As we get storms and need to get rid of branches or wood by products we pile it at the bottom of the pasture. Once we get a nice coating of snow we have us a great big bonfire to sit around and make us feel like it is spring again. This pile is about 20x20 and was really putting out the heat. Art

Looking for some opinions on tow vehicles
aplumma replied to lookinforwalleye's topic in General Discussion
I have been involved with nissans for many years and currentlyI have a Titan. I have found Nissans to be very dependable and over built. Nissan has been very active on fixing their issues when they occure The dealership that I bought from has been very happy to not only fix recalls but to also apply any bulletins that are present on my truck. With this said I don't think you want a Titan to tow 2000 with because it is rated for close to 10,000 lbs it has alot of motor and it does have a drinking problem. I would recomend any of the vehicles in the Nissans lineup they have put alot of money and effort in keeping ahead of the pack. Yes I have also owned all of the other major brands in a truck or a van configuration and they all have their advantages and disadvantages the Nissan is what fits ME. Art -
Well done what program are you using??? I havent see that effect before without a lot of manipulation. Art

IF THE WATER TEMPERATURE (F) IS: EXHAUSTION OR UNCONSCIOUSNESS TIME OF SURVIVAL IS: 32.5 Under15 Minutes Under 15 - 45 Minutes 32.5 - 40.0 15 - 30 Minutes 30 - 90 Minutes 40.0 - 50.0 30 - 60 Minutes 1 - 3 Hours 50.0 - 60.0 1 -2 Hours 1 - 6 Hours 60.0 - 70.0 2 -7 Hours 2 - 40 Hours 70.0 - 80.0 3 - 12 Hours 3Hours+Indefinitely OVER 80.0 Indefinitely Indefinitely The human body looses heat at a rate 26 times faster while submerged in water. I have seen were people have packed in a canoe to an outback lake because it was lite to fish in water that is just above freezing in the spring. If a person can get back into the boat and get back to shore before he becomes unconscious then he has a good chance of telling his story. Having confidence in your abilities is a good thing but hedging the odds in your favor is even better. If you are a lake 9-5 weekender type canoer then you will never need one of these. If you press the boundaries of the craft or situation then go ahead and get one it might save your life or some one else's. Art

All ISP's will turn over any information to the authorities if you perpetrate a crime on the internet. That includes copy right infringement illegal up/down loading and other crimes that are defined by the governing legal system. If the law is blurry then they send you a notice if the law is concrete then you will get busted. Right now Canada is at the point of getting notices and eventually the laws will be changed so they can bust you. For some people it is hard to be honest if no one is watching them for others it is easy to blur the line to make it fit their conscience and for a few your conscience can guide you to the right answer. Past injustices should never be used to justify future moral discrepancy's nor should crimes against faceless industries be thought of as uninjured victims. Eventually it comes back to the one person to one person level being hurt by someone else getting something for free. Art

put me down for spending $0.00 but only because it is to far away. Art

They make white water bags also that you tie in the front and back inside of the canoe that will also do the same thing. I think that it is a great idea if you have people who swim poorly or the water temp is really cold. Art

Ask any A/c shop for the silfloss they can sell you a stick of it and you should be good to go. J b weld does not bond to smooth surfaces so make sure you rough it up pretty good before you try it. I have found it to work poorly on items that have shearing pressure. It does work well for filling issues and large surface areas that are not subject to water or freezing temps. Art

Aww man you all forgot the best fishin eats around.....vienna sausages and sardines in hot sauce on ritz crackers. Dont forget your favorite hot beverage to drink though after all it is really stinkin cold between bites out their. Art

Nice pictures Cliff I am glad you had fun fishing saltwater. Their are a very large number of different fish to catch. The horseshoe crab you caught has 2 uses that I know of one is a strong immune system that they are studying to help cancer patients and the other is to make lamps to sell to tourists. Did you catch any robin fish they are black and ugly but have eyes that are as pretty as turquoise jewelry? It is a shame you could not keep the sharks they are very good eating when cleaned, soaked and deep fried. Art

