I want to try this lake in Haliburton ( Kashawigamog ) but can't find much info on it. Can anyone steer me towards a good launch ramp of provide any info on the lake. I hear it is a deep water lake with Cisco forage? thanks,

Good lake but can be quite windswept at times. Walleye. large/smallmouth, Musky and a few Pike can be found in there.
-
Sounds like Little Doe next to Katrine. Haven't fished there but 3-Mile lake nearby is a fine lake. Plenty of smallies and a few Walleye. We would work any of the well marked shoals and the best luck came trolling anything over a 10' weed flat. Trolled topwaters and small shallow shad-raps with great success- especially in mid to late August.

Spent a few hours on Muskoka yesterday- bass were on fire. Pike are down deep finally but can easily be trolled up with deep running cranks. Walleye are there but have to be found- not easy, best luck with them is evening and early night trolling. Lots of good fish of all species should be found in the river itself- we regularly fish from the mouth up to Santa's village. Once saw a legit 30lb Pike from the river- a real monster!

Crankbait Fishing for walleye and smallmouth bass
musky66 replied to 007's topic in General Discussion
I use 80lb flor for Walleye cranking when Pike are present.I think it is probably overkill but I do alright with trolling up Walleye with no fear of a Pike ( or even Musky ) bite off. I do upgrade to 130lb floro when targetting Musky specifically though. -
Spent a week there at beginning of July. Fishing was tough for me. Targeted mainly Muskt- caught only 3- largest around 40/42" Caught a couple of Walleye casting in shallow weeds for Musky and a few bass as well.

Floro rocks! I use 130 for Musky and 80 for Pike and Walleye. I don't need it for Walleye but there are also Pike or Musky where I Walleye fish- the floro leader doesn't seem to scare off the Walleye I am casting or trolling for! You should see the damage a house cat will do to braid!

Had a bulge like that in my side wall once- trailer tires are crap!
-
Damn birds- soon Osprey and Bald Eagles will be a nuisance like the Cormorant! LOL, I was riding my sled on Cook Bay this winter and am positive I saw an Eagle flying- it was way to big for a Hawk! Way cool

42" Pike was my largest from Lake Muskoka last season but I have seen much larger ones in there!
-
I tye my own 80 lb test floro leaders for Pike and use them for Walleye as well. It may be overkill for the latter but it prevents against Pike bite offs where I fish. I mostly troll for Walleye with Smithwicks or Rapala's and the Walleye don't seem to mind the leader. I tye my main line to a swivel on the leader.

I would say if you are close to the max hp rating of the boat it is unnecessary. I installed one on mine and don't think it was worth the money. Mine came with speed caps to cover the mounting holes- well the speed caps get lost pretty quick durring use. I e-mailed the company and they advised me to use glue next time- these instructions were not on the package- I will not endorse their product.

Yep, always first or second. Mike Reid does well also.

1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Vs. Whitetail Deer
musky66 replied to brandon's topic in General Discussion
Hit a deer in my '96 Grand Cherokee outside of Peterborough a few years back- dented driver fender, busted the grill and headlight but still drivable. Insurance fixed it after I specified that the deer hit me and not the other way around! I am still driving her with over 267,ooo kms. Motor is the best piece of the vehicle- 5.2 litre with 4 oil changes a year with synthetic oil. Good luck! When doesn't a Jeep need a brake job! -
Sorry for your loss Lew, but thanks for the post- it helps us remember what is important in life and just how precious things can be.

I have been in it several times in the past- I have done fairly well some years and poorly others. It seems the same few guys win it every year or place very high- they obviously know the lake very well! No time for it this year- I will be interested to know the results as well. Bet it was won by someone from Muskoka bassmasters!
-
I haven't found a crimp and crimping pliers that I feel comfortable with so I prefer to use a 'leader knot'- works well witht he heavier sizes....a dab of crazy glue keeps it snuged up.
-
No visability problems for Musky! If you use a swivel, it should be at the end closest to the main line. Use a good quality snap at the lure end- small as you can get away with. I use 130 lb for 'Ski, 80 lb for Pike and Walleye where I fear pike bite-offs.
-
I wonder if the lakes Pike and Musky are keying on Crappie as a forage species? Methinks I will try some similiar coloured lures in the kawarthas this season!
-
Usually when I'm there early in the year- I do not find any unmarked rocks, but as the season wears on and the water level drops...look out! I found 3 new rocks last summer, luckily only at trolling speeds!
-
I've been there a few times and have had some sucess with Pike. There are launches at the marina's at the end of Healy Lake road- not great or cheap, but it's where I want to fish. For Pike I would find the weed area's, just like anywhere else. My best luck came in Blackstone Harbor
