  1. Very sad to hear it. http://www.wellandtribune.ca/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=1166429
  2. Very sorry to hear this news! Cops did a good job. Not sure if it's related to any illness? A Report on Mental Illnesses in Canada Mental illnesses touch the lives of all Canadians, exerting a major effect on relationships, education, productivity and overall quality of life. Approximately 20% of individuals will experience a mental illness during their lifetime, and the remaining 80% will be affected by an illness in family members, friends or colleagues. ...... http://www.phac-aspc.gc.ca/publicat/miic-m...f/men_ill_e.pdf Mental Disorders in America Mental disorders are common in the United States and internationally. An estimated 26.2 percent of Americans ages 18 and older — about one in four adults — suffer from a diagnosable mental disorder in a given year.(1) When applied to the 2004 U.S. Census residential population estimate for ages 18 and older, this figure translates to 57.7 million people.(2) Even though mental disorders are widespread in the population, the main burden of illness is concentrated in a much smaller proportion — about 6 percent, or 1 in 17 — who suffer from a serious mental illness.(1) In addition, mental disorders are the leading cause of disability in the U.S. and Canada for ages 15-44.(3) Many people suffer from more than one mental disorder at a given time. Nearly half (45 percent) of those with any mental disorder meet criteria for 2 or more disorders, with severity strongly related to comorbidity.(1) http://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/publication...n-america.shtml
  3. Nice fish. Thanks for sharing.
  4. Millions of fish were commercially caught and sold each year. http://www.glfc.org/pressrel/pr080318.pdf
  5. Can I quote? "It is very unfortunate you had to have this experience, be proud, and if you are doing the right thing then don't worry about anything" "Next time look him straight in the eye and tell him "No speaky ingrish"! wink.gif" "If you let little things like that offend you, youre gonna be in for a shock someday. who cares, youre not breaking the law so just nodd your head and do your thing." "Hope you and your mom enjoyed the meal and don't take his comment personally. Was the idiot telling you this also fishing? If not then maybe he was just another animal rights nut. Keep on fishing and don't let kooks like him get you down. ( Kook, now theres a word I don't here much anymore laugh.gif )" "You didnt have to explain yourself to him." "I hope that person's comments didn't ruin your day,......" ".. and my comment about not speaking english was to give you the oppertunity to ignore this confrontational asshat.gif He was trying to ruin your trip, and it sounds like he did a fair job of it... despicable!!!" "Keep on fishing and ignore the ..........!" "Try not to get too riled up, I hope you and your mom had some tasty sunfish. (Generally, I would prefer not to eat the fish out of Rice Lake, I find them muddy tasting.)" "I suggest not wasting any more energy on a crazy guy."
  6. One walleye can be greater than 18.1''. Please check it out, about 50% of fish there are clean. Good luck. http://www.ene.gov.on.ca/envision/guide/index.htm
  7. Quote "Walleye (Sander vitreus) from the Grand River (Ontario) are recognized as genetically and physiologically distinct from other Lake Erie stocks. The low abundance of these walleye in the early 1980s triggered rehabilitation efforts that included intensive research, transfers of walleye from the Thames River (Ontario), supplemental stocking from local hatcheries, construction of a fishway, and creation of additional spawning habitat. Walleye migrating from Lake Erie are currently hindered from reaching 90% of potential riverine spawning habitat by a dam 7 km upstream. Although increased walleye catch rates were reported following construction of a fishway in 1995, recent assessment has shown that access is still severely restrained. Catch rates of young-of-the-year walleye during fall surveys have increased notably since 1999, coincident with direct transfers of mature adults over the barrier. Recent successful year classes have contributed to a population dominated by young (< 5 y) fish. Genetic analyses show that fish culture contributed between 3% and 25% to five recent year classes of Grand River walleye. Facilitating access to spawning habitat above the Dunnville dam may be the most effective way to increase the productivity of this stock, with consequent strengthening of walleye fisheries and the fish community in the eastern basin of Lake Erie." 8. Quote from another board "May 22, 2008...... I believe that there were a lot of fish that were from the lake staged in the river to feed as they had a different color to them than the river walleye......"
  9. Like Greecoachdog said, presentation is important. I can see 15 or 20 perch, big and small, look at my maggots and minnows. But they do not bite. Since hundreds, maybe thousands of people are using same bait, and most of perch were released time after time. Fish are smart and they can learn in a month or so.
  10. Thanks for the report. I like first picture.
  11. Nice big fish. Thanks for the report. Small carp and sheep head are good to eat. It's better to check "The 2007 - 2008 Guide to Eating Ontario Sport Fish " first. http://www.ene.gov.on.ca/envision/guide/
  12. Good to know that fish are biting! According to "The 2007 - 2008 Guide to Eating Ontario Sport Fish" In that area, any channel catfish less than 22'' are good to eat (up to 4lb/month). And it's better not to eat any channel catfish longer than 26". It's a lot of fun to catch big ones. They fight well. http://www.ene.gov.on.ca/envision/guide/
  13. Quote from Peter "You have another two or three days of safe ice fishing remaining as the shore line is deteriorating fast."
  14. FRESHLY CLEANED fish, free of water, placed in COLD area, will be good for about 4 or 5 days. Last a bit longer if salted. Keep them DRY all the time. It's hard to do it in summer though.
  15. I release the fish. Over the years I saw people catch hundreds of fish, around 95% of them were released. About 5% were kept. Some people think small carp taste good. Many people enjoy fighting them. Saw only one fish was left on shore dying. Its eyeball was missing, a bird must have taken it.
  16. Nice Fish. A big smile says it all!
  17. Proud of those soldiers and officers and the best luck to them all. We are with you.
  18. Try this site for Lake Nipissing. May need to register to see more detailed map. http://www.anglersatlas.com/lakes/25456/