If it is not an emergency and you did not ask me before hand you may not use my stuff . I consider it a matter of courtesy and respect to check with someone before you use an item because what looks like an old knife might be a family heirloom. Some items have quirks that need to be explained like the hard to light heater that will flashback and possible damage the hut or you if you do it wrong. Since you did ask before hand it means that you are courteous, considerate and respect my property so chances are I would be happy to let you use my property. Art

good call raf I agree sometimes the mechanics will forget to advise this step to customers because they get accused of gouging but to me it is just another step in preventive maintenance. Art

I guess I should click on more of them buttons all over this website. The news is the button that is on top in line with the many other features on the website. Thanks to all of the authors that take the time to contribute. I am guessing that if anyone finds something news worth they can submit it to one of the mods and they can run it thru legal to see if it can be included in future statements. Thanks for the time and another cool feature on this site. Art

Just because the world is changing does not always mean it is for the worst. To pick on one issue in nature that is changing and then track it to the worst conclusion is normally for the politicians to to holler about. So far everyone is up in arms as to the evils that advancement and technology has given them but they have heard about it as they drive their car down the highway to get to the job that is 20 miles away because they want to live in the country. You might be driving to your cottage with your boat in tow so you can fish and watch the game on the satellite dish when you hear this political battle on the radio. So with all of the good that we get from advancements we also get some bad. It is up to you to chose to either restrain yourself from using technology and thus slowing global warming or to admit to yourself that you like the benefits of modern living and stop paying lip service to the horrors of technology by the other bad humans. I for the record live 20 miles outside of the area I work and drive a large pickup truck and have a boat with a gas motor on it and drive as far as 2 hours to fish for a day. I find it slightly ironic that we are having this discussion on a computer on a recreational site. This is not written as a slam on anyone it is just a point of view that I hold and if it were not winter I would have not spent the 5 min to type. Have a good day. Art

Put the battery on charge for 12 hours. Then unhook it and take a volt meter to it if it is a perfect charge it should read 12.65 volts. The lower it is the weaker the unit is. Crank the battery for 30 seconds then measure the battery again it should read above 12 volts if it does not then it is time to replace the battery. It is important to check the battery right after you charge it because it will be warm enough to read correctly. If it is a cold battery this test will not work. Cleaning of the battery posts is always a good idea and putting some anti corrosion around the terminals is part of good battery care. Art

The city looks at the ownership of pipes alittle differently down here. The county/city provides you with a hook up at the edge of your property and the homeowner owns from the meter across the property and thruout the house. This also applies to the sewer lines so if it is broken after the meter its your dime. Good luck with the water issue Gerritt. Art

The best rod and reel combo is the one that fits your hand like a glove. It must be strong enough to control the fish that you are fishing for yet sensitive enough to feel the lightest bite. It needs to be light enough to cast all day without making your arm and wrist hurt. It most importantly need to be the combo that you want to fish with otherwise you have wasted your money. At different points in my life I have use this guideline to buy my equipment. The rods that I troll with, bobber fish or liver bait they can be heavier and less sensitive. The rods I cast with all day need to be light and the ones I finesse fish have to be very sensitive. Thru the years I have bought and given away many setups that I did not use because they were not just right and sat unused. So when you go shopping put together the combo in the store that you like then ask the price if it is to much then come back when you can afford it or talk the man down. If your new combo costs you 300 dollars and last only 10 years it is only 30.00 a year. Some of my set ups are 20+ years and still doing just fine. Finally as your taste in combos progresses and you find that some of your earlier combos are no longer used take them down to the water with you and find someone who would be thrilled to have your "special" combo for free so they can become hooked on fishing. Yea I guess threatening y'all with heat when its sub zero ain't much of a threat is it.....kind of like bringin a knife to a gun fight. Hows about I make it warm enough for Glen to fish nekkid? Of all the plumbin jobs frozen pipes are the worst. You already know that you will get wet and the area you are workin is below freezing so were is the joy it's just hard money. The good side is people are really grateful when they have water again. Art
