  1. Got out today since it wasn't -30 for a change. Still have to get runners on my trap so I'm not using it yet. Got to test out the new toy, Humminbird ICE45 flasher. Very impressed with it, to say the least. FYI - it is marking bottom but I think my reflection on the display prevented the camera from picking it up in the picture. We were on a lake that holds walleye, pike and perch. Almost right away my buddy Bryon had a good scrap with a pike. Turned out to be a nice 33" that we released without a picture. The walleye and perch moved in later in the afternoon and we managed a few of them. Here's my buddy Colin with a nice eye. My first walleye on the ice this season. We caught them on set lines and jigging spoons tipped with minnows. We were fishing a sand/weed flat in about 12-13FOW.
  2. I know Jocelyn at Angling Outfitters in Woodstock has a lot of selection and knows his stuff. From what I've read here, his prices are also very competitive.
  3. There is no substitution for time on the water and a willingness to experiment when things aren't working.
  4. I bought one too. They are definitely not over priced compared to Marcum or Vex. They are all in the same ballpark, marcum is the most expensive. If you buy a top of the line Vex, they even ding you extra for a case. I'm looking forward to putting it through its paces this winter. I like the fact it has a LCD display that shows depth and other function information from the graph.
  5. I'm also curious to know more about this. With regard to Dale's fish, judging by the pictures I can't help but think that it was as healthy as a muskie could be.... huge, fat, clean... and obviously a skilled hunter. But does she still contribute to the gene pool? Lac Seul is C&R only for all muskies so it is unlikely that I'll ever have to make that choice.
  6. great interview, thanks for posting.
  7. You'll be hard pressed to get a new vex for $300. The FL8 is about $350 and they go up from there. Marcum is similarly priced as the vex's. The best markum is nearly $600. The Humminbird ICE35 flasher is about $350 You can get this aquaview for $250 through cabelas Canada. It is not a flasher though, rather a vertical pixel graph but it is designed for ice fishing. Good luck.
  8. Canada customs told me I'd only have to pay 5% GTS at the boarder.
  9. Hey Bill, great hunt report. That's some interesting looking country for a hunt. Very rugged. I'm sure those grouse were mmmm mmmmmm good!
  10. Species and technique specific rods certainly are becoming a huge thing in the fishing rod industry. It makes sense and most major manufacturers are doing it now. I own several St.Croix rods and they make a great product. The $100 price point on the Mojo would put it on the lower end of Croix's line up but I'm sure it'll still be a great rod backed up by a good warranty.
  11. It has nothing to do with the dealer! This price is set by BRP. The dealer used to charge $50 and print the letter off from BRP's web site then the Government regs changed and now the letter has to come directly from BRP. Coincidentally, BRP decided that since people had to get it from them, they'd up the price to something ridiculous..... like, say, ohhhhh $350!!
  12. Oh I wasn't blaming the dealer at all...I did wonder if they were taking in some of the $350 though... and I know who requires the letter, and why. Just thinking out loud that $350 is a lot for BRP to print off a letter on a piece of paper saying there are no recalls. I have to wait until monday to get in touch with someone at at dealer in Minnesota. Hopefully they can print me one for a lot less $$!!
  13. Croix warranty has always been good to me. I've had to send in 2 rods and so far there's been no questions asked. One was an Avid and one was a Legend Elite though.
  14. Definitely not. We had a 115 tiller on an 18' ProV CE (no carpet, no rod locker, no livewell etc.) and it would top out at 43.
  15. Ya, no kidding! That would be awesome. What's the biggest tiller available now... 175? Imagine that power in your hand!
  16. Chicago is the team to watch in the next few years with all that young talent.... Campbell, Toews, Sharp, Kane, Versteeg, Bolland and Huet/Khabibulin in net. They could be building a dynasty right now.
  17. I'm not concerned about it personally..... except for the fact that in order for me to import a vehicle/snowmobile from the USA I must produce a document (the Recall letter) proving there are no outstanding recalls on the vehicle.
  18. Thanks for the info Bill, you've given me hope!
  19. The dealership I spoke with did mention that the regs have recently changed. But it is BOMBARDIER that is making the $350, not the dealership. I can see why a canadian dealer wouldn't want ppl going state side to buy but for Bombardier... they are selling a sled either way. In my case it is a private sale, however, I will still contact a US dealer and see if I can get the Recall letter down there for less. Of course then I'll have to see if one from the US is acceptable..... and I'm guessing it's not.
  20. It was just a guess. Depends how heavy the boat is maybe it'd be 40+mph with little gear/gas/guys. 35mph gets the job done though.
  21. depends how many guys and how much gear/gas you have in the boat but I'd guess 35mph.
  22. haha. I got a 2002 Ski-doo Grand Touring GS 600. Should be great for towing the fish trap and having my wife, Kelly, tag along with me this winter.
  23. It is a letter from the manufacturer stating that there are no recalls on the vehicle. The RIV (registrar of imported vehicles) requires this letter when you import a vehicle/snowmachine from the USA. forrest - it is a used sled so bombardier isn't making money from me there....... also, the dealership was able to confirm that there are no recalls on this sled.... so there is nothing for them to check out. The RIV just requires proof that there are NO recalls out on this sled before I can get a Ont. registration/licence etc. My rant was only directed at the price of this piece of paper, not the process by which a vehicle is imported into Canada.
