD says work the areas with bottom bouncers with small gold, orange and red blades. I start small on the blades and go bigger if nothing is biting. The slow death hooks worked well for bass up on temagami. Find the junky (wood/rock) shorelines for bass. 3" senkos have been goto bait for last 3-4 years up there. XRaps and torpedos for sure.
  10. Wanna go shopping? look up these colours NBK 42 second Watermelon Tranny spoon Mongoose Jerry Lee (rainbows up high) Glow Frog http://www.attheoak.com/spoons.html These guys are a little ahead of the curve so check for new hot colors. They get em well before they get up here. I was reading about spin doctors on this site 2 years before I saw one in Canada
  11. Nice place, you guys should really try and relax a bit on your vacations. OFC verification required folks. There appears to be a smile on Lews face
  12. If you're after a big guy then like what was stated -stay shallow for first light. Focus on the bottom and up 10-15 feet. Most often the shallower the water the closer to bottom the mature chinooks will be. Also try J plugs or Lymans. I feel these stir them up and provoke more of a reaction bite. When the sun gets higher head out to 180+ FOW and troll out deeper. August and September will have lots of smaller bows and salmon out chasing bait in these areas. It's also the area where the bigger ones will regroup if we get warm water pushed in with south winds. For me it's been a spoon bite this year. Tend to see more on the long thin baits like Dreamweaver SS and smaller NK's. Watermelon, NBK, 42 second, are 3 I wouldn't go out without. Must be my luck but I've only hit 1 fish this year on the flasher fly combo. Check out spoonpullers for a ton of rigging set up info and if you have a big enough boat with GPS, VHF do some research on the blue zone. That's were you'll find me when I'm out. Loads of rainbows and cohos to have fun with.
  13. U should be fine. N and any variation of W at speeds you're stating will make for a smooth ride
  14. Never had too much negative bites when flippin direct with braid. Usually run 50-65lb for the real heavy stuff and have a 30lb rig close by. Like flipping the camo line now and tying to the black portion. That puts the light brown sections 3-4 ft from the lure and I pick up line movement from lite bites way easier. Trying the power pro red too soon. Lately i have liked flipping more with mono again as I seem to get better slippage through the heavy mats.
  15. I'd start with a queen size sheet and then add another if needed.
  16. get a few big streamer flies and fish them on spinning gear under a clear casting bubble (clear float), The gar in quinte and Trenton seem to like this.
  17. Have wanted to check out this area for smallies by boat but have been told by more experienced lake fishermen that employees watch for recreational boaters and will sccot you out of the area if you get in their close. Safety first when there's any possibility of one big tanker being in the area
  18. I own 2 Cannon Marlin electrics and have been soooooo happy with their perfomance. Easy access to parts at Fish307.com. They're over 10 years old and I've only had to replace 1 end roller in all that time. Motors still perfom well after years of abuse with hauling 10 and 12 lb cannonballs. I don't think I've ever owned an 8lber I've fished regularly over the years on friends boats who have Walkers and Big Jons. Like the Walker but I found a few of the parts a bit plasticy but their motors are really fast and dependable. The only complaint I have on Big Jon's is they discontinued the spring up rod holders and on the 4 ft arms I find them a bit too bouncy in rougher water (just my opinion). The only one I haven't used at all is the Scotty. Go electric right off the bat. Trust me you'll never want to wind in a 10 lb ball from 100 FOW Check out the used sites on spoonpullers and check if anybody still has some stuff they're trying to sell. look at page 2 and 3 and contact the seller. If I was buying again I'd buy cannon's again. They've been very good to me
  19. For a trolling motor a deep cycle battery is your best option. I'm in the market as my Interstates have finally crapoped out ad=fter seven years. As recommended by other members the most power and best price right now on a deep cycle is Walmart @$90 for a 27 class deep cycle. Will be picking up 2 of these today on the drive home. Costco has a good deal too but reserve capacity is lower than the Energizer at Walmart.
  20. First batch of salmon and trout turned out OK. 24 hours in a soya soauce and brown sugar brine. Added some hot sauce but nowhere near enough. Mental note for next brine triple up the hot sauce The bottom rack gets much more heat than the top so I'll need to rotate the shelves each hour. I was able to get better temps when I added 2 well burned charcoal coals to the smoking chips. Here it is at 11 pm last night after 5 hours in the smoker. 2 pieces for lunch today at work and orders to bring in a bunch more tomorrow next up will be smoked nachos and wings
  21. Sat bite was good on rice. no big ones but we hit 16 fish throughout the day. Most consistent pattern was throwing craws and creatures to heavy pad edges with slop blown in around. Seemed fish were tight to cover
  22. do you have a general area targetted or range of driving time from where your located. You can not beat Algonquin for the fall. Spectacular and the crowds have diminished a lot.
  23. Thanks Roy, I have a store right across the road here and will check them out at lunch. I remember when I got these last ones I put on a whack of miles driving around trying to do some comparative shopping and usually each place only carries 1 model.
  24. Hey guys, looking for any positive feedback from those that have seen some deals or bought 12V deep cycle motor batteries in the Oakville area. My 2 Interstate 27's are at the end of life (7 years old) and I want to get something quick (this week). Would prefer to get a maintenance free battery if possible. Looking for 27 size again and need 2 for 24V system. Was at CTC this morning before week and they're standard deep cycle is $140. Good reviews but would like to see what else is out there/ Any info is appreciated. Anyone ever buy from a battery place just in behind Fishing world in Hamilton I think its on Kenora Ave Still not convinced the $ on orbital batteries equals the better performance.
