  1. Cabunklement. That's a new one for me! LOL Called them Birdsnests or "Professional overruns" up here! LOL.
  2. This is really nothing new if you are used to updating navionics card. Sometimes Navionics has lost the rites to data they were using for their maps and whenm updating even your cards, you will lose data. It is a stretch but we paid for the use of a service and not necessarily the maps so they may be able to get around laws that way. Most of the information they use to create maps for Canadian waters is not owned by Navionics or their parent company.
  3. Pretty sure the user manual will state to ensure the area is well ventilated. Meaning, open the compartment it is in before plugging it in.
  4. With the MKA-47, the motor slides into the bracket, so you would have to be able to drill and tap a hole on one side for the bolt that holds it together. There are other quick release mounts out there though. Maybe you can find one that will work for you without many modifications at all.
  5. Dad managed to launch his boat with the transom saver still attached to the motor!
  6. Saw a Kia Soul one day with a trailer that did not belong on the back of it. Figured, whatever, probably just a 16-17 foot tin tiller. Nope. Backs down the steel grated ramp and proceeds to put an 18.5 foot Four winns bow rider on the trailer. The squealing that those tires made was hilarious.. A couple of years ago, I get to the free launch in town at about 7:30 in the morning. There is a guy sitting at the ramp with the trailer tires just touching the water, the TM is sticking straight up in the air (assuming a GPS enable one that he wants to get the GPS lock on) with the boat still on the trailer. I figure, I've got time to unhook everything and by the time I am done, he will be gone. Well...I was wrong. I finish moving everything and he's literally sitting there waiting now. Not doing a damn thing so I go over and ask what he's doing... Before I get an answer, a car comes peeling into the ramp, stops in front of the boat and a guy hops out. what felt like an eternity was probably 5 minutes but this guy made three trips to his car, then parked his care before backing this guy in and clearing the ramp. All in all, I was there for 20 minutes and this guy never moved... And then there are the stupid things I've done in a rush. The one that I still shake my shed at is why I only undid one transom strap?
  7. Just a thought, A lot of guys who run high performance bass rigs will used the universal MKA-47 or something similar and cut it to work with the area they have to work with. It's isn't the greats option but could save you a little time and frustration. And what type of boat are you talking about? Did you have a TM on it before? I ask because the Terrova base is probably one of the smaller ones made.
  8. I had alligator clips on them but quick release cables would have worked good too. My father on the other hand, just hooked up and then removed his charger. The clips I had were pretty much these but they were copper instead of plated. https://www.princessauto.com/en/detail/2-pc-10a-alligator-clips/A-p8000756e
  9. My MK330 was pretty heavy which is why I left it out of the boat. My dad does the same thing with his boat/charger. My advice, leave it out. If you really want it on the boat, you can extend the leads and mount it somewhere else.
  10. I ran Group 27 interstates with a 160 RC for 2 seasons. They weren't as big as I wanted (29's have an RC of 210 which I would have been happier with) but did work most of the time. On a good tourney day, they would be showing a charge of about 50% when I was done. If conditions were worse and required a heavier use, I probably would have discharged the battery to much. My recommendation is do not run a terrova on group 24's unless you find one with a huge RC of over 200 ( I do not think they make them). The new boat will be running an ultrex with group 31's
  11. There are no questions on a fishing forum you should be sorry about. That is what they are for. Yes, a bait cast reel and a Spin cast are different beast. You should get more control and better drag from a bait caster any day of the week. for what you are looking for, a bait caster would help you with Bass and Pike. You can do pretty much anything you need to with a spinning rod for Walleye and pinfish. IMO, Stay away from those combo's at CTC. and jump all over the offer above from Darkwater. I do not know enough to make an educated assessment of Piscifun and Kastking reels but at least the kastking reels seem to be getting alright reviews. I personally fish Shimano but I also do not have a bait caster under $200 so can't help you much there. My recommendations to anyone trying to start are: 1. Spend as much as you can on your first one as the better the quality the reel, the better experience you will have. (This rolls into item number 2) 2. Find something that has a dual braking system. I believe the Pro Qualifier has centrifugal and magnetic brakes. This is an excellent setup. set the centrifugal brakes to 2 and then make adjustments on the magnetic brakes. 3. understand how to set this thing up. you have a cast control cap to adjust side to side play in the spool, brakes to control the speed of the spool and a drag start that needs to be adjusted. 4. Find someone to show you how to makes these adjustments. It isn't terribly hard but it helps with the learning curve. 5. USE CHEA{ LINE! You're going to ruin some line when you first start. I like Berkley Big game in 12-15lb test. You can get a 900yard spool for like $10.00 and it'll last you forever. The larger line diameter will also help with digging out birds nests. Good luck!
  12. I wouldn't even add the charger to the front of the boat, you are already adding more weight up there with the second battery. I had bought a used charger and the previos owner had installed alligator clips on it so I mounted it to the wall and attached the leads when I needed to charge. Without seeing the compartment, I am afraid I can't provide any options for you. I would start by pulling out one of the screws that holds the current battery tray in and buying a few that are the same length as what is there. If the box is centered in the hull, you should be able to fasten another battery tray beside the one you have without any issues but again, without seeing the compartment, it is hard to provide advice.
