Fishfinder reviews/opinions wanted Lowrance or Hummingbird?
kickingfrog replied to Fish4Eyes's topic in General Discussion
I have both. I find the humminbird easier to use for what I want to do. If you can go to a store and talk to someone who isn't pushing one or the other then discuss how you are going to use it. Lots features are nice but if half of them aren't going to be used you sometimes have to navigate past them to get to the ones you need. The other big factor for me would be compatibility with the trolling motor. -
New outboard propulsion system being looked at

Where would we be if the great, as well as the not so great, innovators said: "Forget it, it'll never work". Sure most of these concepts end up going no where but you can't hit a home run if you don't swing for the fences. -
Might come with "top-ups". http://www.nugget.ca/2015/04/27/huts-for-sale CALLANDER-Abandoned ice fishing huts are now up for sale to the highest bidder. And there are three up for grabs this year. The Municipality of Callander is now accepting sealed bids for purchase of any of the three ice shacks until May 5 at noon. Ray Marshall, public works manager and engineer for Callander said this is the second year unclaimed ice huts have been sold and profits go back to the municipality. He said the municipality issues reminders to hut owners that they have a certain period of time to claim their ice shacks and after the notice period has ended they become municipal property. “We sell them off via a silent auction. Last year we sold five huts and one went for $300. We had another one which was left with a sizable amount of gear inside to include an ice auger and top-ups,” Marshall said Monday. “We're receiving a lot of calls from interested people and businesses in the ice fishing industry this year.” Marshall said the quality of huts varies, however last year all five went to bidders regardless of their condition. This year's lot looks pretty good. Some of the huts have furniture and equipment still inside and in good condition. The municipality requires successful bidders to pay the cost of their purchase in full prior to retrieval. Purchased ice huts have to be removed by May 14 at 3:30 p.m. [email protected]

He's been a champ. He's keen for pike and walleye this year. Hope to get some "wopper" pike as he calls them.

Back bays were 8-9 degrees at the surface and open water was 7-8 degrees on Sunday where we were. Brrrrr, I must be getting older cause it felt like liquid nitrogen when I stepped in. We didn't see any fish in the shallows yet either.

Glad it see your father and son day worked out better then others.

... Turned out to be just about that. On water shakedown day. Son and brother came with me. In the past with my son I never told him we were going fishing before we left because it would have been incessant questions. This time I told him yesterday. I half expected to see him sitting in the boat in the driveway this morning when I woke up. Hoped for some pan fish but they were few and far between. Lots of talk about his future fishing endeavours and wanting to become a zoo keeper when he grows up. Not enough fishing after nearly 7 hours on the boat. One last cast:

Nice. I am more of an A man then a T.

Come on. One photo and no motor shot.

There was a point where I thought to myself that I should have started to take pictures in case there was some spare parts left over.

Don't know if everyone but me already knows this or not but figured I'd put it out there. At some point during the last half of the year my trolling motor would sometimes lose power as I increased the rpms with the footpeddle. It was only near the top end and I hardly ever used it that high and I'd forget about it until it would happen again. Flash-forward to this spring and prep time for the boat. I remembered the loss of power and started taking things apart. The foot peddle has a slider that is the contact. It was a little gummed up and had a little too much "play" in it. Cleaned up the contacts and tightened up the screws and she works right through all the settings again.

I hate watching pitchers hit (or bunt over a runner on first with 1 out) but at least in the National league they do have to answer for their actions.

What about a lizard type plastic bait?

At and below are very different things. Are thermometers used or is it with sonar?

Your secchi disk or mine?

Oxygen yes but the temp below the thermocline is well below their preferred temp. Lots of lakes don't develop a thermocline and lakes with springs are also a factor. Yes, the temps at the bottom are 4ish degree cold but the thermocline it a distinct relatively narrow band where the temps change quickly and prevents mixing of the water.
-
He has. Twice this season they've thrown behind his head and twice in the same at bat he's hit a home run. His pitchers are the ones that need to keep the things inline.
-
Maybe, just maybe if you're the Orioles you don't throw the ball at/behind Bautista anymore.

During the summer there would zero bass below the thermocline in this part of the province. The temperatures would be well below their preferred range. That doesn't mean smallmouth aren't deep, or won't go deep, but not below an established thermocline. There are numerous factors at play for what is stocked and where (some of which is political). Brook trout are harder, more expensive and are the most sensitive to environmental factors. Rainbows (of the "trouts") are the easiest/cheapest. Rainbows and smallmouth bass also are closer when is comes to their preferred water temps and both don't "need" quite the same water quality as brookies. And if we're talking about spawning (not a factor for some stocked fish) brookies, which are a char not a trout, spawn in the fall same as the lake trout char. So while they might use similar areas for spawning they do happen at different times of the year. Rainbows are a salmon and spawn in the spring in most cases
-
Have be careful of conclusions. Yes the brookies along hwy 60 are few and far between and bass are present but is that due to the bass or fishing presure, man made shoreline changes and water quality? Much of that area was logged and that can lead to heavy silt on spawning areas. For much of the year bass and brookies don't inhabit the same parts of the lake or water column.

Walleye In-Siders from over 20 years ago

Older... They were in Latin. -
Bigger concerns for brookies is water quality and temp. Lots of lakes in the central part of the province have both.

Back in the day when I was starting out with a baitcaster I used a line that was oval shaped (magnum brand? 7/20 or 14/40). It was thick stuff and I'd never use it now but it was easier to learn with I believe.

There usually is a little knob on the same side as the reel. It adjusts the free spool. That's how easily the spool spins when the thumb bar is pressed. The tension should be set so the lure you are using slowly drops to the water and then the spool doesn't over run. From there it's a matter of practice. Some baitcasters also have another adjustment on the none reel side under the side plate that also helps with cast control. There should be videos on line to help as well.

The only time the Corel/Palliadium,/scotiabank/ctc arena is louder is when the Leafs beat the sens.
