This will keep some boats in the water late this year!
OhioFisherman replied to OhioFisherman's topic in General Discussion
The bank brigade is still in the lead with an 8.45 fish, and with the storms this weekend it wasn't a boating weekend! Still like 40k people without power in our area, high wind took down a lot of trees and power lines. Just guessing that a rattle trap is still a go to bait for the fall walleye bite from shore. -

Actually it seems to have been an annual event since 2011, if you go to more on the heading you can see the yearly results and fish pictures. -
Ever have one of those moments?????????

Cast out a tube, feel a bump and set the hook, the rod doubles and the drag starts going, LOL and me following in the boat, it ain't no bass! The choices of really big fish here are a lot narrower usually, carp or catfish, that one turned out to be about a 35 pound carp. A few minutes later my buddy, also casting a tube hooks up with a really big one, just guessing at near 60 pounds, had to follow that one a lot farther on spinning gear and light line. Feel a bump, set the hook, and then have 40+ inches of mad muskie flying in the air alongside the boat? and it wasn't my hookset that got it out of the water! Cast out a jig and craw, feel a bump, set the hook, it ain't no bass! around 20 pounds of sheephead! Shiner fishing at a private pond, got my 8 inch chub on and just letting it swim around a look for trouble, it found it! Nothing but bass and bluegill in that pond and that bass was big, never landed it and never had another fight like it. -

Looks like a red horse sucker to me, most of my unexpected hook ups here had a big round mouth! LOL -

LOL, a shore fisherman in the lead! but I don't think a 7.45 walleye will hold it long? -
As near as I can tell his last post was 7/31/18, hope he is well.

" Anyone can participate from novice to professional angler and have a great time with a chance to fill the top 5 payout spots! " No need for ringers, it's a wide open event, and I am guessing some charter captains that spend a lot more time on Lake Erie may have an edge? Many years ago I went out with my dad and my brother for walleye one day, off in the distance I could see something that looked like an island, so I asked my brother what island was that? In a place I knew didn't have any, no island, boats, it was a circus, people casting, people trolling and seemingly not enough sense to stay out of each others way. Luck will still be a factor! Ya, weather will be a factor, Erie can get dicey quick, and this time of year it's no joke. -

I don't know much about them myself grim, but it looks like a good boat for walleye fishing here on Lake Erie. They get some real pigs on Erie here this time of year, it will be interesting to see how big of a fish wins it? -
After watching a bunch of tournament videos and seeing how closely those guys are glued to their depth finder screens learning all you can about them seems like a very good idea!

NF - Remote Car Starters - Hamilton
OhioFisherman replied to Raycaster's topic in General Discussion
Brian, one of the very few businesses in my tiny town is a radio shop and my son used to work for him part time. I am pretty sure they make them for just about any vehicle, his Christmas rush was mostly remote starters and installs. -

https://files.ontario.ca/environment-and-energy/fishing/2016/2016_Licence_Information_and_Fees_English.pdf " Catch a fish by impaling or snagging it with a hook through any part of the body other than the mouth – any fish hooked in this way must be released immediately. " Just from what I have seen here in Ohio during the spring walleye run in the rivers? If your walleye isn't hooked in the mouth? You better release it, the guy fishing next to you may be a game warden and you will be cited for snagging.

I can understand the concern, and it's probably not a good idea to introduce a carnivorous fish, which probably includes most of them to waters they are not native to. Most fish eat smaller fish, and even trout are carnivores, I had caught steelhead with perch in their bellies, so I would assume the would also eat small walleye, or any other smaller species, so no concern when they stock them in Lake Erie? It's sort of like the Salmon and Striper stocking tried in lakes here, they are bigger aggressive carnivores that will compete with native species for food and some may suffer? Who gets to make that call? From a pessimistic view, if you introduce a species that doesn't require annual stocking you eliminate fishery workers jobs?

brush cutting blade on a weed trimmer
OhioFisherman replied to super dave's topic in General Discussion
If I had to cut a ton of brush, maybe every year? I wouldn't beat up a weed wacker doing it, those brush blades are probably fine or an occasional small job but intensive work? Like Art says that tool might be your best bet, and maybe you can find a used one cheap? https://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200641918_200641918 This one isn't quite as pricey, but still a bit of sticker shock? -
" The salmon run is the time when salmon, which have migrated from the ocean, swim to the upper reaches of rivers where they spawn on gravel beds. After spawning, all Pacific salmon and most Atlantic salmon die, and the salmon life cycle starts over again. ... When they have matured, they return to the rivers to spawn. Salmon run - Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salmon_run " Seems nice to see people release fish to spawn that are going to die anyway?

Exactly, I have some issues with some aspects of tournament fishing, and I haven't really been able to fish for nearly 15 years, but bass fishing here in Ohio got a heck of a lot better once they stopped keeping so many of them. I would much rather see catch and release than buckets or stringers of dead fish.
