how do i get my girlfriend more interested in fishing????
huey graphite replied to chandru's topic in General Discussion
I somehow managed to find and marry the only Newfie girl that doesn't have fishing running though her veins. Still waiting on the chest waders her father promised me as a dowrey. Have to agree with the others......keep it short and sweet and go for quantity. Good Luck! -
Not a copout......anyone poaching needs to be held accountable. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Pehaps a fine is the best way to educate. In his post he says "most" and therefore is not painting them all with the same brush. I took his post as personal observation and not based on proven fact.

Roy, That pic on the left (winter scene) in beautiful. Is that your work?

Anyone know if there is a run of salmon started yet. I am in this area most often in the summer and have never fished the fall salmon run. I'm going to be there for the long weekend and just wondering if now is the time. If not in the river then perhaps off the peir at the mouth. Thanks in advance! HG

Strong....but probably accurate. I see nothing offensive in his post. As a matter of fact it strikes me as positive as he suggests educating those who are unaware of our limits perhaps due to a language/cultural barrier.

1) I'm convinced there is something in Canada's favourite coffee (perhaps even added intentionally) that is addictive other than just the caffeinne. 2) The line-ups at drive-thru for coffee shops and restaurants is a testament to just how lazy our society is becoming.

Questions about fishing The Bay of Fundy.
huey graphite replied to kedzierski's topic in General Discussion
The Bay of Fundy is so beautiful. Have been there but never fished it so can't offer any advice. Please take pictures and post a report. Good luck! -
That'll be perfect chop fer cod jiggin'

That's a shame. Hope he gets it back. Can you tell us whereabouts it was taken from?

No one tells a Newfie joke better than a Newfie and I heard this one from my Newfie father-in-law. I've been sworn in but it's just not the same. An American tourist asks a Newfoundlander: "Why do Scuba Divers always fall backwards off their boats into the water?" To which the Newfoundlander replies: "If they fell forwards they'd still be in the friggin' boat."

Great pics Steve. That last pic shows a walleye with a large gash (in your left hand). Any idea what might have caused that?

Lots of money!..........not much brains.

Posted this recipe for Sheepshead a week or two ago. Worth repeating. ....."The best way to cook sheephead is wrapped in horse manure, then, unwrap it and throw the sheephead away and eat the horse manure."

If your only option now is to replace and you've got nothing to lose, why not open it up and have a look for anything obvious (burnt components, water damage, fuses etc.) If you can take a quality digital pic and post it, I can give you some assistance in troubleshooting.

Hey Dan, Was down fishing Port Maitland 2 weekends ago on a Saturday Morning. Tried the mouth on the east side 1st off the rocks. Caught nothing and saw nothing caught by the other 15 or so boats there. Decided to move to the opposite side just off the west end of the lighthouse in 19' of water and faired a little better. Caught 15 in about 2 hours of which only 6 were keepers. Used a pickerel rig. I think the perch are only in at Port Maitland for a very short period of time. I agree with others though, Fishmaster will put you on the walleye. Good Luck.

Should have punched it in the mouth (the walleye, not the CO)

So sorry for your loss Wayne. She was taken at a young age. The pics you posted will remain some of your memories of happier times I'm sure.

Cool pics. Too bad we couldn't train them to take down cormorants.

Niagara has so many fishing opportunities. This is why I miss living there so much.

damn near wet myself when I read it. ....."The best way to cook sheephead is wrapped in horse manure, then, unwrap it and throw the sheephead away and eat the horse manure."

.....or setting a trap to keep the mainlanders out.

I love the original and Cajun fish crisp. Uncle Bucks original and extra spicy (Bass Pro Shops) are equally good. Tried Chronzy’s mix for the 1st time in the spring and was pretty good…..less flavourful for those who prefer the natural taste of the fish without disguising it. A good alternative to batter that I found here on OFC a few years ago is the following recipe; Cut fish into 1” cubes Wrap in bacon strips Put on Skewer (5 or 6) Cover in Zesty Italian dressing Cover with original BBQ sauce Cook on BBQ or in oven (can’t remember temp or how long) This recipe is delicious and is better for larger walleye that we catch on Erie as they tend to have a little more fishier taste.

Thanks Uncle Buck!

I have Friday morning open and if the weather co-operates, hope to get the boat out for the 1st time this year (way overdue). I’m trying to decide on where to go. I’ll have about 5 hours. I’m considering launching at Port Dalhousie but have only ever fished there from shore in the fall on a couple of occasions. Alternatively, I could go to Hamilton Harbour. Never fished there either but am curious to try. I have a 14ft Lund with 20hp Yamaha, fishfinder, trolling motor, in-line planar (downrigger is currently out of service). Any opinions/info. regarding opportunities at either location would be appreciated. It’s not often I get out so just want to make sure I make the most of it. Fifty Point would be the closest spot for me but as far as I know, this time of year there is not much in the area.

When I was a kid growing up in Niagara I used to pester my parents to let me go fishing with my older brother down in the whirlpool in the lower Niagara. Finally at around the age of 14 they agreed. It was quite a thrill for me. When we reached the bottom of the long trail, I noticed several guys fishing in waders with fishing vests, noodle rods, hats etc. We had a spinning setup with a Canadian Tire bag with a few spoons. My brother said "we call those guys huey graphites". I guess it's kind of like the guy that goes golfing for the 1st time with hundreds of dollars spent on NIKE clothing and gear........doesn't necessarily mean they'll score better. When I regstered, it was the 1st thing to come to mind.