  13. Yup, put batteries in, bolt TM on, check fuse is the right size (if it has a breaker, even better) and hook it up. Your pretty much much good to go except you may have to drill some new holes. At least I did as the Terrova base is not as long as the MG or MK cable driven ones. Which is why I recommended the quick release bracket I did. But your call, literally any marina should be able to do this if you don’t want to tackle it yourself. It’s nit hard at all.
  14. If you have room for both up front, whatever is in the boat will more than likely be fine (I’d assume 8AWG). Breaker/fuse will already be there since it’s pretty much mandatory for a Tm. You just have to double check the size. As for for not being comfortable, I hear you. It isn’t a terribly hard job though at all considering your wiring is all up front. Because of this, I don’t think any marina with a mechanic would have an issue installing this in under an hour. Two tops if they are really slow at working.
  15. Yup, tinned copper is the way to go. I bought mine at a marine supply shop in Ottawa (the chandlery) and got everything to make it water tight there as well. Akrisoner, The nice thing about redoing your whole boat is you'll know exactly where to look if you ever have problems. Not an easy task but well worth it if you have the time.
  16. It has more to do with the length of the wire than the gauge of the wire. 1, you have the concern of voltage drop. The longer the wire, the larger gauge you want to combat this. 2. As you pointed out, the amp draw of the item. You want to ensure that the wire can accommodate the amps the device requires without melting the shield and starting a fire. Both of these reasons are why Minnkota recommends larger gauge wire with anything over 15 feet (for the 80lb model). If you study the chart in the link I posted above, you will see you are right in that the amps play a huge role in what gauge they recommend. 25 feet for a 30lb thrust requires even heavier wiring but if you got to a 36v system (112), 8 gauge is fine.
  17. Where are the TM batteries located in the Legend? If they are up front, you probably won't have to change anything other than add a cable to attach the two batteries together. When I went from a Motorguide 46 to the 80lb terrova on my Bass Tracker, I ripped out the 8 gauge and went with 6 gauge for the simple reason of I had a 22 foot run (22 red, 22 black) of wire from where the TM was mounted to where my batteries were located. Shorter distances can get away with smaller guage of wire. Here is what MinnKota recommends https://www.minnkotamotors.com/support/compatibility/battery-selection-and-rigging For me, on top of the Terrova, I bought an MKA-47 quick release bracket (to cover existing MG holes and provide a solid base to the new TM), MKR-18 plug and receptacle, MKR-18A 6AWG adapter for the plug and MKR-19 circuit breaker. There are cheaper otpions but I wanted everything to work together so figured why not just get all of the stuff needed from one company. If your length of wire is less than 15 feet and is 8AWG (I think it will be but double check), you should be fine with the wiring you have. If wiring ends up being suitable, you would still need to check the fuse/breaker, possibly the plug and if you want, a quick release bracket (recommended as if you need any work done, the whole motor has to go in).
  18. I’ve only ever thrown 20lb test on spinning gear because it flat out works. I suppose I could step down to 15 but haven’t see. A need. I use 30-65lb on my baitcasters and find 30 still digs in. I may just swap out to 40 this year on those few reels I had 30 on. 6( is for my frogging reel.
  19. I'm going a different route here but will state the same thing as many others. The whole reason for this thread is because you are going to dog lake. Most people will suggest you get a GPS for cartography reasons while on the water. As such, if you have a smartphone, download the App and you will have all of the functions you will need if this is a one and done type of thing you need. I do not know enough about handheld GPS units nor do I spend extended time on trails in the woods so I cannot answer anything on that side but It sounds like the unit you are thinking about buying would be ideal for that part of your question. I am sure Garmin makes a unit that will do both but I honestly do not know.
  20. Well, I read through that and it was entertaining to say the least. IMO, there was nothing done wrong here at all. I may have posted something similar myself but probably would have named it something a little more different and maybe left the general area of the tournament out of the equation. My interpretation is however fairly similar to John's. There is no ill intent and provided the anglers realise that without a working live well, they are limited to only catching as many as the daily limit stipulates for that zone. Is it the best scenario for a big fish tournament? I don't think so but I also do not believe the people holding the tournament are at fault. Most tournaments state that all regs and boating safety rules need to be followed so there really isn't anything more they can do unless they change the tournament to a only allow boats with livewells.
  21. Seems like legend puts 54" units on their boats right now. I would think that you would be fine with a 60" though. I had one on my Bass Tracker and other than sticking way up in the are when I was getting super shallow, I never had a problem with it.
  22. Are you sure it’s co-pilot and not I-pilot? If I-pilot, you will not lose the foot pedal when installing. As stated, that’s only on the power drive. If it’s a co pilot, I do not believe it will be an issue either.
  23. Just as an FYI, I was offered the same warranty when I bought my 2013 Chevy. I turned it down as I put too many Kilometers on a vehicle in a year to even worry about extended waranties. Sucks for the OP and anyone else caught up in this. Hope you get this sorted out!
  24. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B00164ANLU/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1523716103&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=lawn+mower+handle&dpPl=1&dpID=41pKIRZzT4L&ref=plSrch i know Canadian Tire used to sell them too.
  25. $13.00 for the same handle on amazon and a couple of feet of aircraft cable and you are good to go!
