  1. Let me know, if/when you find out. Not a chance I'm asleep at 8am with the kids there.
  2. Wow. I've seen that with bass, panfish and pike on a fly-in but never with eyes and big ones at that not 2 juveniles.
  3. So the discussion around the mother's day dinner table turned to a cottage retail this summer. I figured it would be worthwhile to either see what was available here, or at least what others have done. 5-7 days sometime between Saturday August 22nd and Sunday August 30th. Three pairs of adults 4 (maybe 2) kids age 4-8 1, maybe 2 dogs Less then 5 hour drive from Barrie preferable. Dockage for 1, maybe 2 boats-16 foot and a Launch somewhere near by. Swimming area for the kids. Personally I'd really like some solid fishing for some combination of walleye/pike/musky/lakers, but at least some bass and panfish for the kids will do. It's not about me, it's not about me. It is not about me. Budget is somewhat flexible (Yay for grandparents) although hot and cold running maids is likely too posh for us and 3 of the women and 1 of the men (No, it wasn't me) said they're not using a thunder box or outhouse. I'm a big fan of, and know, Nipissing but Temagami would also be high on my list... even though it's not about me.
  4. They all get prettier at closing time. Nice job. I went looking for 'em this spring and never even got a sniff, guess I need a case or two.
  5. Nice of the retailer and charity to put on a check-out person to ask you as well. Like putting up with us grumpy customers isn't joy enough.
  6. Since I've set it up I haven't had to do it again so I can't say for sure. But I think it was in the chart set-up and then select your area I think it is something like southern Ontario for what you need. Giant pain compared to humminbird.
  7. I always use leader material. I figure the mix they use to make mainline fluoro more manageable on the spool isn't what I need for a leader. I don't go through enough to worry about the cost difference. I use anything from 6lb to 12lb (mostly 10lb) test for jigging but often for casting or trolling cranks I don't bother with any leader. I'm using the leader more for stealth rather then pike bite-offs.
  8. Ya when I switched lowrance the mapping was a pain compared to HB. I had to use the menu and select the area I was in to get the lake depth details.
  9. A trip north wouldn't be a bad thing.
  10. I think that's why for the most part it is now one day's possession versus the old 2 days possession that was the norm not that long ago. Now (for the most part) if you have 1 fish over the daily limit they don't have worry about someone claiming some of the fish are from the previous day.
  11. Wow! It's been a long time since I've seen the smaller ones with the double treble hooks. His is an X4 size, likely the larger ones would do. I've found some other trebles that might work as well. I'll report back after our next outing.
  12. Thanks I'll take a look at the bucket. I appreciate that Wayne.
  13. Sometimes we need reminders that rivers are living, breathing things.
  14. My son found a flatfish with the double treble hook hanger. The hanger was broken and when I put a single treble on it didn't run correctly. I did a web search and didn't find any place to buy them and figured someone here might know where to get some. Seems silly but when you're 6 and find a lure it's kind of a big deal.
  15. Ya except for the thing with the left hand it is a little startling how much he looks like me. I'd really like to talk to whom ever put mother's day during spring fishin'.
  16. So I made a video. Beautiful day in the sun, in the boat, on the water but I'm done with pan fish. Surface temps were as high as 13 Celsius. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPyZJBsvOKE&feature=youtu.be Besides some initial instructions I've been trying to let him do it on his own. I didn't even say anything about the jazz hands finish. Last night when I uploaded the video to the computer though Ryan saw it and said "What am I doing with my hand?" So some refinement might be coming. Driving the boat: Had a musky and a pike follow a 2 inch minnow bait in one back bay. Ryan had a "big" bass on his tiny tube jig until it wrapped in the wood. Some catfish, turtles, otter and a pair of mink.
  17. Unless it's salt water, if it's zero, it's frozen.
  18. I've never seen an 'eye anywhere near that size on that lake.
  19. I was a bit sceptical as well but the thermometer and the sonar matched up.
  20. I have both. I find the humminbird easier to use for what I want to do. If you can go to a store and talk to someone who isn't pushing one or the other then discuss how you are going to use it. Lots features are nice but if half of them aren't going to be used you sometimes have to navigate past them to get to the ones you need. The other big factor for me would be compatibility with the trolling motor.
  21. Where would we be if the great, as well as the not so great, innovators said: "Forget it, it'll never work". Sure most of these concepts end up going no where but you can't hit a home run if you don't swing for the fences.
