  1. Mike, I have never seen one in the wild myself. There has been a few news reports over the years here of an occasional catch, but very few and very far between. I watched a video earlier this year of Mark Zona and Jordan Lee fishing Lake St. Clair, Jordan hooked one the estimated to be around 100 pounds, he played it for a long time but lost it.
  2. http://www.striperspace.com/freshwater_stripers.html Evidently they can spawn successfully if the right conditions are present.
  3. https://www.bassmaster.com/slideshow/fizzing-fish-step-step-how The club I fished with had a tournament on Sandusky Bay one year and we limited ourselves to the bay itself. There was a much larger tournament going on at the same time from the same city ramp, they had no limits on their area and most made the run out to the deeper Lake Erie waters. We were coming back to the ramp shortly after their weigh in was finished and noticed seagulls floating around pecking on fish struggling on the surface, it was the smallies from their weigh in, and a lot were in the 4-5 pound range, it was a sick sight!
  4. Bends Mender Deflator Needle That may give you a name to look for? And this? Fish Life Fizz Needles 2pk
  5. Glad it went well for you! I remember a couple new to me lakes I never did figure out.
  6. https://www.toledozoo.org/pressreleases/083018sturgeon Hope that works out! They might need more than 3000 though?
  7. LOL, I bought a brand new 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath split level home in a western Cleveland area burb in 1975 for 28,900. Yes, there is something scary about seeing young people spending that much for a car now!
  8. dave, I can't remember ever seeing one, walleye and " blue pike " were pretty much gone from this area except for the western basin spawning river by the time I was young, which led to fishing trips to Ontario. Our first was in 1957, because dad couldn't catch walleye here. Plenty of fuel for a debate out there though? Blue Pike Blue pike extinct, but did they ever really exist? 9. Well we tried! Glad that worked out for you.
  10. When I was young my dad's brother in law and a friend of his stopped by on the way home from an early spring trip to the Sandusky river here for the spring walleye run, they didn't get any walleye, but had a cooler full of white bass that must have been pushing 2 pounds apiece. I have never seen them consistently so big again, a 4 pounder would be huge! Striper - wiper just more competition for food for existing natural species, like introducing smallies into some of those trout waters? I thought the salmon stocking in lake erie here was misdirected, they might have been better off stocking pike and ski which used too be a lot more common here.
  11. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_walleye Just a different coloration?
  12. LOL, the first regular trucking company I worked for went out of business in 1976, so I decided to apply to be a fireman in my suburban community, there wasn't a building over 3 floors high. They called and told me the training would be done at Cleveland's fire training school and I would have to jump out of a like 90 foot high tower into a net. Dude no fire behind me and no jump! Except for that it would have been a great job for someone that liked to fish! 24 hours on duty and 48 hours off!
  13. LOL, Lew I graduated from high school in June of 69, my first full time job paid like 3.18 an hour, I thought that was good money back then, you could still buy a new car for 3 grand.
  14. Walleye prices here are roughly 92 times higher, to bad wages didn't keep up?

  16. grim, just thinking if the previous owner was having trouble adapting to a baitcaster he might have cranked that knob down trying to prevent backlashes? When I first got sick I bought 3 of those lefties, 4- 5- 6- series from a guy on ebay, displays and never fished. I put line on a couple of them but only used one once, my hands stopped working well enough for me to use a baitcaster without tossing it overboard.
  17. I don't suppose it is possible for the spool adjustment knob to be cranked down too hard?
  18. And to wander a bit 2018 Bassmaster LIVE at St. Lawrence River - Sunday - 2018 Huk Bassmaster Elite at St. Lawrence River presented by Black Velvet - Bassmaster BassCam 114 20#+ limits at the scales?
  19. Do wipers even occur naturally? Just my understanding that they are stocked and can't spawn ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Striped_bass " In Canada, the province of Quebec designated the striped bass population of the Saint Lawrence as extirpated in 1996. Analysis of available data implicated overfishing and dredging in the disappearance. In 2002, a reintroduction program was successful.[15][16] " ? Nature finds a way ?
  20. He didn't get to be a fishing god by being grumpy!
  21. Over the years the state here made a lot of ponds to get dirt to build highway overpasses, most range in size from 2 - 10 acres and were built of private land near the intended overpass site. It used to be pretty easy to get permission to fish them, but people ruined that for the reasons you mentioned and lawsuits over drowning deaths. Too many people sneaking in late at night for a beer party - skinny dipping fest.
  22. Akri, TSC or any farm supply company should have them ... Search Results for hypodermic needles at Tractor Supply Co. Something like this should work? Producer's Pride Disposable Needle, 22G x 1, Pack of 24 at Tractor Supply Co. Looked at google images of that lake, some very clear water and not many of any shoreline weed - lilies, the drop offs look pretty clear to me, wind and waves might make them harder to see. No idea how your weather is there, but pushing 90 here for the next 7 days, still summer conditions? Like Art mentioned a tube or senko might work anywhere, a fluke style bait in shallow early in the morning might nail fish feeding on baitfish that moved towards shore overnight. Looks like a lot of homes and docks there if they have lights on boat houses or docks those will attract baitfish at night, and bigger fish feeding on them. It's a puzzle with a short time limit?
  23. Better to error on the side of caution? We get the weather warnings on the news, my small township and most in the area have tornado sirens, some of those storms miss us and cause havoc 5-10 miles away.
  24. Akri, win - lose - draw, let us know how you do, I always have an interest in how people pick apart new waters.
