  1. That one was foul hooked, so they turned it loose since it wasn't caught 'legally'. I think I read that fish turned up dead not too long ago, little fuzzy about that though
  2. Yeah, its two months old, but the last I had read on it was that they were not going to submit it for one reason or another for the record. The application for the record was just filed yesterday I think.
  3. Hey guys, been years since I have hit the Salmon run in Port Hope and/ or Bowmanville. When do they usually start running? I usually miss it (and may have again this year, lol). Thanks
  4. Cool man, glad the fishing was good. It definitely is a great place to fish, even when the fishing is bad.
  5. Field and Stream was running a contest and it was verified by one of their officials from what I understand.
  6. http://fishinghistory.blogspot.com/2009/09...ived-world.html! Crazy. Would tie George Perry's record that has stood for 70 some years if it is counted as valid. Was caught on a BlueGill. The craziest part is that Japan considers bass an invasive species and is trying to rid their waters of them. We'll see what happens, I don't know how you verify this record, especially from half way across the world more than two months after the fish was caught. Either way, it can't match the mystique of Perry's catch, at least not in my opinion... Here is a pic of Perry and his Bass (which I had forgotten existed) Cool write up on Perry and his bass
  7. I didn't actually catch any fish on it, but from everything I've seen from casting and getting snagged up yesterday, it is still fine. I think I have 2 or 3 more rolls of it too.
  8. Check out my post on Long Lake. It is in the Kawartha Highlands Park, which is mostly crown land with a few cottages. Tons of good fishing, low pressure and lots of camping. most of the water is smaller so it is great for Canoeing.
  9. Yeah, wasn't clear on that. I just walked the portage to check it out, didn't actually portage. I stayed on long. I'm thinking of a way to put wheels on my boat, but that is a project for the winter or something. That would be a one man portage though with wheels on the boat.
  10. No doubt. It has a 3.3 MP camera and I knew it was decent, but I really feel like it was great. I'm shocked. I almost dropped it over the side a couple of times, which would have been bad... ha.
  11. There are a couple of Marinas on Chemong Lake in Bridgenorth that rent boats. I can't remember the price, but I found it to be cheaper than most, but I haven't rented a boat in a couple of years so I don't remember exactly.
  12. What kind of waders? What purpose? There are so many kinds and uses, its hard to say. 69.99 for regular old rubber chest waders is a good deal. If you are going cold water, Neoprene is probably what you want.
  13. Lol, I never let anyone else do it because I can't be held responsible for my reaction if something goes wrong.... lol.
  14. This if my first photo report and probably my last full day of fishing for the season. I was at Long Lake, in the Kawartha Highlands near Apsley. Last time I was here was two years ago and I had an incredible day. Hauled in three largemouth over 3 pounds and a small mouth that was almost five pounds. These pics shocked me at the quality since they were taken with my Blackberry Storm. I rolled out of bed to semi-sunny skies in Peterborough, but as I traveled further toward Apsley, the skies were looking pretty bleak. In fact the temperature had dropped to 15 (18 in Ptbo) and even was spitting rain on my as I traveled up highway 28. Needless to say I wasn't thrilled. When I got to the boat launch, this is what it looked like... Since the weatherman said it was going to be 23 and sunny, I was sorely disappointed. With the chop on the water, courtesy of the breeze, I decided to run to Apsley to pick up a long sleeve shirt, presumably the only XL that was for sale in town today and it looked like two stores were open. After picking up some warmth, I headed back to the lake to launch. It was still a little dreary, but if you've been to the Kawartha Highlands, it is always a place full of stunning scenery. Naturally, I was heading into the wind, going three horses strong in my 12 ft. tinner. I puttered around and realized fighting the chop was going to be a battle all day. I fished around in the small bay near the marina and found nothing that the fish or I liked. I headed up the main body of the lake, and after about an hour, the Lord finally decided to give me a glimpse of sunlight. After fshing away the morning, I came to the portage to Buzzard Lake The guy at the store