  1. We were on Mykonos, Paros and Santorini. The octopus was caught in the town of Rafina on the mainland. The more scenic shots were from Mykonos and Paros.
  2. Just got back from a vacation in Greece. Lots of amazing sites. I didn't fish, but being on the islands there where some people fishing. It seamed to be only men (no kids or woman that I saw). Almost all used very long poles with no reels and a float with some sort of mash for bait. One guy had a fishing pole made of four, 4 foot sections of black PVC pipe each one slightly smaller then the previous one. It was a home made telescoping rod. While there were lots of people fishing and I saw lots of fish in the water, I only saw one person catch a fish. Tackle for sale in the harbour. Pre-spooled and ready to go. I was tempted but we were not on a fishing trip and I didn't know what (if any) regs there were. Tackle department in the local market right between the olive oil and the wine Lots of small fish in the harbour eating the fish guts from the cleaned fish from the fishermen This was the only guy I saw catching a fish. He caught a small fish that looked a bit like a perch, you can't see the fish because this octopus tried to steel it from him, while the fishermen was happy to have the octopus he did not want to touch it at all. There are a few fish photos I took while snorkeling but they are on a water proof film camera. I'll post a few scenic photos about our trip as well in a separate thread. Don't tell my wife, but these photos took priority over the 1200 photos I while we were gone.
  3. Agreed, it's not looking good for Colorado, but I've always believed in the theory that a 7 game series doesn't get "interesting" until a team losses at home. As a neutral observer I'd just like the games to be close and competitive. Just role those game 5's for the third round if the Avs don't ring at least one up at home.
  4. I feel for you. On the bright side... no bugs... for now. Good thing you're not travelling in it. Throw a log on the fire and put the kettle on.
  5. My first one, still very dark (both the fish and the light), that's my blood btw: One of my brother's from later in the morning: Another one of my brother's: I got get my brother a digital camera. He landed 5 or 6 all on roe. I landed 2, both on plugs. We seemed to do better than most, but maybe that's just me. Headed home by 8:30am.
  6. Went out today to cast the river mouth, just to make sure the new stuff worked. A few steelhead were being caught, I caught a sucker, a walleye and a smallmouth bass (no photos) but no rainbows. I've never seen or caught walleye or smallmouth in that spot before, but it's not too far of a stretch I guess? Took the long way home to look at the spot we'll be starting at tomorrow. Sure enough there were fish there. How'd I do with the backgrounds???
  7. I'll put my foot in my mouth here I"m sure (I'm kind of used to the taste anyway). But is it possible that the fish were mating? The "harassing" could just be a matter of perspective. Sounds like one female and three males.
  8. Wait until you see the empty seats. Hockey town my butt. Play-off games are great. Bring a rod and fish the river, it's right there.
  9. Thanks Guys. I'm doing the trout opener with my brother, long standing tradition of course , then my last pick-up hockey game until fall, then off to the airport and the Greek Islands. The 10 hour flight should allow me to catch-up on my sleep. If the flight is less than 10 hours, then a lack of sleep won't really be a big deal.
  10. Round two starts Thursday. What the heck em I going to do tomorrow night???
  11. It's not as much of an inside secret anymore, but craft stores are a good place to get beads of just about every colour. Usually way cheaper too.
  12. Long live the pink worm. Great Stuff.
  13. I've only tied my snells where you need to have both ends, but I've now seen the method you described. Now I've got to practise it.
  14. Great offer, I think Mark has even caught a fish or two on these baits. Next will be sponsor deals, big boats and big cheques.
  15. The first harness I used had a silver blade and red beads (I guess that's why I always start there). It was about 8 inches long and was made with heavy wire, not mono, and had three big hooks. I did catch a lot of fish on it though. I make my own now as well in part because it's not that hard and I can control the line, hooks and bead pattern. What about storing them? I've gone from a plastic tube that you wrap them around to little zip-top bags and back again to the plastic tube. I'm not happy with either but I don't know what's better.
  16. This came up on another thread, but I thought I'd post it on it's own. My and my dad's River Runts are all gone, but I think there still is a Bullfrog Crazy Crawler of my dad's that is still in my mom's basement. I think I hear Bett Middler singing. http://www.tacklecollecting.com/toc.htm Did you know they had a Fluorescent Green Coach Dog pattern in the 70's?
  17. Well how about that. What I called a River Runt the Heddon site has as a River Runt Spook. And there is a strawberry pattern. As well as a coach dog and a Fluorescent Green Coach Dog from the 70's. Neat site. http://www.tacklecollecting.com/laterriverruntcolors.htm
  18. As a kid I'd raid my Dad's tackle box. The two lures I'd go for first... a big green/yellow crazy crawler and a perch pattern river runt. I don't think the river runt is made any more. I think it Heddon made them. I'll have to look that up.
  19. Strawberry spooks??? Is this a colour/ pattern of a Zara spook? Or something totally different?
  20. That it is a very nice fish. How about this one: http://www.lakediefenbakertourism.com/files/17.pdf
  21. Kind of ironic that when Glen and I were out with you late October/ early November is was mid 20's as well. Hey Bill, I'm glad to see I'm not the only jinks in Wayne's boat. Maybe I'll get a second chance.
  22. Found this for last years event: http://www.teachakidtofish.com/ The date was June 24th. Bass was open on Simcoe. If it is June 15th bass won't be open (4th Saturday in June). Tim Horton's and the Rotary club were the title sponsors. FYI Family fishing weekends are: July 4-6 2008, February 14-16 2009, July 10-12 2009. This doesn't clear anything up I realize, but I'll keep my eyes and ears open.
