  1. You should be able to land a fish on that set-up. You'd want to release most fish over 10lbs, but if you get a little one it should be good to eat. If you're expecting wide open spaces, you'll be unpleaseantly surprised. Bring your shoulderpads for the combat pier fishing... Arrive well after dark 11:00pm+ or very early in the morning 4:00am-7:00am for your best chance at hooking up. Glow spoons and rattling crankbaits get the nod... Tony
  2. Did you order Digital Cable? I think it is only available on digital cable, not the classic analogue cable. Starchoice and Express-VU offer it now I believe. Or FTA...
  3. Keep us posted on any results from the inquiry...This is just another example of the unkept promises in our Government, particularly relating to our natural resources. It's a shame...really. Tony
  4. I see the difference as recreational anglers vs hardcore anglers. Recreational anglers are your fair-weather, weekend warrior, vacation only fishing, type people. Hardcore anglers live life around fishing. Everything else that you mentioned surrounding the activity of fishing spans across both categories. If you think about it, even hardcore guys will often remember the comraderie or beautiful surroundings more than actual fish in a given trip... Tony
  5. Looking forward to reading that issue... Each party will not fulfill their pre-election promises, so if I was to vote for any party, I guess I would vote for the one lying to me about improving the fishery over any others But it is a toss up between selecting 'None of the above' vs a party that is blatantly lying to me. Tony
  6. I heard they've been pounding them at sunset
  7. Great read, thanks for sharing that Justin. Tony
  8. Great looking fish Squid, sounds like a great day on the water. Tony
  9. Good fishing man! Some beauty Coho's in the mix there. Good talkin' to you at the Off the wall yesterday too! See you around. Tony
  10. Unless you can get there when the fish first enter the rivers (when they do strike flies, jigs, roe), they will not be easily caught. Most people just drift their line into the mouth of the fish. Called 'lining' or ethical snagging by others Tony
  11. Funny story, thanks for sharing. It's amazing no matter how much we evolve, we still have those caveman tendencies swimming around in our subconcious
  12. Atta boy! Great looking fish...now stop smiling Tony
  13. Oh ok taper, yeah I haven't fished the French much myself. I'll be giving it a shot on the West Arm at Lakair this September, heard only good things about the area. I think a lot of people haven't responded because the initial request for trip recommendations was pretty vague. FinS, Solopaddler are your guys for the area in NW Quebec/Ontario border. I think they both have family cottages up there. Good luck in your search, let us know what you finally decide on. Tony
  14. Interesting...I have found Bronte to be hot earlier than the shipping canal. Might have to spend some time there! Tony
  15. If you've seen them jumping and are certain that they are Salmon (and not Carp) then you know the fish are there and it is just a matter of fine tuning your presentation until something works. Salmon are odd in that they will be caught on spoons one day but only plugs the next, right at the surface one day but ticking bottom the next, slow presentation one day but a jerky and erratic one the next. See what I am getting at? there are a lot of variables to tweak, but also, some days are just better than others. Keep at it, you'll hook up! Chartreuse/Green little cleos in the 3/4 oz size are one of my favorites for dawn and dusk, not to leave out the famous Rapala J13 in Chartreuse/Silver, Orange/Gold or Firetiger. Silver/Blue Rattling Rapalas at night and glow spoons would round out a good sample of lures to try for Salmon. Tony
  16. Time to hit the piers for Salmon anyway Tony
  17. The Internet is an amazing tool
  18. True, the rocks on the west side of the rivermouth are open year-round though. Tony
  19. I think it is the employers responsibility to handle vacation pay, not the Government. I actually envy people who are entrepreneurs because you don't have a boss breathing down your neck and you likely don't work in a cubicle. However, most entrepreneurs work longer hours and vacation is scarce compared to the typical 9-5 wage slave. I guess we can't have the best of both worlds eh? Tony
  20. Have you thought about chartering a boat on Lake Ontario? (Fishing for Chinook and Coho Salmon, Rainbow Trout and the possibility of catching an Atlantic Salmon, Lake Trout or Brown Trout ) If you have a large group (eg more than 10) many of the operations can accomodate that with more than 1 boat. The best part is, all of the stress and planning is elminated, instead you can enjoy this short and precious time catching up with family in-between reeling in fish. You could even have the charter supply food and drinks (including Beer on tap if you wanted) They also guarantee fish and if you go Saturday, you even have a chance at catching a derby winning fish as it is the last day of the Great Ontario Salmon Derby ( http://www.sportsmensshows.com/SalmonDerby/index.html ) A starting point... http://www.salmonexpress.com and if they are booked ask for a referral. Also there is a link to Charter Boats in the link above for the Salmon Derby. Tony
  21. Misfish...what the!? ... Share your passion with everyone Anatz, even if it makes them sick... All I hear all the time from non-fisher folk is junk about the latest 'reality' TV show, deadbeat spouse or parent, someone's spoiled kids acting up, or what the latest tragedy/castastrophe/murder was on the news. Fishing is like therapy when compared to all the other 'noise' Tony
  22. Good stuff solo, nice of you to be so helpful, I'm sure your uncle is grateful! Now, when do we get to come up and get a 'tour' of the lake *ahem* property Tony
  23. I believe it includes Satutory holidays, but not sick days Cliff. And yes, consider yourself above average in terms of time away from work.
  24. Yep, hit or miss as fatherof3 and MTP say, you just gotta be persistant. Some years I have gone 3 or 4 trips getting skunked, but then get nights that you get 5 or 6 fish, it's all timing, and nobody can say for sure when a good time to go is. You can't catch 'em when you're logged into OFC though, so get out there! (well maybe if you have a cell phone with internet or similar device! ) Tony
  25. That's a pretty wide area with thousands of camps/resorts. I wouldn't know where to begin...Lakair?! hehe Tony