told me it was 540 meters from lake to lake, so I counted it by steps... right around 500 steps for me... I don't think my stride is a meter? Here are some more pics of Buzzard... I left the portage and headed a little further north to where Long turns into Loucks Lake with the plan to let the wind drift my back the way I had come, fishing as I go. I pulled out the bait caster and promptly got some action... There was one bright spot in the experience to this point... I brought along an old spool of Berkley TriMax, 17lb test I had picked up in a huge lot of line off of ebay that I had bought for some old wood spools that were included, with this being a bonus. I stripped off the old 12lb test line and set up to spool my bait caster on the water. I find this to be a really neat setup from this spool of line, it has a clip on case so you can just clip it on your rod and reel. Makes things easier for sure, I'll be using this for spooling from now on... As i drifted along, I finally got some bots on old reliable, the smoke colored senko. One lucky cast, wait... wait... set the hook and... That pretty much summed up the day. I did catch a half dozen more, none more than a pound. I need to do some reading on finding bass in the wind because it really made for a huge challenge for the day. I headed in early, my flat bottom 12 footer wasn't made to deal with the wind, so when it picked up, I packed up. All in all it was a great day, as is any day spent on the water as opposed to spent in the cubicle... [/size]
  15. My in laws go to Cuba for $400-500 week all inclusive for what you are talking a bout, they book their trips last minute. If you can do that, you save a ton I guess (I've never been)
  16. Line-X is good too, but there are a bunch of them now I think
  17. Yes, yes and yes. That will be priority number one. There are actually only two that have never been on the water before in some capacity. We will be all saftied up, have no fear. For that reason we will be in a spot with little to no traffic, very small water, ect. ect. Will definitely be a learning experience.
  18. I'm a youth pastor in Peterborough and have decided to take some of my faithful boys camping as a reward for their faithfulness to church. Two of these boys have never known their father and ride to church on a bus and this will be their first adventure out into the bush camping (Kawartha Highlands). There are three others going with me, so their will be seven of us altogether. I have one canoe and my jon boat set up and ready to go and I need another canoe. There is an outside chance I have on lined up to borrow from a fellow I work with, but if that falls through, anyone know of a cheap place to rent a canoe in the Kawartas? Not much of a canoe man myself (flipped the last one I was in so I bought a jon boat, lol), any info is greatly appreciated.
  19. So I was cruising through Oshawa today and decided to stop at Gagnons Sports and pick up some bass baits. Grabbed some of the norm to replenish the tackle box, but also picked up a couple of Booyah Baits. Double bladed spinner and a boogee bait as well. Figured they were worth a try. Have some kind of patented hook technology, which is interesting as well. I've heard/ seen Booyah and have never heard anything bad about them, thought they were worth a try. Any feedback on them? Anyone love/ hate them? I was disappointed that they are owned by Pradco though, they have ruined a couple of bait companies for me (Heddon/ Arbogast) because I find the construction poor...
  20. The best ones for me recently have been Mizmo and the Bass Pro brand. I only fished the Mizmo ones because the tackle shop I was at didn't ahve the bass pro. I'm sure tournament anglers might say different, but I find most the same. My favorite color is grey with black and silver flake. (or something close to that)
  21. Fishing games haven't advanced since the old Sega Bass Fishing, whcih was good for its time. I just tried the newest fishing frenzy game from Rapala and was bored after a few casts. Sucked. Was really disappointed.
  22. I fish tubes Texas rigged with a 1/4 or 1/8 ounce bullet depending on conditions and a 3/0 4/0 hook. Can't go wrong. I've caught bass on tubes with ever retrieve imaginable. You really can't fish them wrong
  23. Haha - that's awesome. I read an article from Hank Parker in Bassin' like 15+ years ago with the same results... that's why I always use the The Palomar Knot.
  24. I've done well on Chartruese colored, but I don't think I've ever tied any pink lure on my line... lol. Maybe I'm not man enough to fish with pink... haha.
